What I don’t really get with our recruitment team is what they actually do day to day. Surely the job isn’t just about building the first team, it’s also about looking after the future of the club by bringing in talent for the U21s and U18s, with the aim of some of those lads eventually pushing through into the first team.
But when you look at the level of opposition our U21s are regularly losing to, Bolton, Fleetwood, Harrogate, Huddersfield and others, it doesn’t exactly fill you with confidence. I’m not saying every youngster has to be a future star, but there should be some kind of clear pathway and standard there.
For me, recruitment has to be judged on more than just who comes into the senior squad. If the academy and development sides aren’t being strengthened properly as well, then we’re missing a big part of what recruitment should be about.

We have a good team as it is, when everyone is fit our starting 11 is good and we have some good options off the bench. Would we have liked more yes, maybe a LB, LW and CM, but the LB and LW would have been backups and the CM we can still get there are free agents available but if Lampard thinks we have enough then I believe it
