Transfer Rumour Summer Transfer Window 2026 (17 Viewers)

Defenders are a given
Pinnock, a LB and better cover for LW are the most important

Grimes will be ok, he was badly let down by our ip and oop shapes against Arsenal who are not the team to 4-4-2 press. Manny a better and more experience PL and even Champions League players have struggled badly against this Arsenal team.

Honestly don't think CM is optional anymore from what I've seen. Agree with others, we need top level experience in there. Pinnock will get done. LB, CM, LW or we are short. Oh, and sell some fucking players that aren't good enough.

You'd think the guys must see that, what Yirenkyi and Rudoni would get from playing with an experienced head. We saw it with Grimes, a vitally important player in our promotion team. You're basically just looking to upgrade him.

Recruitment: unquestionably a step up from last season, and yet left feeling slightly underwhelmed.

Partly because the new team have yet to gel and missing the speed and control in transition from defence to midfield - expecting even more long balls in second halves. Partly because the gap between Championship and Prem really is big.

Just wish we had that statement signing for the money spent, even if it meant, a smaller less flexible squad.

One defeat and the SBA has moved from “ I hope we give a lot of the players a chance to prove themselves in the Premier league” to “get rid of them all we need new proven players “ 🤔
Not really, my position was always the same. Felt Rudoni, EMC, MvE and Rushworth if you count him were Prem starters waiting to happen, Bobby Thomas at an absolute push. The rest of what you'd consider a starting 11 needed improving. Other players absolutely can get a chance, but in a squad capacity.

I hope we are working towards this.

Agree about selling some players, injuries have also clogged up the system. Not sure we can be judging much else for a few games. Fans just whipping themselves into a frenzy after one league game away at the champions is impressive even for SBT

We knew we were in a relegation battle, we’ve spent a load of cash, more than many inc me expected and still a couple to come, Amenda looks a great signing and it was only 3 weeks ago when the fanbase would’ve given their right arm to sign Yirenkyi. big T looks a handful and at £9m could be a shrewd signing

Way too early to judge this team

Currently only 5 out of 9 players signed weren’t playing Championship football last season. Rest of the squad is a championship team.

We really need to add more experience of players currently in their prime in top flight euro league football.

it’s missing that experience in the middle tying it all together. all the raw ingredients but needs someone with top level nous.

saying that i think im flogging a dead horse, we won’t get one in

Injuries not helping mind. Might struggle to shift Woolf if injured and sounds like Wright getting injured stopped us moving Simms on. Good few million gone from the kitty by not being able to do any of that.

Then possibly you need to be cashing in on Asante and Eccles.

True. We seem reluctant to be ruthless for some reason.
They’re players I’d both like if relegated, but I’d prefer not to be relegated in the first place and we’re less likely to do so by upgrading on both.

Maybe, maybe not. Against some teams we might be better having more youth and athleticism in there. We don’t know. Either way we’re in a relegation battle

If we’re judging on one game this season then that experienced head that everyone usually points to, Xhaka, lost against a newly promoted team at the weekend. Does that make him not good enough, of course not

What I do know is some are going to suck any enjoyment out of what will be a tough season by looking elsewhere and wanting the world rather than supporting the lads we’ve got and in particular some of the most exciting young players we’ve signed in our recent history

oh come on people will support the lads we have. it’s not lack of being a fan to suggest we need experience in the middle

It might seem to some like an over reaction to one game but I think many of us knew deep down the majory of the team are not going to be able to step up. I have always thought that Rushworth, MVE, EMC and Rudoni at most are at the level. The rest would have to be upgraded in time.

Its unfair to judge against Arsenal specifically, but watching all the teams last weekend was an eye opener and you can see how teams are going to hurt us. We simply wont get the time on the ball for Grimes to be effective and we dont (yet) have anything like the speed on transition that even the poorer prem teams have. More than likely most games will feel like that Leeds game two years ago.

That said, you can see they are trying bring in more players with pace and physicality - and last night will have confirmed for FL that certain players shouldnt be anywhere near a PL squad.

King has spent a lot more than I thought he would, and I think we need to realise its going to take more than one window to rebuild the whole team, which probably means going down and going again like Ipswich have done. FL got a team that should have finished 4-6th to win the title, the gap is even bigger than we imagine.

Despite all that, i do genuinely think we have a hell of a chance but need 2-3 more new faces in this week

I’m not saying it’s being a lack of a fan to say that, I’m saying some will end not enjoying it because it will be ‘wish we had him’ rather than trying to enjoy what we’re trying to build here. Each to their own though

i’d say they aren’t mutually exclusive

Understand the worries about 'we need this, we need that' for our squad - especially after last night.

I think we will just get a new LB (permanent) and a left sided attacker, perhaps on loan, that's it (as well as Pinnock obvs)

Provided we get those 2 signings right, I think we are in with a decent chance of staying up.

I think Rudoni will score key goals for us and that Caleb will take a couple of months to settle, then be awesome for us. Think Torp will play a more significant role in our survival than many expect too.

Don’t disagree but can’t see it happening unless we ship 1 out and bring in Gomes possibly?

Fair play to Torp he's playing his way into that squad

I can't see us signing another LW unless the right loan deal comes along. The difference EMC made yesterday was huge, but we've got other positions that are more urgent as its not about having no cover, it's not having a good enough starter!

Cameo role from Cherif last night, he's played left wing and no idea what he might be able to offer in that role if needed. We know Wright has played there too, out for another few months but with an international break to come and we've now got 4 centre forwards.

Neither ideal compared to having a specialist but the well must be running dry soon and I'd rather prioritise positions that we can't make work in our starting 11 than as back ups where there may be a workable Plan B through existing players.

Its why I hope KKH gets a chance to see if he can step up once fit, having versatile players has real value when your on a budget and don't have £100m back up players for every position like Arsenal!

He got injured soon after joining and missed a few games and then went off injured at Charlton away and 105 minutes in the remainder of the season.
Certainly not a sick note then, more bad luck. He didn’t miss a game for Preston the season before when he won every award they had going.

Honestly i'd also like to see us try our luck with a young CB from one of the lesser leagues in the £4-5 million bracket, someone we can develop. 100% would rather do that than see Lati or Kitching touch a pitch in the Prem, but feel like that might be asking too much.

Big risk with Yirenkyi is that he’s had no summer break which isn’t great for a young player. We are going to have to earmark a portion of the season where he’s not selected anyway and I’m more than a little concerned that the remaining options ain’t exactly strong.

Again, think we need to give him time. He played out of position tonight, and looks like he still needs to build fitness a bit.
He's needed to build fitness for years and hasn't done it. Maybe Lampard has some magic spray that will get him off the booze and poor diet but age is catching up with his poor routine already.
