He wants us.

✅ He wants us / openly admits he loves it here
✅ He knows without doubt he will be no1
✅ Brighton clearly shopping around for a GK
✅ Brighton set to make major profit on him regardless, fitting their model
✅ DK and FL value "keeping the band together"
✅ DK wants value for money - lad is only 24 and has a very high ceiling
✅ DK loves to negotiate and will feel confident in getting a decent deal (can see him pushing for "if we survive relegation" clause to make it even more attractive to Brighton)

Would that be permitted, as we have to play them and it would create a conflict of interest?

Im not suggesting that Brighton would throw games, my point is about Premier League rules.

Good question, and I'm honestly not sure.

My assumption would be this would still be fine, but I'm further away from the ins and outs of football contracts than Leicester City are away from financial security, so can't call myself an authority here.

The club want him, he wants to stay …. It’s now about the money ( fee and package ) … it could get too rich for us, we all hope not.
We don't know that he wants to stay. He's made positive comments about his time here and hinted he would be open to staying but that doesn't mean he isn't going to look at other offers and he won't be short of options.

With Rushworth I can see an option for Brighton to buy back being a potential if we do get him. Few clubs throwing that in now, so wouldn’t be surprised.

Really good spot and last day of the season, we need a win and they are playing for nothing, it creates a perceived conflict of interest at least. Would a way around it be if he makes 40 premier league appearances for us then it triggers an extra payment? It's in effect the same clause as he would only hit that number early in season two if we stayed up.

Is PL experience as important for a GK?

being simplistic but a shot is a shot right?

Agree with this. I suppose every keeper has to get premier league experience by playing there for the first time at some point. He looks like he could handle whatever is thrown at him. Might be a few mistakes at the start but as long as we back him regardless, he should go on to play there for his career.

You’re not up against an opposition player as much really right? If you’re a winger up against faster and stronger fullbacks that’s a much bigger difference. Maybe you’re against harder shots or players who can beat you from positions others couldn’t but the raw physical differences don’t matter so much.

Have you not seen the issues defending set pieces this year?

I'd imagine it is. League is quicker, stronger and the experience is different. Rushworth hasn't really played against sides that put him under pressure every game. Swansea were decent with him, as are we.

He's going to have less time when he tries to pass from the back, its going to be a new speed for him to get upto scratch.

no conflict of interest, these clauses are built in all the time based on team success. Villa had one with Cameron Archer when he was at Sheff Utd, they had to buy him back on relegation.

Cant see Doug agreeing to that
Depends on buy back value…. Let’s say it was an increase of £10m I think it’s a goer.

Think buy back based on relegation would be difficult to swallow but again you want something sometimes you have to bend a little. Either way I’d just like straight buy option and none of what I’ve said above 😂

Oh there’s definitely differences but if you were to rank positions I’d put GK at the bottom of the list as he’s not physically competing like outfield players are.

5 big signings, and a couple of highly regarded younger players (CM and a winger) to develop.

1) Carl Rushworth or a Top Keeper.
2) Centre Back
3) LB
4) AM / No.10
5) CF

Assuming Bassette, Wilson, Allen & Bidwell will be off. Rodrigues & Brau possibly too unless they get a 1 year loan deal

One of our 4 CBs will go (Woolf most likely) and I wouldn't be surpirsed to see one of BTA, Simms or Wright to move on, to make room for the new CF signing.

Sakamoto, EMC, Markelo & a young promising new winger to compete for the wide positions.

Players have the power. If he tells Brighton he definitely wants to leave they aren't going to keep him. It will just be about the price which they are trying to ramp up by saying how much of a star he will be going forward.

They might rate him but clearly not that much as they have loaned him out 6 seasons in a row while keeping journeyman Jason Steel as their backup. He has never played a first team game for Brighton since they signed him. It looks like they think he is one they don't think of as a first team player but can be trained on and sold for profit.

I think they'd have prefered a decent keeper that could stop a shot thou tbf.
Highest goals conceded in the league
Keeper would help I’ve got no doubt, yet team has 10 other plays to get past before. Can’t look at it in isolation completely, team close down etc etc there’s lack of shots. We’ve been bailed out by Rushworth plenty of times which I’m glad of, yet doesn’t always translate that way
