They obviously dont. And you're not going to get profits unless they are playing champions league. His value may go up, but it's not guaranteed and £20m is excessively high for a keeper with no PL experience, going to to a newly promoted team.

It wouldn't be £20 million upfront though would it. Like all deals it would be structured based on various metrics.

If he’s available for £20m and we don’t pay it somebody else will

And that's fine. We will have a view on what we are willing to pay, it thay is under £20m but Brighton wants £20m then he will go to someone else.

Only 12 clubs had a net spend of over £50m last summer. Wages need to be paid on top, previous losses covered £20m in the last financial year, probably the same this season, ground updates etc etc. I just can't see it being a lot more. I think we all want financial security for the club in the future...

crucially how many of the other 8 teams were newly promoted? We'll spend more than 50m - or we'll end up with single figure ppoints

I think most people are talking about total spend not net. And our sales won’t be more than 20m tops.

We're a selling club at the end of the day always have been but I don't think Bidwell and Jamie Allen will make much of a dent. They might contemplate selling a Haji or a Rudi to reinvest if we got substantial offers. Cash for players has to come from somewhere.

Our signings this window are not about making a profit but staying up. We most probably won't make money on Onyeka.

I can see us paying between 12m and 15m for Rushworth if we sign him. We have a budget that has to stretch a long way. Average price of around 10m. Pay more for the GK and striker. Both very important.

Bidwell and Allen will go on frees… No way we sell Rudi. Haji if he wants to, because of the contract. More talking about the squad players knocking around that could fetch fees around 4-5m that we could raise some money from.

Should be plenty of funds to spend Promotion and Relegation along is worth £300M. £180-£200M for promotion.

I'm sure they wouldn't want to sell Rudi. We'll need the squad players, probably the vast majority of them. Simms will likely leave for playing time if he has any ambition. I've said it before but we need to strengthen the spine, Keeper, CB, Onyeka and a Striker or two with a starting left back in the mix. I think that will be the priority. I think if we take the £8m for Onyeka as a marker that's the sort of ball park fee we'll be wanting to pay for players (more for a striker perhaps.) Anything above would need a seperate business case.

Onyeka cost £7-8m and was an upper championship player considering those were the teams in for him. And less than that is solid Championship money, Sheaf was £6m for example. PL players will cost £10m minimum really unless you’re finding a free or a bargain.

Here’s some of the recent promoted clubs transfers not a huge amount below €10m

Agree with you but don't think we can compare with parachute sides who've bounced back up a few times in recent years. I imagine we'll be signing 3/4 players for over €20m each plus a couple of frees/cheaper punts from abroad.

If we're looking to sign players with Premier League experience who aren't on insane wages you have to be looking at Everton, Brentford, Bournemouth and Wolves. Then the newly promoted teams. It's why guys like Mykolenko and Webster from Brighton are much more likelier than James Maddison or John fucking Stones.

I’m thinking 1-2 around £20m, 4-5 around £10m and the rest loans and frees for 8-10 overall. Obviously some will be £6-9m and some 11-15m but averaging out around that. I’d be very surprised if our high watermark was a signing made in the championship like Onyeka or Wright.

Jimmy Hill paid a world record fee for Bill Glazier when we were in the second tier, that worked out ok didn't it.

All good managers know you have to have a good spine in your team to be successful.

Goalkeeper, Centre half, Center forward.

Don’t just focus on transfer fees though, wages and contract length are also important and arguably even more difficult to manage effectively. However you look at it, finding players aligned with a structure that rewards success and avoids bankrupting the club if failing is the primary objective, King rightly won’t gamble the long term financial stability of the club on one season and players agents often create barriers to that type of deal structure pushing alternatives with more money up front for them to take their cut of.
