Joint statement on CCFC announcement
Joint statement from Cllr George Duggins, Leader of Coventry City Council and Cllr Gary Ridley, Leader of the Opposition Conservative Group, Coventry City Council:
“We share the bitter disappointment of Coventry City fans with today’s announcement by the football club.
“The Council like everyone was hopeful that April’s Supreme Court judgment could lead to a license extension.
“While Coventry City Council has not been party to the negotiations, we understand the endless litigation in its various forms by the football club’s owners remained the barrier for a deal to be agreed.
“It is extremely disappointing that after six years of legal action – that has been tested numerous times in the courts and has been comprehensively dismissed every time – cannot now be dropped to secure the club’s future.
“We urge the football club’s owners to address this situation promptly to ensure the return of the football club to the city at the earliest possible date.”

Sorry to see what’s going on with Coventry at the moment, I’ve always had a soft spot for Coventry, just a club I’ve always wanted to see back in the prem or at least championship. When I first starting watching football as a kid in the 90s seeing Coventry in the premier league, class players like McAllister, Breen, Hadji, Robbie Keane, Peter Ndlovu (Maybe not class but a decent player, very exciting to watch, who we ended up signing from you) - but my overall favourite Coventry player to watch was Huckerby, always found him to be a bit of an under rated player in football imo he was a real top quality player.
I’ll be watching highlights from you’re games next season will be especially interesting to see the ones with you playing at St Andrews, I’m hoping we can both have good seasons, I hope you all come down and feel welcome at St. Andrews, all the best for the season :emoji_thumbsup:

I read that according to Cardiff University, when Swansea were promoted to the Premier League, in the first season it was worth £60m or so to the local economy...I Agee Otis. We will never know the truth. You are right. However it’s very strange that a big city/one city club like Coventry with a far bigger following than Wasps have been totally disregarded by the council. Yes Sisu have made many mistakes. Just can’t help feeling that our council have fu***ed us over. A successful ccfc would bring far more income to our city.

But then many don't drive and Sundays could be a problem for many, if indeed it was to be Sundays.For many supporters going to St Andrew's will make little difference in time or distance. Just as quick for those like me living in the Stratford area... M40, M42, A45. About 40 minutes drive, the same as going to the Ricoh. On the train from Warick or Stratford, 20 mins to 40 mins. St Andrew's offers many possibilities in the short term.
If as people say we only have 3/4000 fans would that be any different to Walsall playing on the same day as villa. Hoping for Saturdays but Sundays are ok and Otis might be able to go on a sunday.Unfortunately I think it’s more likely to be sunday. I doubt WMP are going to want us and Villa knocking around Birmingham on the same day. Villa being back in the Orem means they might play a lot of Sunday/Monday/Friday games though.
