I think it would be a decent appointment, got Hull promoted and then kept them in the PL which was a brilliant achievement. At Preston he didnt do so well but i dont think it was all his fault as he joined half way through the season when they were in the bottom 3 and eventually got relegated. Phil Brown is certainly one of the better names being touted for the job. My top 3 would be Wise, Money and then Brown.

I think Phil Brown is a great candidate. Would he let the likes of McSheffrey and Baker play like girls? Erm nope!

Agreed. Yes he loves himself a bit too much but I think he is still a good manager.

Who do you all expect Mourinho. I keep saying this we are a lowly third division club and our time in the Prem. is a distant memory. Just think of this, any fan aged 22 or younger don't remember us in the Premiership and only remember us as a struggling championship club.. As for Phil Brown you have to say as it is. Did very well at Hull, not so well at Preston, you pays your money and take your choice. I'll just add all this breaking news regards Brown being interviewed just sums up what a bunch of amatuers Fisher and Waggott are allowing this to leak out....unless it is a ploy to gauge fans reaction !!

I'm 22 and remember the Premiership days?

Also, I cannot imagine Fisher and Waggott on the phone to SSN spilling the beans. Perhaps SSN found out in a similar way to how we did that interviews were to take place this week and had a spotter? The headline did say "Sky Sources: Phil Brown.....", the clue was in the headline.

I think fans do expect Mourinho. The sooner reality sets in the better. League 1 club, no transfer funds, must work with current back room staff, use another Managers squad until at least January, the list goes on. I am actually surprised there are people out there that apply, let alone have somebody with a bit about them!

You see it all the time in football.....Dowie at Palace, holloway at Blackpool, lambert had done fook all before he took over at Norwich.

But there's the problem - he hasn't done fook all, he's already had massive success and has hit the usual downward spiral. Much like Dowie and Boothroyd (both had taken unfancied clubs up to the premiership) - is there any example of such a manager who has been sacked (let alone twice) but then later bounced back and become successful again elsewhere?

Goes to show how fickle supporters are. Had we appointed Brendan Rodgers after Reading sacked him you'd all have slated him on here.

We don't need a guy who has recently been a huge success, we need someone who fits.

He fits.

Yes, many examples. Because, you see, it's not as simple as "he's good, he's bad". I think 80% of how a Manager gets on is down to the resources provided by the club, and the remainder is how his personality and backroom staff suit that group of players.

There are very few great Managers in this world. AF would deffinately be one of them so too AV although going through a lean patch right now. As someone has already said it is a case of being in the right place at the right time with most of them. John Sillitt would be classed as one of our best yet what did he do after leaving??

Read the whole post mate. Don't just copy and paste two lines and twist it to suit!
I also said there's a gamble in all appointments.

BBC: "Brown would be available to move to the Ricoh Arena immediately, without the need for the Sky Blues to pay compensation to take him out of a contract with another club."

But I wanted a tactically astute manager with the ability to give players a bollocking, not somebody that resembles a spray tanned turd!

Ian Holloway Didn't do wel at Leicester, took them down and then got sacked.
Next job at Blackpool was successful.

Well he certainly bollocks players. He got and kept Hull up so must be decent tactically - as his players weren't the best at all.

What is this obsession on having the new manager be some kind of tyrant? Do people honestly look at the team and think all they need is the bejesus scared out of them and suddenly they'll be goal machines?

Because they have more talent than the opposition - just seemingly can't be arsed.

That's the plan

As long as they shout a load of mumbo jumbo and wag the finger whilst the players don't listen then we're onto a winner

So far we've failed to react to opposition changes and let them back into games, which I don't see as really being down to not caring or coasting. I'd rather a new manager be able to adapt his team over bursting blood vessels shouting at Hussey (plus we've got Joe Murphy for that). If he can do both great, but I'd rather have a tactician than a presence.

Yep we need them to be as good tactically as possible. I just want them to also be a hard nut as watching Baker and McSheffrey only play well on poignant occasions makes me seeth.

I know nothing about him. I'm not about to filter through his wiki and state meaningless stats or percentages.

I have read this thread front to back. Mixed messages across the board. Some fume that he hasn't 'done' anything, and in the same breath want someone who is on the way up, not down. Surely if you've 'done' something, we are not the next natural progression.

I personally don't care about attractive football. If we win, be it ugly, ill be happy. Football aside, we need a man manager, who can get the the best out of what I believe, a promotable team. They need to instill some belief. Wins will bring the fans, passy passy passy goal kicks will not.

As someone said, it doesn't matter where the manager came from, its where they take us that counts. And how we get there, I don't care.

His win loss at hull is partly to blame for the premier league..his record at Preston is partly down to them being utterly terrible when he joined anyway..I'd be happy with brown..he got hull to the premier league but he's not good enough for city lol

I'd wager the "leak" came from Brown himself, or someone close to him (his agent maybe?)
Fisher said Shaw would be on the list, Money probably still knows people in Coventry so that name could have leaked from quite a few places, but I get the sense with Brown that he'd try to get some kind of momentum going in the press in the hope it would aid his application.
