I was joking, although it would also be a proper Cov set of results.
I fancy us to beat both

I can see this game being decided by close offside calls/non calls. We have been excellent at the back with our offside line and poor up front. Southampton are the opposite. Should make for some drama at both ends.

Most of us care deeply about our club. Of course we all want promotion, even more than when we lost out to Luton as we're better prepared in most ways now.

But there's worrying and then there's looking at the facts. 25 games to go and other than Middlesbrough the other sides have a mountain to climb just to have a chance of getting near us. Ipswich have to average 0.52 more points than us per remaining game and Southampton have to average 0.68 points more than us per remaining game just to catch up with us on points. Then we also have the better GD. Win 2 lose 1 is 2 ppg. Ipswich would have to average 2.52 ppg and Southampton 2.68 ppg. We've been flying and are well below these targets.

If a side comes out of the pack and gets within 5 points of us and Middlesborough continue to keep within touching distance I might join in with twitchy arse moments. But until then I'm just going to enjoy the season. Our recent form has been our worst so far this season yet we're still at the top of the form table and above Ipswich and Southampton who I'm supposed to be worried about.

Adam Herczeg is the ref on Saturday. He officiated our 2 biggest victories of the season. Good omen if you believe in that type of thing.

I don't disagree with what you say but you won't stop we worrying. I'm still haunted by that season under Mowbray when we collapsed after Christmas.

Sure, I guess the difference is we were in the chasing pack at Christmas rather than a clear distance ahead of it. We also could only add some free agents to strengthen the squad as opposed to being able to spend a fair bit.

The xG tells a different story altogether. We should scored 2 goals minimum v PNE and Bristol City.

Pretty sure Bristol City had about the same xG as Ipswich and in one game, we concede 3, the other 0.

They also lost to Millwall. They’ve had some good wins but haven’t really beaten anyone that good to be honest.

Birmingham are tragic away and Leicester have an ok record away. For context, us beating Bristol this weekend was objectively more impressive than either of those wins.

They carry a massive goal threat so reckon a draw is a good result but breaking their record down… not that impressive to be honest.

I agree as long as you're not comparing Mowbray to Lampard

Let's try again to put your mind at rest slightly. We have only lost 2 games all season. In the top half of the table there's only 3 sides that haven't lost 2 or more in the last 6 games. That's us, Middlesbrough and Preston, and Preston W2 D3 so only 9 points from the last 6 games.

Or try this. If we win one lose one for the rest of the season that's 1.5 points a game. Can you see us being that bad especially with our home form? The teams below us would still have to average over 2 points a game for the rest of the season and the best are averaging only 1.66 points a game so far.

It out annual boys big day out. The last few have been terrible with losses to Birmingham and Portsmouth both away. The Birmingham game we actually booked rooms in the Birmingham supporters club pub.

Anyway win or lose we're on the booze and by 6 in the evening I doubt I will care (or possibly remember) the result. The Grumpy Monkey here we come.

No and the Top 4 was v much established between Leicester, Ipswich, Leeds plus Southampton and despite the bumps in the road for all those teams, that Top 3 was unchanged. Ipswich and Leicester had an impeccable 52 and 55 point tally after 22 games.

You can't underestimate just how far off the back most teams are at this stage of the season. For context, PNE in 3rd place are closer to Swansea (19th) than us at the top and would've been 6th on last years points tally.

This time last year, Sheff U were top with 47 points, followed by Leeds (42), Burnley (41) and Sunderland (40). It's only ourselves and Boro who have surpassed 40 points by 21 games and even Boro have so far overperformed the xG table quite significantly and my expectation is that they will slow down. The idea that Southampton, Leicester and Ipswich will all overturn a 13-17 point deficit with 25 games remaining is just not plausible.

That's a 5-6 game swing and that presumes they will win each and every game we slip up.

I'm the same.
Though at this point the worry has no basis in logic, there is nothing to suggest we'll collapse, (though I expect our PPG to drop off a bit), or that any of our rivals will put together a run necessary to catch us as far as knocking us out of the auto spots is concerned.

Still worried though!

That 15/16 squad was made up of teenage loanees, not a squad of experience that has been together for 2/3 years.

Go and have a mince pie and a cup of tea and relax.

ps If we sign Darius Henderson's younger brother in January you are within your rights to panic.

We also weren’t 12 points clear of 3rd by then. We could lose the next 4 and those teams still wouldn’t catch us.

Not that I'm that worried, but the elephant in the room is that Sheffield United were top this time last year and they didn't make it.

Burnley didn't lose a match for the rest of the season, and Leeds only lost one. That is just so far out of the ordinary for this league.

Sheffield United lost 8 matches after round 21, and drew 3. If we do that, we will be promoted.

There were 4 teams on 40 points plus after 22 games last season...

PNE and Millwall would be 6th and 7th based on last years points tallies. Even Blackburn last season had hit 37 points by this point last season.

In short, us and Boro are on par for automatic promotion by historical standards, the other teams have to hit 1-2 gears from where they're currently at to catch us. Ipswich and Southampton both have 13 and 12 away games left to play who have both averaged around 1.2 ppg away from home. They're not suddenly doing to hit 2.3 ppg away from home for the remaining away games.

If that's the case, is there a reason why professional footballers don't have the flu jab? Genuine question.
