When Lesta and Ipswich had a double digit lead on the chasing pack at the same stage 2 years ago did anyone really think they'd be overtaken?
No and the Top 4 was v much established between Leicester, Ipswich, Leeds plus Southampton and despite the bumps in the road for all those teams, that Top 3 was unchanged. Ipswich and Leicester had an impeccable 52 and 55 point tally after 22 games.

You can't underestimate just how far off the back most teams are at this stage of the season. For context, PNE in 3rd place are closer to Swansea (19th) than us at the top and would've been 6th on last years points tally.

This time last year, Sheff U were top with 47 points, followed by Leeds (42), Burnley (41) and Sunderland (40). It's only ourselves and Boro who have surpassed 40 points by 21 games and even Boro have so far overperformed the xG table quite significantly and my expectation is that they will slow down. The idea that Southampton, Leicester and Ipswich will all overturn a 13-17 point deficit with 25 games remaining is just not plausible.

That's a 5-6 game swing and that presumes they will win each and every game we slip up.

would only happen if we collapse - another 40 points will be enough for us

Winning 14 games out of 17 (before Ipswich)really put the dagger in. A third of the season and we won virtually everything with other teams getting nowhere near that form.
The shock and awe of those big wins that piled up the GD probably is not repeatable but doesn’t need to be. Maintain Playoff form now for the rest of the season and we will make the automatics.

Even a pessimistic take of our games up till end of March sees us around 80 points ( win majority at home, couple of draws /defeats and draw/lose majority away with a couple of wins)

In April we have 4 out of 6 “should win” games which will see us over the line. We have just not to drop clangers on some of those should win games and this season so far we haven’t.

How very dare you start being sensible this close to Christmas????? are you trying turn us all into believers, or what???

I’m a believer of the cause. We’re going up this year! Get a few signings in Jan just to shore up the squad and keep plugging away and win our home games.

We’ve got 13 home games left and if we can win 8-10 of those, we’ve done the heavy lifting required for the points tally.

Even if 3rd or 4th average 2 points a game for the rest of the season they would be a couple of points behind and so far they're averaging 1.66 points a game.

It really is starting to look as though we could confirm promotion with several games to go. Just winning our remaining home games is starting to look enough.

The calendar year performance is meaningless in the grand scheme of things, all that matters is the games in each season.

Nobody has said it will be easy even though they lost to Norwich last game and that was only the second win for Norwich since August.

It's simple. We have as much chance of winning as losing. I'm expecting a high scoring game.

Norwich have been an improving side without the results. I saw the game and think Southampton should have put it to bed. It’s a tough game for both sides. High scoring maybe, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was tight.

If we lose I won’t wet the bed, but a win would be fantastic.

At the start of the season, I thought the away games against Ipswich, Leicester, Southampton, Boro & Preston (no particular order) were the toughest games of the season.

Only one more to go and I would be happy with a point but I see no reason we can't take all three.

I'm glad this game is on Saturday after a week break, rather than Wednesday or the end of a 3 game week.

We are the best side in the league and we will have our best starting 11 (valid argument for BTA) fit and ready. So I think it suits us more than them.
