No and the Top 4 was v much established between Leicester, Ipswich, Leeds plus Southampton and despite the bumps in the road for all those teams, that Top 3 was unchanged. Ipswich and Leicester had an impeccable 52 and 55 point tally after 22 games.

You can't underestimate just how far off the back most teams are at this stage of the season. For context, PNE in 3rd place are closer to Swansea (19th) than us at the top and would've been 6th on last years points tally.

This time last year, Sheff U were top with 47 points, followed by Leeds (42), Burnley (41) and Sunderland (40). It's only ourselves and Boro who have surpassed 40 points by 21 games and even Boro have so far overperformed the xG table quite significantly and my expectation is that they will slow down. The idea that Southampton, Leicester and Ipswich will all overturn a 13-17 point deficit with 25 games remaining is just not plausible.

That's a 5-6 game swing and that presumes they will win each and every game we slip up.

would only happen if we collapse - another 40 points will be enough for us

Winning 14 games out of 17 (before Ipswich)really put the dagger in. A third of the season and we won virtually everything with other teams getting nowhere near that form.
The shock and awe of those big wins that piled up the GD probably is not repeatable but doesn’t need to be. Maintain Playoff form now for the rest of the season and we will make the automatics.

Even a pessimistic take of our games up till end of March sees us around 80 points ( win majority at home, couple of draws /defeats and draw/lose majority away with a couple of wins)

In April we have 4 out of 6 “should win” games which will see us over the line. We have just not to drop clangers on some of those should win games and this season so far we haven’t.

I’m a believer of the cause. We’re going up this year! Get a few signings in Jan just to shore up the squad and keep plugging away and win our home games.

We’ve got 13 home games left and if we can win 8-10 of those, we’ve done the heavy lifting required for the points tally.

Even if 3rd or 4th average 2 points a game for the rest of the season they would be a couple of points behind and so far they're averaging 1.66 points a game.

It really is starting to look as though we could confirm promotion with several games to go. Just winning our remaining home games is starting to look enough.

The calendar year performance is meaningless in the grand scheme of things, all that matters is the games in each season.

Nobody has said it will be easy even though they lost to Norwich last game and that was only the second win for Norwich since August.

It's simple. We have as much chance of winning as losing. I'm expecting a high scoring game.

Norwich have been an improving side without the results. I saw the game and think Southampton should have put it to bed. It’s a tough game for both sides. High scoring maybe, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was tight.

If we lose I won’t wet the bed, but a win would be fantastic.

At the start of the season, I thought the away games against Ipswich, Leicester, Southampton, Boro & Preston (no particular order) were the toughest games of the season.

Only one more to go and I would be happy with a point but I see no reason we can't take all three.

I'm glad this game is on Saturday after a week break, rather than Wednesday or the end of a 3 game week.

We are the best side in the league and we will have our best starting 11 (valid argument for BTA) fit and ready. So I think it suits us more than them.

I’ve seen that from him before. Out of nowhere, he can eat up the ground vs someone you thought was quicker. But not that often.

Off topic but does anyone else think they meant to say “haggard” in the second line?

I assumed they meant "haggard" but if you listen to The Enemy's recording it does sound as if it could be "haggled".

Yes all the lyrics have it down as haggled. Just wondering if the enemy themselves got it wrong - haggard makes more sense than haggled to me.

We could easily lose 3/4 games on the bounce as we don't look as clinical up front or defensively as good.

don’t agree with that, nearly half way through the season and we’ve only lost 2 games, Some signings in January and we’ll be even better, we’re top for a reason,

We've had very good GK's against us the last 3 games. That doesn't suddenly make us poor up front.

Is there a run of 4 games coming up you're worried about? Is our home form suddenly going to change?

I get you. We're Coventry City. We're not used to winning most of the time. But there's nothing to suggest we could easily lose 4 on the bounce when we've played most of our hardest games of the season and have still only lost 2 out of 21. From a very difficult November and December we've W6 D1 L1 so far. In 1 of the 2 games we lost most of our defence was missing.

We really don't manage being top of the League too well, do we??

I don't remember Ipswich or Scumderland fans being so negative or antsy when they were at the top, I understand it's cos we're Coventry init, but come on lads, enjoy this moment it has been a fucking long time coming.

It's worse than that. They have the equivalent of Collins and Wilson as their GK's. They got promoted with the same GK last time but they had a better defence. They might have got away with it again but they started with Will Still as manager and gave the other sides a head start.

I am enjoying it just as being a long time city fan just waiting for it to all go wrong. Obviously we are all hoping that it continues,I think we need a fee strong signings in January to help us over the line as we seen what happens when you get a few out in the same game (Wrexham) I don't think Ipswich were that great and hopefully we reverse the score in a week or so.All the players and staff have done great so far need another 20+ games with the same intensity.

First thing is, yes I would like to see a couple of players added to the squad in January.

But signings don't automatically make you better. Things don't always work like they should on paper.

Yes we have only lost 2 games. But the second half of the season won't necessarily mirror the first half. It will be hard to improve on it. There is more chance of us dropping more points second half.

But I still think we should be good enough to get the job done.
