Whoever it is needs experience at this level and extensive knowledge of lower leagues. Ultimately, where we are we need bargains and contacts

If it's Steve Bruce I am opening a bottle of champagne.

If it's Steve Evans I am cracking open a 12 pack of pork pies.

Who cares he'll be gone in 12 months
It's not the new manager we should be focusing on

Hi Sky blues, the token Bristol City supporter here.
If you went for Steve Cotterill, he would definitely keep you out of trouble and potentially have you fighting at the other end of L1 in a relatively short period of time BUT he's quite an egotistical character and I don't think he would work easily with the bastards at SISU.
At the Gate, he is rightfully held in extremely high regard and the consensus is that he grew the club so quickly that it became too 'big' for him. That said, the first 2 years under SC were absolutely superb. He took over, from Sean O'Driscoll with us floundering near the bottom of L1 and saved us with ease then built a side that absolutely walked L1 without spending huge amounts. We were actually in profit regarding transfers that season due to the sale of Sammy Baldock to Brighton. His undoing came at Championship level with obscene bids for the likes of Dwight Gayle and Andre Grey when we had no real chance of getting them and no plan 'B'. It left us very light on players going into a tough Championship season.
We were told by Burnley supporters that he's a superb L1 Manager but not so clever further up, something we found to be correct at Ashton Gate. His stubborness in persevering with 3-5-2 upstairs, even though we were getting battered at the higher standard, was sad to watch but us Bristol City fans would universally wish him well in his next job (as long as it's not the rovers), he's a top man.
As I said, IF he could work with SISU, I'm not sure about that, then you would have a very good Manager who's got a brilliant accent as well although I'm just a tad biased.
Good luck to you.

I'm hoping for Cotterill for the purely selfish reason of I stuck a fiver on him at 7/1 to take over. He's now 7/4 fav

Give the job to Tim Fisher, he Talks a good game. ( not )

SISU save money by getting Fisher to earn is money.

Then the Naughty Corner can sing your going to get SACKED in the morning and we want FISHER OUT.

yeah, let's have TF for manager, a prime target for rotten tomatoes,
i can just imagine his team talk,
'you there full back - that winger sailed long ago'
& 'you there striker - 2 corners do not a penalty make'
& 'you there sub - tomorrow we're playing tennis, i'll batter you in court'

I dont think it matters who is the next manager of CCFC, being realistic they have somewhere between Adam Chance and no chance of succeeding with the current owners in place. We have just lost an experienced manager with a track record of promotion and good football from his previous clubs yet if I or any of us on this board had managed the club for the first 10 games we could not sit any lower in the table.

This is not a lack of tactical nouse, team selection or motivation it is a lack of resources for the manager to use. Who ever is next we may see some improvement which most likely would have happened anyway but a sustained push for promotion? What we got with Mowbray last season was a glimpse of what we could achieve given a deeper squad. This year it seems clear men against boys week in week out. Nice football but no end result and as my boss used to say "Don't confuse effort with results"

1) he will have about £1.50 to spend.
2) it seems like most Coventry fans only understand the 4-4-2 formation.
3) he will be adored then rejected after 6 months what ever he achieves.

Now that sounds like a poisoned chalice Hobo.
On the formation, 3-5-2 worked brilliantly at L1 level for us as we had very quick full backs in Mark Little and Joe Bryan. The problem is that Championship sides tear 3-5-2 to pieces.
Whoever gets your job, I wish you well. As mentioned by many, the problems at CCFC are perceived, outside of your club and supporters, as being nothing to do with the Manager.

We need a way out...the solution seems to be some form of fluke.

To me it no longer matters who we get, it is a lottery. I just hope one day we land a manager who is either very lucky or who is a natural genius.

My favourite would be Martin Allen, if we could prise him away from League 2 Barnet. Loads of experience managing in lower leagues (over 500 games), with an average 41% win ratio. He's also very well connected in the footballing world through his family, playing and managerial career. I think he'd make an immediate positive impact and presumably would be within our budget. Whether he'd want to leave Barnet to work for SISU is another matter of course...........

That does indeed ask the question. We'll always get a manager but of what Calibre? Will Mowbray be the last decent name to be associated with this club? Words like history and sleeping giant can only carry so much weight. Have SISU finally eroded that? Is it the bottom of the barrel from here in? We're not exactly a glamorous club anymore, even at this level.

Indeed Tony, we're no longer a club which attracts high quality applicants - TM was an exception. I suspect that this a was, at least to some extent, a factor in our failure to recruit some players this summer. Obviously, money was probably the biggest factor. And it appears that MV and TM tried to recruit unrealistic targets too.

No, I'd just rather a decent lower league manager because we are a lower league club. Much better than somebody who is trying to shop like they were a higher league club and wondering why they can't.

Good post. Cotterill was the 1st name that came into my head - he made shrewd loan signings as well as permanent ones (e.g. that tall striker from Fulham who scored some vital goals for them, Smith I think). Also got Burnley punching above their weight. He recognises players who are good in the air in both boxes, exactly what we need.

Think he lost the dressing room at Bristol City because he can be very harsh on players... maybe (even though I still like him) TM was a bit too tolerant...

If we were to get a League Two manager, you are like expect him to be able to identify classy League Two and Conference players who look ready to make the step up.

I would be happy with a name we haven't heard of who works with small budgets and has a god win percentage ratio.

That's the thing, somebody who can pick out the Stokes like players.

They also need to know the actual game in these leagues, how physical it is etc.

Mark Cooper? His career has been up and down admittedly but he seems to do alright with limited resources.

Like Keith Hill? He won't leave Dale for us in our present state but thats the kind of manager we need.

so, who do we want,
imho, new owners,
therefore a huge increase in income, as thousands flock back to watch CCFC,
& imho, offer TM a proper competitive budget to complete the project he came to do

This club badly needs a lift more than ever. When TM came along we all thought finally a manager of some quality. he sorted a lot of mess out and the first season unexpectedly did better than anticipated until came off the rails. Given time he was working on a good team building exercise and with the likes of Stokes and Rose back in we may have something to shout about soon. So disappointed TM chucked it in when he did.
So who can give us that lift and make the players want to work extra hard and believe in themselves? Who's good at turning things around at short notice? That's what we need for now. We need to climb the table and have a strong finish. That man must be Neil Warnock.
Next season he can hand over the reigns to a decent man who can work well with an established young side so that man needs to be an exceptional 'coach'. Unless of course Warnock did a Wigan, got us up and wanted to give it a go in the Championship?

Any other choice spells further trouble at the gate where attendances will flop even from where they are now. You have to speculate to accumulate. It's football, it's different and Ms Sepella needs to understand that. All this talk of lower league managers is just not realistic. We need results andyou have to look to see where you can procure them from. For me that's to the rescue Warnock. Of he may not be interested at any price as there are plenty in the Championship he may well walk into soon...

At the end of the season, our best players will leave and our best young players will be sold. It happens every season. There never will be an 'established young side' to work with.
