Errm, isn't it best to secure the new land first and lay a few bricks before putting your old training ground up for sale?

Only seeking planning possibilities as compared to the WASPs farrago of appearing to get permission that almost certainly has been approved

I do wonder about the clause in the local plan about the training ground site:

"Implementation of site allocation DS3.9 can only occur when adequate replacement of pitch provision is made to the satisfaction of Rugby Borough Council and Sport England in accordance with national planning policy."

The condition seems to imply there needs to be the development of new pitches elsewhere, not the sharing of existing pitches. Also, I wonder whether there would be any geographic limitations on the provision of any new pitches (would they need to be in Ryton, or Rugby Borough, or within a certain distance of the existing facility).

There are a lot of unanswered questions here.

Yeah this interested me too.

Could it (could it!) be that the stadium dream becomes a reality...?

In their 9 years at the club, how many of SISU's stated aims/plans have ever been delivered?
  • Ownership of the Ricoh - nope
  • New stadium - nope
  • Open and honest communication with the fans - nope
  • Organic/sustainable improvement of the club finances and the team - nope
  • Sustainable academy - nope
  • Probably other things I've missed
The only 'success' they've had is to alienate everyone/everything they touch and take us out of the City to Northampton. It's no wonder we don't believe them and are tired of their propaganda.

It also does tie in with CA wanting to move the first team to the Higgs...

Maybe that is still on the cards with what they plan?

Wouldn't that go against RBC and Sports England wanting the pitches replacing at a separate location first? The Higgs is existing, also not in the Rugby Borough.

True, unless they are planning somewhere else.

Is it 100% it has to be in Rugby?

The only place in Rugby that could be OK for CCFC ground is the land next to the Eastern Bypass / M69 at Walsgrave / Ansty

I'm sure they'll find a way to get around this issue on the cheap.

Oh do fuck of with trying to continually pointing the finger in Wasps direction. Have you managed to make a post on this thread yet without mentioning them? This has nothing to do with wasps whatsoever. Why are you trying to change the story? What purpose does it serve you?

History? It was bought in 1980 I had been watching CCFC for 25 years by then!

Any way - "The centre wasn’t a success however, and some years later the then Chairman John Poynton sold the Connexion for a fraction of its initial build cost"

That is John Poynton - Who now bankrolls Jersey Rugby Club ( CT quote )

That's the way I read it but that could be my misinterpretation. I thought it was saying it was a loss of sports facilities in RBC area therefore the replacement also has to be in the RBC area.

"The Club would like to reiterate that the current site cannot be developed until it has demonstrated to Rugby Council and Sport England that an adequate replacement has been provided for."

let's hope that this bit is set in stone!

if you look at the quote I posted in post 123 it would seem it's a condition of planning permission that they have to provide alternative pitches elsewhere.
I think it's a valid question, does that mean it has to be in Rugby?
Obviously, with sisu involved it could all be bollocks but it would be nice to know that they will never sell Ryton without a viable alternative been put in place.
I wonder how strict that caveat is?

If I did I would be saying "dont worry, we are all having a new stadium soon" rather than questions.

Like the one asking if it means 100% replaced in the Rugby area, and yes let's hope it is set in stone!

What's wrong with asking that?

Note the company address is registered at Ryton, the new company address will probably be a PO box.

The other question is does these alterative pitches have to make up the training ground. It's quite possible that the club could put two random pitches somewhere in the borough satisfying RBC and sports England that no playing surfaces have been lost but not for the training ground at the fraction of the cost of building a new training ground. Then just renting facilities at UOW for example as a training ground.

How does it work with the pitches?

Like the ones at the Higgs were available to the public so that came into play, whereas these ones are completely for CCFC only aren't they?

Anybody know how that would work? Does it have to be like for like as in the standard of the pitches too?

Could SISU then just buy a little bit of land, put some grass and 2 goals in and say "there you go"? (Not that I am saying they should be able to, completely the opposite).

Yes, should be pointed out that the development of the Connexion nearly bankrupted the club at the time. Not one of JH's finest moments.

Yep, I think there is probably several ways of getting around this clause, this could be one.

Nice to see we're on the same page. For a change

The clubs statement gives me no confidence that we're going to be moving to a brand new spangly training ground and this is going to be a huge step forward for the club and it's infrastructure. I'm guessing you're feeling the same way too?

They have been trying it for years by the looks of it so it is by no means new news that they wanted to do that.

What sort of money are we talking they could get / make from it? Say they started trying years ago then if they got the nod what would they have done then? That was pre Wasps at the Ricoh, Pre Higgs etc, so wouldn't have been seen so much as an "end game".

I did think the same thing too. Couple of mill in the bank for the land, rent a pitch a Warwick Uni for peanuts and to satisfy Sports England stick some goalposts in a field and chuck a bit of astroturf down somewhere. Job done.
