Maybe we're just sinking back to our natural level then after years of punching about our weight, this is where we belong. At least that is what our attendances reflect at the moment, that this is our natural level.

With Shrewsbury and Chesterfield considered to be better than us? 50 other clubs seen as being bigger than us? We haven't found our natural level. We have found the level where people running our club have taken us to.

Most clubs fans would have wanted those relegation battles and 35 years in the top flight.

The attendances are a joke.

Exactly. Our history is a lot better than a lot of other clubs. Our fans need to get a reality check. The majority of clubs in our league would swap our history straight away.

They weren't "sick" when there was a chance of a trio to Wembley.

£249 isn't cheap? For 23 games and priority sale for cup games? £10.83 per game? I take my grandad £191/£8.30 pg, and 2 JSB's £41 (inc JSB membership) £1.78 pg. other than Bradford I doubt there are many if any with ST's as cheap as us in league two let alone league one.

Aldershot in the conference finished around the same place we did last season is £322 / £14 pg. http://www.theshots.co.uk/tickets/season-tickets/

Gateshead early bird price is £280/£12.17 pg http://www.gateshead-fc.com/tickets

Halifax £319, /£13.87pg http://www.halifaxafc.co.uk/tickets/season-tickets/

3 conference teams picked at random all with higher ST prices than us..

Bloody woe-is-me attitude if people are complaining of prices.

I think there are a lot of fans on here who totally underestimate the impact that SISU have had on driving fans away from the club and although they seem to be doing the right things there is still no evidence of any decent new signings don't care how far away we are from August other clubs have secured signings SISU abused the fans with Sixfields they owe us and it will take more than a club shop and management structure to bring fans back and unfortunately it is chicken and egg situation if the club is waiting for ST sales to generate funds the fans are waiting for evidence of investment before buying and so the cycle continues.

It's all about the product , the level of the teams we are playing and the population we can draw from.
A city the size of Coventry should be bottom half of PL .Thats where are current history suggests but Sisu won't get us there.

Also bored of fellow fans such as Grendel saying our crowds are pathetic etc.. can't think of any club who have had our lack of success and persistent failure who have maintained decend crowds, no promotion challenge in 13 seasons and 2 relegations, Sixfields followed by WASPS.

We played stoke in November at the Britannia in the 07/08 season. We won 3-1, Stoke were mid-table having finished the previous season in 8th after 3 seasons of mid-table finishes. following a promotion. The crowd back in 07/09 was 13,500 including over 1500 city fans. Stoke now sell out in the Premier League. Considering they were making gradual progress and would be challenging for the play-offs in 07/08 their crowds were poor but now with success they are sold out. Why are Cov fans expected to continue to turn out when it is clear we have been on the way down, we need success we need evidence that the club want to achieve success. Your move SISU

Exactly how I feel. 8k attendances are bloody good for all of the above imo.

Pompey had a season very similar to ours in the division below. They were favourites for promotion with the biggest budget in the division yet were getting drawn into a relegation battle leading to the sacking of their manager and eventually finishing 16th. They also had an embarrassing FA Cup exit to local non-league team (Aldershot).

Despite this they averaged over 15K at home and with season tickets £70 more expensive than ours are on course to sell over 10K.

Edit: Population of Pomey is 2/3 of the population of Cov.

Full house for Crewe in a poxy cup and again for our Ricoh return.

It was the first time since 1928 (apart from the Sixfields season) that we had an average below 10,000 last season. So it appears to me we have a strong core of 10,000 who have been there throughout the clubs history however we are even losing them now. It's alright losing your floaters who will go to the 2 or 3 games a season but when you're losing your hardcore there's a problem.

We had 21,000 average 2006, 21,000 2007 and 19,000 2008. So that's about 15k/16k season ticket holders I'm guessing? That's a remarkable drop off. You can blame our supporters all you want but the stats don't lie since SISU have came in attendances have decreased every season and so has the product on the pitch.

Great point but Aren't they fan owned and got rid of their sharks? I believe so. If Cov was fan owned then the community of the city would instantly become more involved

Sisu actions will take years to get people back regularly. They continue to take the piss and most people won't play along.

What was our average gate prior to the 87 cup run? Cov folk will show up for the big occasion but struggle to get there week in week out. It's funny how 'most people' play along with SISU just fine when a big game rocks up.

That's life.
An occasional high is not enough.
I'd say I'm 1 of 5000 hardcore people who have turned up for most games home and away. It used to be 10000 but those missing 5000 have now moved into the big occasion camp.

We've never had that number of season ticket holders in my memory.

In our first season post relation fans had already started to drift and we experienced gates of 12,000

It was 16,000 whilst Chelsea had 17,000. Every clubs attendances were at a low then let's be honest. Weren't we the 6th or 7th best supported team in the country then?

Can't compare 80s crowds to now for any club, hooliganism poor stadia pre-PL crowds were down everywhere just look at the crowds Arsenal and Newcastle used to get. Post Italia 90 the whole scene changed and crowds improved everywhere.

I would guess that the attendances increased through the year as people started to think about Wembley so any average would have been unbalanced but it was nearly 30 years ago and I can't remember what happened 30 minutes ago

Fair enough. I'm just saying that the Coventry public might like to shoulder just a small share of the blame for the club's plight, myself included. Having said that, it is an area with great potential and with consistent improvement on the pitch, who knows.

Spot on. I remember gates of 8k in the top flight. Families stopped going together. Some games you had to fight your way in and then out again. We did have the occasional full house. But it was because of a sea of red tops not sky blue. Those that never went in the 80's will have heard what it was like. But hearing about it and being there are two different things.

How about an away game? Drink in a pub together and it could get attacked. Have anything to do with your club on your car and it would get smashed up. Go on a train and you could get attacked by supporters of clubs you were not playing. You only got the ones you were playing as you got off. Go on a coach and watch the bricks come in.

Good idea. Lets compare the 80's crowds.
