Way over the top, cancel culture in full force.

Wasn't so long ago the whole world was behind Charlie Hebdo and now a teacher is suspended just for showing the cartoon in an RE lesson because pricks are kicking off.

Least the teacher hasn't been murdered like the bloke in France.

Not murdered ..... so far.

Tbh it was a silly thing to do but then as someone who is non religious I don't think RE has a place in school at all. In fact I'd replace it and call it RE.spect. That's what they should be learning about, respect for themselves, respect for others and respeect for society as a whole. Accepting that you might not share the same views but can live together without feeling the need to stab, shoot or feel crappy about yourself on social media.

If they insist on arguing who's imaginary friend is best then each can go to their own place of worship for that.

Looks like he is being named on social media and is now in police protection. Can't see him going back to work there.

I don't know what it's like in other schools, but an RE teacher I used to know, it was (nowadays) as much about showing the differing faiths in the world (including agnosticism/atheism) as championing one / many faith(s). That seems reasonable to me.

Stupid thing to do by the teacher, deserves to be suspended. He knew the repercussions by doing it.

Yeah I don't have an issue with it. I much prefer my daughter to be familiar with things that are "different" to her. So that goes for different religions, LGBT stuff, disabilities, cultures etc.

I remember when we did it in RE it took about 15 minutes every time the teacher said "Mohammed" because everybody would then say peace be upon him constantly.

It isn't 'cancel culture' tbf. I think it's ridiculous don't get me wrong, but the teacher knows what the game is with this sort of stuff.

Their aim is to just get him sacked.

Guess it depends on the context of it all.

I remember in history learning about the war we were shown Nazi Propaganda, doesn't mean that the teacher was trying to convert us.

Nick you are so out of touch. In Islam it is completely forbidden for anyone to show a visual representation of Mohammed. It was completely idiotic by the teacher quite frankly, and to blame it on cancel culture is so lazy.

Yeah context is everything, by the same token, teachers didn't pass around harcore porn when I was at school (although at university, I had one lecturer who did just that!!).

It's a stupid thing to do if he knew what he was doing (and an RE teacher should?) as much because it causes offence to people and it's easily avoidable without really affecting the world. In that case, a suspension is probably appropriate to show that they're aware of that.

What isn't appropriate is the way OTT reactions after that.

It is because they are just there to try and get the teacher sacked aren't they? They aren't saying "Change the way we teach kids" they are saying "we want him sacked".

Much the same as when the same sort of thing happened about LGBT stuff being taught at a school.

Looks like the school is closed today and the teacher in police protection so can't see them going into teach anyway.

They want him sacked because it is grossly inappropriate for a teacher to do, especially an R.E. teacher. It is worthy of suspension.

Again, surely it's about the context of it?

Yep he is suspended and probably won't go back there again.

There is no context regarding it. It is forbidden in any circumstance to show a picture of Mohammed. I'm really surprised you dont know this.

I am sure lots of things in lots of different religions are forbidden and allowed that aren't the same in other religions...

The bit about context is what he was teaching them, if he was saying "these fucking Muslims, have a look at this funny shit" or his approach was to say what happened and why.

It isn't just Islam, should be the same for all religions.

And he should have just shown them this... Good job I had left school when he played for us else in RE he would have come from Bosnia and been a big fucker.

Religion is archaic nonsense ...open to debate and scrutiny like anything else .

There is no evidence that Mohammed even existed...it's no different to mass anger and protests over somebody slating santa claus...pathetic but not surprising

Oh good, this again.

The cranks organising the protests are the kind of people which every school can do without - even local Muslim groups say they’re unhelpful and wish they’d stay home. But they do it for a reason, and to provoke a certain reaction, and as long as the same people keep giving them the ammunition they’re looking for, then it’ll probably keep happening.

Freedom of speech is paramount, of course. But there’s no harm in remembering that it has different limits for different people, and that there are better hills to die on than a secondary school RE class.

Well actually when Religion starts impeding on normal life , its affecting people .

People getting angry over sky fairies , now that's some funny shit
Same as you getting angry and wound up over people being called flag shaggers. Swings and roundabouts.

I suppose the concept of somebody actually shagging a flag is still more realistic than a god ever being real 😁

No its not......Its only forbidden by a bunch of over zealous religious weirdos which is reinforced every time people pussy foot around such nonsense.

Quick.....better put a death fatwa on google search.....

The people protesting about this are bigots living in the dark ages......and any people supporting such outrage are pathetic apologists for said bigots.

I totally agree.
I respect peoples right to practice religion but like all other major high profile institutions it must be open to criticism and ridicule.

It is really funny seeing what some people think we do and don’t teach in school. Thanks to Michael Gove we have to teach ‘British values’ in PSHE and can no longer teach American texts in GCSE English. But yes we do also teach not to behead someone over a religious disagreement.
