Thanks guys. feeling the nerves now but all set for a good day! all the best @PVA

Good luck mate, make sure you don`t skip any of the aid stations and get loads of water and gel down you, as it`s going to get quite warm and if one thing blows you up, it`s the heat and lack of water (y)

Was flying till 35km and on for something in the late 3.30s, but got absolutely excruciating cramp in every muscle in both legs!

I've been injured since late Feb, my longest run since then has been a 20k so I came in massively under cooked. Still pleased though for a first marathon and given my injury problems.

Well done @Ccfcisparks !
Well done mate a fantastic time.

We did it!

Well done @PVA @Ccfcisparks great running 👊

I did 3.09.52 at a very warm Newport marathon today. Went out hard, did the first half in 1.28 then tried to cling on from 18 miles onwards. Went through 20 miles just on 3 hour pace but knew I was cooked. Took walking breaks in each of the last 6 miles to get me home.

Happy enough with my 2nd fastest marathon time and a nice way to say goodbye to the longer distances....its 5 and 10ks all the way for me now!

Thank you mate, and to you too!

Totally totally agree! Loved the first half, hated the second!

5’s and 10’s for me please

Well played lads! Awesome times all round.

I did my bit, walked 100 yards to the end of my road and clapped long enough for my watch to think I've done 15k steps today. Big sense of FOMO though...

Our first grass session of the summer last night, and we were greeted by warm and sunny weather.

A tough one...

8 x 1 minute (2 minute rests)
8 x 250mtr hills (jog back down)
8 x 1 minute (2 minute rests)

A tough session, thats quite a lot of volume (approx 24 minutes work) but in short reps so it was all quite fast. Very easy to lose control and suffer badly at the back end of the session.

Luckily seemed to pace it about right and was consistent throughout.

Next race is the inter-counties fell champs a week on sunday in Cumbria, where i'm putting on the Warwickshire vest... then the following weekend doing the 3000mtrs on the track in the Warwickshire track champs at Nuneaton.

Is that fell champs the one on the Howgills by Sedbergh ?

If so, there are some brutal uphills !

Yeah.

To be honest its fairly tame as fell-races go. The inter-counties are used as the Trial race for the GB team for the World/European champs in Slovenia, and the course is designed to mimic that course in Slovenia.

Its undoubtedly tough work, but its still way too flat with too much good quality running for me.... i need it steep and rough as possible to claw back some advantage over the good cross-country runners.

Although.... there are some brutal climbs and races elsewhere in the Howgills.

I ran the " Calf " last year as part of a half marathon last year.

I won`t lie, as a mediocre trail runner, it was without doubt one of then hardest things I`ve ever done, the only thing that came close was a trail half on Snowdon, that wasn`t really a half, but fifteen miles of bouldering, scree sliding and fell running in a blizzard :ROFLMAO:

The Howgills are one of the most beautiful places I`ve ever ran though and I`ve done a lot of runs around Cumbria / Yorks and Wales.

They deffo get in my top three for beauty.

Ps - do you have any tips for hamstring injury recovery ?

I`ve developed lower hamstring pain behind my right knee.

I can walk fine, but can`t put any load on it - running, going up and downstairs etc.

I`ve been doing an hours gentle cycling every day and exercises, which I thought had cured it after two weeks, but the first time I attempted a gentle run in zone 1, it came roaring back, so It`s been back to cycling again for the past week.

The Howgills are beautiful, and so quiet in comparison to much of the Lake District.

The terrain isn't too bad if you're on the main paths... some of the fell races, the quickest routes just veer straight off the side of the mountains, they are tough both uphill and downhill.

As for the hamstring.... it seems like you're doing the right thing.... resting from anything painful, but keeping it mobile and active..... i'd really suggest getting to a good physio/osteopath..... need to find a good one.... there's a lot of difference between a physio who doesn't really understand activity and running, and will just tell you to stop all activity for 6 weeks, and someone who will give you realistic advice.

Thanks for that

I`ve got a trail half in the Clun Valley Shropshire on Sunday, which fortunately has no cuts off, so I`m going to test it out on that - jog/ walk.

I`m not very patient when it comes to injuries and can normally adjust to my running to them, but this is different.

When it went, it felt like the back of my leg was on fire, which spread into my whole knee.

It`s now down to about 2/10 on the pain scale, but still doesn`t like going up and downstairs.

I`ve got a good mate, who is a hospital physio, I`ll see if he knows anyone.
