You think we are extending to sell him on? Would be a shame as I think there is a lot of value in keeping him in the squad.

Good luck to Burroughs and Howley, been here a long time, (or seems like it), hopefully get offered professional terms elsewhere.

Burroughs will get a gig at L1 or L2. Howley I’m less certain on.

I'm happy to be shot down... other than Eccles, are there any other players in the current first team who've come through our youth system? (seen glimpses of Obikwu who looks sharp tbf) - Just questioning if we're utilising our you system...

We've released a few youth players and I can't think of any players really breaking through or bringing in income for the club (other than Eccles, historically Madison etc but few and far between). I know that it only take one successful player to make it all worthwhile but still it would be great to see more young talent breaking through, pushing for places. When I look at clubs like Wycombe, who I don't believe run a youth academy but instead actively scout the National League and lower tiers to buy and resell players (like Richard Kone, who looks set to move on for a decent fee), it makes me wonder about our current strategy.

I don’t mean this as a negative dig, just a question, maybe with Doug’s investments over the last few years we may see players come through. It would just be nice to see a few more get game time (if they're good enough).

The problem with that Wycombe approach for example - they have less pressure, so can take gambles and play rough diamonds. Higher up you go comes with pressure and no time to do that.

issue with academy now, any talent is hoovered up, we’ve lost 3/4 in last 24 months to PL teams, likely never to be heard of again as development stagnates.

2 things:

1. it’s far more difficult for youth to break through into a team challenging towards the top of the Championship vs when we were in L2.

2. we’re getting pillaged on what seems like an annual basis as a result of EPPP. The deck is stacked against us until we run a Category 1 academy.

Agreed, I think Howley will drop to non league, whether he can then do a Callum Maycock progress and come back to league football a little later in his career I'm not sure. Not being able to get a kick in the Scottish tier is worrying.

People saying taking risks on rough diamonds are forgetting the likes of Rapha and Bassette who are clearly punts on young players with obvious potential but also shortcomings enabling us to get them cheap/cheapish

Sounds silly but I’d imagine a Saudi takeover wouldn’t worry too much about the stadium. They'd have the funds to buy it or build a brand new one if they wanted to

If that ever happened, the Saudis would build a brand new state of the art stadium either in the centre of the city or in the south of the city, they would build around it, everything geared up to create a positive image of themselves.

You'd see a 40 thousand state of the art complex, with everything surrounding it (bars, restaurants, shops etc) all geared up for top flight football, they would then move the training complex.

The Saudis are all about engineering an impression of themselves through construction and success, their long term goal has always been to secure their future by diversifying their streams of income.

The western European model Is heavily based on tax and individual control, the insane lengths to try and get everything electric and create this ideology that electric is better than fossil { you need fossil to power the electric charging stations} is just another form of control, the Saudis won't have any skin in the game long term, hence these mega projects, the purchasing of football clubs, the heavy fan focused investment in boxing.

These Saudis would 100 percent change the landscape of our Football club, that's a fact. The on field investment, the Stadium would be in an area far more accessible for everyone traveling in, the youth academy would be improved as would the first team training complex.

The 3rd kit would piss you off, and they would eventually want to change our club emblem, and for that the Saudis can suck my weiner.

With all the other improvements, surely the club needs to be looking into gaining cat 1 status?

So basically Frank has let anyone go who didnt make it onto the pitch in his reign apart from a GK. Seems a sound enough strategy to me

In better academy news, I saw on TikTok we won an U12s tournament a few weeks ago that also had Ajax and Southampton in it.

Ajax used to be held up as being the best for youth development. I dunno if that’s still the case. Players seem to just get snaffled up by the biggest clubs nowadays.
