Ponticelli played in 26 games that season - why is that small

Grendel struggling with statistics again.

McNulty scored at a better rate than Ponticelli in the league that season.

Because it was only 109 mins per goal, Davis sub appearances are unlikely to be so small across that number if games. I can't prove that of course but I'd bet its longer.

I didn’t set the league as a parameter you did and you said goals per minute is a barometer which means Kastaneer is one of the best players we have at scoring goals

Mick Harford in that measure would score 248 goals a season.

Oddly you’ve also ignored scoring records at other clubs (signing clubs wouldn’t) and the fact one hardly played as a striker.

Once again classic PVA a gift that never ever stops giving

No you're the one that's saying Kastaneer is the best player ever. Everyone else is saying the sample size is too small, a point you're apparently incapable of processing.

Not sure I agree with you there. I'd say Godden is more of an instinctive, natural finisher than Walker.

If I could guarantee them being injury/covid free next season, I'd gladly have them leading the line together. Walker playing a slightly more withdrawn role.

I think them two, with O'Hare in behind, could be pretty lethal.

I do get the Walker is younger though and has more time to prove himself at Championship level.

Do you know how many of Bakas appearances were as sub? Only 25 and a record of 36 in 218 total. Stats can be misleading but they're all we have to use as a yardstick and imo he should score more.

Everyone said Ponti needed more game time here and was the most natural finisher at the club. He's had a couple of injuries but 0 in 14 for Wrexham again suggests the gaffer was right. Whatever the level a striker needs to find some goals and we need a 15 goal a season striker next year to kick on, hopefully Godden or Walker steps up, but I can't see it being Davis.

We have two good strikers with good strike rates this season. In all competitions, Walker scored a goal per 240 minutes and Godden scored every 255 minutes. That could roughly translate to a goal every three games. For comparison, Biamou scored every 350 minutes.

Bearing in mind that both players had issues with their fitness, you have to be optimistic that both players will do better next season.

no I’m saying he’s the best player by your measure. What’s the sample size and when is it that it kicks in?

Mate you love this Mick Harford gag don’t you. You’re a marketer aren’t you or something, so you understand stats you’re just being deliberately obtuse.

Goals per games can be misleading because of random 5 minute cameos which inflate the “number of games” and give an impression of much more game time.

Goals per minutes can be misleading because of situations where someone comes on for a very small amount of time and scores and then hardly, or never, plays again (probably like your hilarious example that I’m not old enough to appreciate).

The reality is something like goals per starts, or goals per games with over 60 minutes played, would be a better measure of goal scoring ability. Probably a sample size of 5 or more. Of course most people know this but it’s not as fun for point scoring

I think goals per minutes is most useful but a lot of places have a cut off where any players who haven’t made it to 900 minutes, the equivalent of 10 full games, don’t make the cut as the sample is too small.

Everyone arguing knows this but it suits to act the idiot sometimes.

Same! I’m not sure where people are getting the information on players being released. Bakayoko is the only one that has publicly said his goodbyes.

Waiting for the club to make an official announcement before jumping to conclusions as the sources being quoted range from a phone shop in Foleshill to Agent Harriot on Twitter.

Coventry City Football Club can confirm the players who will be leaving the Sky Blues following the conclusion of the 2020/21 season.

Striker Max Biamou has not been offered a new contract. Max joined in 2017 and was part of the League Two promotion side and the League One title winning team, playing 115 games for the Sky Blues and scoring 26 goals.

Striker Amadou Bakyaoko is leaving Coventry City following the end of his contract in June. Signed in 2018, Baka was part of the League One winning side, playing 85 games for City and scoring 13 goals.

Midfielders Dan Bartlett and Jordan Young, and defenders Joe Newton, Jordon Thompson and Morgan Williams will be leaving the Sky Blues following the expiry of their contracts.

Loans player returning to their parent clubs are Leo Ostigard (Brighton and Hove Albion), Viktor Gyokeres (Brighton and Hove Albion), Ben Sheaf (Arsenal), Sam McCallum (Norwich City) and Matty James (Leicester City).

Manager Mark Robins said: “I would like to thank those who are leaving for their time with us, the contributions that they have made to the Club, and wish them all of the best for their future careers.

“Some of the players that have not been offered new contracts have made big contributions to our success in League Two and League One, and will be fondly remembered by the Club and its supporters for years to come for their efforts on and off the field.”

Everyone at Coventry City wishes all of the players leaving the Club the very best for the future, and thank them all for their hard work and contributions to our success.

Newton can count himself a little unlucky from a 23s perspective as his performances were good but was at risk when the club signed Reid who’s a year younger.

Good luck to all players whatever their next step is

No huge surprises in that list. I perhaps thought Joe Newton might be kept on but assume our progress and his aren’t aligned.
