I’m being slightly tongue in cheek…my main problem with it is the inevitable sectarianism.

No argument from me on that.
But the initial post I replied to is why do people in England follow it and I just gave my reason as to why I thought they did.

Lots of teams carry baggage, Millwall, West Ham etc, the England national team was probably the worse for a couple of decades, but I don't think most people getting their kids involved think too deeply about that stuff.
I think most just want to pass on their love of the team to their kids, even if they live on the other side of the world.

Fuck knows why so many English football fans are so invested in either of them.
Agreed

Any time I have ever been asked by a Scot if I have a 'Scottish Team' I have just answered St Mirren, for no reason other than they won the FA Cup the same year as us - Look of confusion on their face expecting an Englishman to say Rangers is funny at least

Its weird enough that anyone, whether they’re from Scotland or not, would ask an Englishman if they have a Scottish team.

Let’s be honest, Celtic in the top flight would be a far bigger ‘brand’ than Bournemouth, Brentford, Fulham or any of the other clubs I forget are top flight clubs. Same for Rangers.
I think Rangers would thrive in the Premier League, and Celtic would be doomed. But I’m basing that purely on my views on transubstantiation.

When we lived in Inverness a lot of the locals supported Inverness & Celtic or Rangers which I always thought was weird. When we moved to the central belt when I told someone that I supported Coventry I was asked which Scottish team I support & they were shocked when I said that I don't. I have also been asked which PL team I support 🤬

Lived in Scotland for nearly a decade and my wife is Scottish also. Formerly an Aberdeen fan so we often watched them when they played in Dundee.

Some of the worst football I have ever seen, at least professional. Then some friends of mine who supported Dunfermline invited me to some of their games and it was a whole other level of shite. Great stadium food though, they do that better than we do.
Was it genuinely that bad as standard? As long ss it's competitive i don't notice really. Even non league here can be good, it's the atmosphere that makes it. Back in our L2 season, I certainly didn't notice too much and teams seem relatively to the league they're in. I only really notice the gulf when they come up against superior opposition, and it looks levels apart.

I was just talking about what was on the pitch rather than anything else. The atmospheres are fine and the food’s good. Highlights from that specific game here, you can judge if I was being unfair!

That Dundee United team has players who went on to play for Sporting Club and get promoted from the championship and an ex Cov legend ;)

Yes the SPL isn't of the same quality as the Championship, England is a much bigger place so that makes sense but it can be strange sometimes as some players who were awful in Scotland such as Mikey Johnston can be seen as good players here.

We were in the Aberdeen end and the reverse ‘limbs’ when the goal was scored was something else.

There were players in both sides who either already had or would go on to play for decent teams. That wasn’t my point-the football on display was just very poor. Admittedly that I watched basically all my games on the east coast may have something to do with that.

One of the Dunfermline games-featuring a certain Lawrence Shankland

Crazy. Shows how poor that league is in reality.
I think the league leveling out is probably delightful for the fans of all the other long suffering non Old Firm clubs, but the sad reality is its because the Old Firm have regressed badly rather than the others have got significantly better.

Shit pub league, Rangers and Celtic wouldnt stay up in the championship

Love to see Hearts win it
Rangers fans were deluded arse wipes when recently linked with Lampard. Not sure why some on here are so precious about either club. I'm not bothered about the SPL but I do hope Hearts win it.

Just such a negative way to look at it

I feel like adults forget the love of the game as get older

I still remember being enamoured with every league and I hope that never fades.
It's not its realistic. I've said many times as funny as it is because Rangers and Celtic aren't particularly likeable, I preferred it when leagues were closer in quality and better players were well spread across the continent.
That however is not reality anymore, the SPL is dire and the Old Firm have been dragged down by it. The Norwegian league is higher ranked these days, among others.

But it is closer this year which you like. So just enjoy it

I think enjoying it is pushing it. I care about it about as much as I do the previously mentioned Norwegian league. I like an occasional underdog story and I'd like the obnoxious Old Firm clubs to shut up for a season so I will be hoping Hearts win it for that reason alone.

We still keep half an eye out for Aberdeen's results as it's the wife's club before she saw the sky blue light, they've been shite for a long time now. The league as a whole does need a new winner, but it just desperately needs a fat TV deal at this point to raise standards quickly.

Whoever's running the game up there isn't doing their job too well.
