I don't even know what he looks like. Can I at least see his face first and check that he's had a bit of a wash down there.

Of course we can complain! Dabo’s first yellow card wasn’t a yellow! I don’t understand what your point is with the fouls he committed in between his first and 2nd yellow card? The 2nd yellow is a yellow all day long, no complaint there. But it wasn’t because of an accumulation of fouls.

Yeah, I thought it was a pen too. Definitely seen them given. Mind you, I’ve also seen them not given.

The ref was strange. I saw that as a pen, Jobello get wiped out, Dabo taken out twice and also someone else, and he gives nothing. And then he gives a yellow to Dabo for jumping for the ball!
Agree that the first Dabo yellow was harsh, the reaction of their players and the crowd convinced a weak ref to give him that yellow. My point about the fouls afterwards is that as soon as he has the first yellow that is going to be in the ref's mind for every subsequent foul. It would take a strong ref (and he wasnt) to not give a second booking for someone's second or third foul while already on a yellow. Dabo gave away a foul a few minutes after his first yellow and my instant reaction was that he could have gone (very harshly) then as I thought their players and the crowd would sway the ref.

Edit: just realised you weren't saying that Dabo's second yellow was harsh (as some others are). But I do think that he'd have been given that second yellow for absolutely any foul, however minor, at that point in the game because he was on a yellow and had subsequently given away another foul or two.

And on the balance of all of the decisions last night, I don't think we can complain as I think we came out on the better end of it due to not giving what looked like a pen and stopping the play as they went through on goal. Just my opinion, of course.

Ha ha! We drove to the Good Companion about 7pm and there were no spaces so had to park up Milton Road opposite the old prison!

Surely going 5 at the back vs 9 men isn’t the issue, it’s the inability to see the game out for three points from 3-1 up vs 9 men even w a 5 man defence that’s the issue.

I said that to my son at the time-why the hell has Jackett taken off a forward player and another defender has come on? Bizarre substitution and very negative.

The most satisfying thing about this game is that we would have lost this last season. The circumstances of this result is heroic.

If we can nick a point at Fratton Park with 9 men playing badly, it begs the question of what can we do playing well?

Just finally seen the Dabo sending off (thanks ifollow) - seeing as though the ref played advantage a lot during the game he did us a massive favour stopping the play there, looked like a great chance for them to kill the game. Also thought we were lucky to not give away a pen in the first half.

Genuinely can't see how people are saying Kastaneer's second booking was harsh. To make that tackle when already on a yellow was stupid. And Dabo's second yellow was his second or third foul after his first yellow so I think that, coupled with that it stopped a great chance for them, means we can't complain.

Other than that, great spirit. Took me back to this (is that a young Andy Thorn looking mightily pissed off at our equaliser?)

Edit: This video also reminds me that Paul Williams and Richard Shaw were bloody awful.

The only reason he stopped it was to send off Dabo and prevent him getting back to defend when he shouldn’t have been on the pitch. At least that’s what my now old referee’s hat says

The midfield (Shipley and Westbrooke) is a bit of a concern for me and needs to be strengthened if we are actually looking to go up this year.

There certainly is, and regardless of how negative they were they shouldn’t have conceded at the end. However, I do think Jackett shouldn’t have been so negative, especially managing a team that looks like it can score goals but leaks them as well.

Seems clear both he and his players thought it was in the bag and all they had to do was play generically and see out the time.

Strangely that 3-3 draw with 9 men after being 1-3 down felt almost better than a win would have been with 11 men. The feeling at full time was pretty euphoric and the despair on the faces of Pompey fans trudging homewards a picture, talking to a couple of Portsmouth they said they feared another Cov set piece as they were sure we’d get a winner and in fairness complemented us as being a very good team and will be well in the mix for promotion. Will wait and see on that one.

I mean we ideally need more strength and depth to compete across the whole season, it's probably asking for too much though

Shipley, Westbrooke and Eccles are good enough backup. You aren’t going to find a player of the quality of Allen or Kelly to sit on the bench just in case. We can also switch to a system with 2 in the middle if we need to.

Probably is too much to ask for.

We had the likes of Ogogo and Andreu not getting a game last year who eventually asked to leave...

When we have players like Ogogo that are sat on the bench not getting minutes, we moan at the manager for buying such players.

Kelly, Shipley and Allen, with Westbrook supporting is a good unit.

robins has changed ccfc mentality and DNA alot but we are still weak compared to alot of teams imo. play shit when 11 vs 11 and bit of pressure on

when down to 10 and then 9 and you are underdogs play well

have faith robins can get them to play with that intensity and grit from minute 1 next time out

4 players for 3 demanding positions is not enough. we need 1 more really depending on if eccles is ready or not

We could do with a loanee or two, but we’ve got options formation-wise. We could easily revert to a 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2 if need be.

I thought Eccles looked alright in his cameo role v Southend, maybe he’s close to stepping up?

I don't think it is asking too much and pretty sure Robins knows it. Shipley is still only 21, so another season of regular sub appearances will not harm his development. Hopefully we'll get that attacking midfielder from a Cat 1 academy on a season long loan.

That's been the Coventry City way for as long as I can remember!

In fact, as soon as they had us tagged as favourites going into that Bolton game, I had an instinctive feeling we wouldn't win it!

Robins has stated the loan market has been ‘difficult’ this season.

I like Shipley, if he get a consistent run in central midfield this season, he’ll score 5-10 goals. He and Allen could be big contributors this season.

Westbrooke was impressive against Southend but struggled a bit more last night against better opposition so I'm inclined to think Eccles would have as well but that's just an opinion.
We are definitely light in numbers and need midfield and right back cover. Pasks injury could be very telling as the season progresses.

Portsmouth have got a good team that should be competing for the top 2 really. They spent £2m on Marquis!

Away at Portsmouth is a big task for any L1 midfield.

If we can’t find a CM good enough do make an immediate difference, I’d invest in the development of Westbrook and Shipley.

Don’t agree we are weak, we dominated last night from the off and gave away a 1-0 lead with two daft preventable goals, straight after half time we again on top one way traffic as I saw it then against the run of play gave away another daft goal which could have deflated us, had a player sent off, still dominated got a goal back, had another sent off and still took the game to Pompey, hardly weak.
We should all remember this team is ‘work in progress’ it will get better and the squad fully fit I think is quiet strong and versatile and proved to be backed up by good youngsters a couple of real good lads in Jack Burroughs and Jonny Ngandu not seen yet.

i alluded to it being a work in progress. dont beleive we dominated at all and to get a goal after 3 mins and still make silly mistakes to lose control is a weakness

plenty of time for robins to continue his good work though, there was a time we couldnt even compate in these away games not so long ago after all

I know he gets a bad press but I think Shipley is improving and I have been quite impressed with him this season.
I've noticed that a lot of the errors he makes are when he has time, when he has to do stuff instinctively he's generally more productive.

Saturday's team

McCallum for Dabo (suspended)
Eccles for Westbrooke (Westbrooke has ball skills, but maybe it is Eccles' time)
Bapaga for Jobello (assuming Jobello is unfit)

I'd love 2 up front - Baka & Godden but not if the long term commitment is to 4-3-3.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Rose move over to fullback, he can play there giving Hyam, our best defender imo chance to come in, should Jobello be injured MR has a few options Baka, Biamou, Allen if fit. Kasteneer was only sub last night anyway. Can’t see him dropping Westbrooke after another decent game.

We said after the first few games that he commits fully and very string and likely to lose him multiple times to red cards this year.

I thought the first was totally a yellow, was late, over imposed himself to go through the man when he wasn’t getting the ball, if his timing was at the same time as the player headed it then fine but he was late

Unless Allen’s fit, Westbrooke won’t be out the team. Especially with injuries and suspensions as they are.

McCallum for Dabo
Maybe Bapaga for Jobello (if he’s unfit), but I could see Robins going for Biamou or Baka and playing 1 of them or Godden on the right. Probably Godden as he’s more mobile.

He wasn’t really late, just smaller. The guy made a meal of it and then their players rushed in as if he’d gone in with a leg breaker! Joke of a yellow. Weak ref.
