They bullied us last year and JDS, MVE and Collins were culpable along with below par performances all round.
JDS and MVE gave Blackburn their two main chances. They need to be on it at Pompey this time.
Pompey are a side who raise their games against the better sides. They have beaten Middlesborough and even Liverpool lat year.
Win the battle first and we will win the match.

EMC very meh recently 😕

The 2 goals came from he's Crosse's. 😎
He put in 2 very poor crosses, both of which were straight onto the head of Blackburn defenders.

Fortunately for us the defenders made the basic error of not heading the ball into safe areas, and chose instead to find City players in dangerous areas on the edge of the area who vollied home.

His end product all game was piss poor which is becoming a bit of a habit just recently, maybe hes still not 100% fit yet.

I realise there's absolutely no way this will happen, but for this particular game I'd play Bidwell at LB and move BTA to LW (in place of EMC) and bring in either Eccles or Allan into MF.

This would make us far more solid and competitive against what I think will be a very physical opposition.

Think Eccles is still out. I agree if fit, I would play him

I still have nightmares over that game last year.

The irony is, if Bassette wasn't such a headless chicken, we'd have been 3-0 up in 15 minutes.

not having any of this settle for a point stuff. we're top of the league and should have bags of confidence. should be going into every game looking for 3 points.
Absolutely - let's get a 1-0 win, so we have 1-0, 2-0, 3-0, 4-0 and 5-0 for our last 5 results.

Allen is the last person I’d play when up against physical opposition.

Tats is the one I’d drop from the front four once Rudoni is back, but I think unless BTA’s form continues then him and Sakamoto will take turns in that RW role depending on our opponents.
Rudoni sits on the bench when fit and waits for his chance.

Win % with Rudoni = 50%
Win % without Rudonu = 100%

The lad can wait, no need to rush him back just yet, let's get him 100% fit first

We lose an element of control with BTA in the 10 but it’s hard to drop him when he keeps scoring

I assume it’ll be the same team and would take a draw
Definately this as we were light in midfield.

Eccles has to come in for EMC...

To get another body in midfield to control the game. Got away with at home vs Blackburn.

Asante/Wright/Sakamoto
Eccles /Torp
Grimes
Da Silva/Kitching/Thomas/Milan.
Rushworth.

Then

EmC on as sub for Asante
Ellis on for Wright
Kesler on For Saka

Only team that makes. Be very stupid to go with same team as Blackburn as it clearly didnt work.

Nah Rudoni straight back in when fully fit. But he'll take a bit of time to get there yeah.

Ok, but his runs to the byline stretches their defense leaving space on the edge of their area to get shots on Goal. 🤔

But he's got a contract to sign, can't be waiting around I'd have thought ?

It will be the same team - I'd almost bet my life on it. Frank is not Robins, rarely springs a rabbit from the hat, values consistency instead.

Myself, I would consider one of these two changes:-

KKH for Tats. I just think KKH looks an absolutely fantastic all round player from the few glimpses I've seen.

Allen for BTA. Harsh but we were regularly losing the midfield scrap on Saturday until Allen came on and just did the basics in the middle of the park. Push Torp forward.

Frank has to put a rocket up the bum of EMC. You can see what he is capable of, just do it more often. He cost a sum not that different to Grimes, but the return has been appreciably less

They had 2 or 3 on haji all the time so our players were unmarked on the edge of the box.

I saw on another thread that Portsmouth's home form this year is 10-4-4. This is going to be a very tricky game, 3 points here and I will really start to believe. I'd take a point.
Although this year its 2 wins from 5 and they have the 13th best home record in the league. We need to stop shitting our pants and let the team play like the promotion contenders they are.

In another world, KKH and Woolfy are in the starting 11 already. Even a decent enough start, sitting 6th of something, they are both in.

Left back is our weakest position I think. We aren't creating anything from the slot compared to the right. It's been going on for a long time now, coupled with JDS not being the best defensively his asset is supposed to be going forward. It's worth contemplating a change and Bidwell would bring some steel into a tough game. Can he not hack it anymore? I'd be surprised.

JDS is weak; clearly not what we need if we are talking automatics. Along with midfield cover left back is the position most in need of attention. No matter how much JDS improves, it is from a low base and we need better.

That said, one of the neatest moments on Saturday was JDS, in a tight spot, hit a sweet little chip to Grimes over the legs of a Blackburn player to get out of jail. It was the action of a player full of confidence. He didn't just boot it up field (as I might have)

He's got a great first touch, control and some lovely skills.
