Read a bit of the pompey fans posts on their site on the way home.
Apparently they just played crap last night and we aren’t that good.
I think Millwall, Leicester, Wednesday and a few others over the last few weeks all thought the same.
Maybe we are just lucky playing everyone on their bad days.

Any commentator who still considers them a contender isn't worth listening to

We've beaten QPR 7-1, Millwall 4-0, should've beaten Hull and drew against Leicester - all in the top half of the table.

What a ridiculous comment by them.

It's absurd not to back us against any side in this division and come away with 3 points.

In terms of the quality of football Boro are the only ones I’ve seen look comparable.

On the day of course anyone can beat anyone in this league and we’ll lose eventually, probably when fitness bites in the next few months. Still I found the comment pretty bizarre.

I think they'll stay the course. They've recruited well and have a bit of depth.

The data suggests Boro are more fortunate to be where they are from memory. Whereas we are exactly where we deserve to be. There might only be a point between us after tonight but we've been by far and away the best team.

Thing is, next top 6 side we meet is Stoke.
Even if we lose, it doesn't really prove much, we are going to drop points and away at a top 6 side is where its most likely to happen.

That won't detract from how well we've started as far as I'm concerned

I also welcome the other clubs thinking actually we aren’t that good and it’s all a bit of a fluke. Even taking the blinkers off we look the real deal.

Great result. Great night!

Missed quite a few pretty good chances there, probably should have had 5 without being greedy.

Ward did us proud - two pens, one or both given on another day. Foul by simmo on the half way line for the second goal called by Sky, again probably quite fairly. We did get away with a bit.

We've got 3 of the top 4 scorers in the division.
There's definitely better uses of any budget available.

Given Stoke have won one game in 6, it might be the ideal time to play them as long as that form continues.

Boro are overperforming by 6 points according to the xg stats
An xg of 11.1 is pretty mediocre, but they're being saved by their excellent xga of 9.3 (2nd best to our 9.2).

Has John Moushion taken over Steve Evans role ? All sodding night he was bitching at the 4th Official and i think that gets translated to the referee who will probably respond to it by not giving some decisions. As for other teams supporters saying that we have not played anyone in top 6 then i say well we beat them to stop them going into the top 6. I look at past views on teams like Ipswich in their promotion to the Premier League campain! The most common one is "they cant keep it up and will fall away soon" or "thay havent played the top teams yet!"

Sorry I had to do this.....

All these from Lesta's board tonight :-

8 points behind Coventry. A fall-off like no other.

Imagine getting a text from your Father in Law saying “Mind the gap” about this too

Cov will go up with zero pressure from anyone unfortunately!

Coventry will have this wrapped up by March, who will be 2nd?

Coventry by bar the best side in the league. Got goals all over the pitch

Too right, bitches!!

Yeah. I'm mightily resisting digging at my oldest daughter's partner at the mo. He's (and his lad) a Leicester ST holder.
Nice bloke, but absolutely no taste in teams.

Stoke tend to play for single goal victories, a lot of low scoring games. Are they good enough to grind out a 1-0 against a team like ours? I'd say no but anything can happen of course, i keep saying we have to lose some time and we never do

Given there’s 24 teams and we’ve played half after this weekend, have we only played the rubbish half? Who amongst the good half seem better than us?
Letting in that goal last night weirdly felt wrong……..almost like a defeat. I feel very entitled to winning to nil just lately hahaha

I was convinced we’d lose this one as all the classic markers were there…bit of a bogey ground, midweek away, small pitch etc. The Robins team of 21/22 that also started very well went down 5-0 at Luton in similar circumstances.

But no, a very controlled performance where we should have won by more. Lampard has broken so many hoodoos already, but the granddaddy is at PNE in December. Go every year hoping to see us break it…if we do, give us the title on the spot.

I really hope we win on Saturday against Watford because I am now finding that "D" in the Leicester match to be a really annoying blot on our recent form record:

Great trip, went down to the docks then round a few pubs in Southsea - Always one of my favourite trips is Pompey so nice to cap it off with 3 points and put the ghost of last season to rest

Thank god we won cause we hit just about every motorway diversion possible on the way home last night Feeling the effects at work today

Just looking, nearly half of our games (5 from 11) have been against top half teams and we've taking 11 points from 15 with an aggregate score of 14-1!

Some people will always try and belittle the team at the top.

If Ipswich, Lesta or Southampton had our current record, the comments would be very different. But long may it continue that a team already on +23 goal difference is written off as a bunch of chancers

Portsmouth fans saying Chaplin was rubbish. I thought he was their best player for most of the match. Anything dangerous came from him. Just not sure what position he was meant to play
