I think the council bloke even mocked one of them at the time didn't he?
Ken Taylor was leader of the council at the time and mocked Shapiro for 'only' offering £26million, wanting a longer lease on the Ricoh Arena and to develop some spare land to the north of the site.

That's the one.

Imagine that now. No SISU, a massive lease.

SBITC might still be able to get away with it with a name change.
I would doubt it. They are tied to the EFL Trust which is for EFL teams. They would lose that as well as the connection to the football club. Their mission statement is 'Use the reach and appeal of Coventry City Football Club to make a difference to the lives of people across Coventry and Warwick'.

Would like to think they could continue in some form but I don't think it would be easy.

Ah, it just depends if they had the appetite to go solo I guess and still try and get grants.

I do. thanks.

Same to you, your clearly a very genuine cov fan despite being stupidly argumentative, never wrong and always has to have the last word

Perfect example of why being pro CCFC will make people agree and unite to near enough give reacharounds.

Get discussing CCFC with somebody and it's completely different to if you had said "i wont go coz SISU but went wembley".

I'd just like to know who wrote the piece as I'm sure I read something similar last time the tenancy and rent were up for renegotiation.

Free flags!

Being serious I find the response from Wasps supporters very disappointing. For a club that we are told was very close to going out of existence themselves they seem very happy to let their club send us into oblivion.

I think that’s a good point that we could tap into to get some support. If it’s not brinkmanship I really would be up for attending wasps game in my city top and singing songs etc but knowing our fan base they’d fight and run on the pitch

From what I have seen, most of the people being like that have only been fans for a couple of years. Strangely.

Surely the coventry city council can't leave a hedge fund kick our football club out of our home city into non existence or can they?

No they shouldn't, but they have the council tax payers to think of.

The council are having to find ways of saving money because of government cut backs.

Isn't that the reason why the council sold the Ricoh in the first place.

Think the council would be serving the tax payer better by creating conditions that assist the club in getting back in to the Premier League:
  • The total economic value to Wales of Swansea's first season in the Premier League is estimated at £58.6m
  • £50.6m of the economic benefit was generated by Swansea City, safeguarding or creating an estimated 125 jobs
  • The economic impact on the city of Swansea was an estimated £55.3m
  • The non-football club activity generated around £7.9m, creating or safeguarding an estimated 295 jobs, most of them in Swansea

No, the shooter in this case would be wasps. They would be putting a bullet between the eyes of the hostage and people would celebrate it thinking that the parent was dead. Not many would argue if they put the bullet between the hostage takers eyes.

You say you did company law, I've got 8 GCSEs and seem to be a bit more informed in what's going on.

Only grade D”s and E”s though.....

So how much would it cost the tax payer, to create the conditions to assist the club to get back onto the premier league ?
I'd say a good starting point would be ensuring we still have a football club. Phone call to Wasps telling them to stick to what was promised when they were sold the Ricoh would be a good start.

It's not beyond the realms of possibility we could go up again this season. I would say Championship football, or even L1 football as we have now, generates a decent amount for the local economy. Seeing as our cumulative attendance over a season is far higher than Wasps even in the third tier it isn't much of a stretch to imagine we generate more than them for the local economy.

Do you not think the council should be encouraging all local businesses to thrive and generate money for the local economy?

The thing about all this that seems to be escaping some people's notice is that sisu don't give a fuck about CCFC, about the city of Coventry or it's people. They don't care one iota what people think about them
Wasps do, or at least have to appear to. Their plan can't work without the goodwill of the people of Coventry.
That is why it needs to be made blatantly clear to them that any action they take which is detrimental to the football club will not go down well in the city.
That may be unfair, it may be letting sisu off the hook. I couldn't care to be honest as I hate the pair of them. All I want is for the football club to a) survive and b) have a future.
I'd go with that take as long as no-one takes their eyes off who the real culprits are and always have been !

In a perfect world yes , but when money is tight you have to prioritise !
I'm not suggesting they go out and buy us Messi. I'm suggesting they make a few phone calls and get Wasps to uphold their promises made when buying the Ricoh.

It costs the council nothing to put pressure on Wasps to ensure the football clubs continued existence. A football club that generates a lot of money for the local economy. As you say money is tight so surely they would be keen to ensure the money the club generates each year continues for many years to come.

In which case we should all wear wasps shirts(jerseys?)...bring them down from within.

It’s a great letter, tone is right and it’s well written.

Ultimately the question is where do you put the boundaries for the clubs behaviour? Is it right to put the responsibility for failure on the taxpayer and the profits from success with the owners (should they ever come)? It doesn’t sit well with me to allow this pathetic Chinese firewall excuse any weight and give the club a free pass on how they behave.

The point about the covenant is a good one though, though I imagine if it’s written into the lease then they would’ve mentioned it instead of going for the political angle. Regardless it was a promise made and the council should use any weight they have to lean on Wasps if it’s not legally binding. Don’t know what they can do as I don’t know the terms of the lease but they should do everything in their power to keep their promise.

Wasps don't react well to any hint of negative PR. If the council were to come out and say Wasps are breaking the assurances given during the sale process and they will be speaking them to ensure those assurances are met it would have a big impact.

This is a council that would turn your house into a student flat if it had the opportunity

I think it would be pointless and a waste of money.
As of today all sides have now come out with their respective viewpoint and stance on the issue.
They all know they need to talk but it is actions on their individual parts that speak louder.

I say all ‘sides’ have now come out, I am slightly incorrect as the Legal ‘Appellants’ for this whole business have not come out and provided us with their latest viewpoint on the motive for their legal actions and the subsequent knock on effect this is now having on CCFC.

Let’s look at it how it is... most wasps ‘fans’ are not die hard wasps fans, like CCFC fans. They are people who like rugby & maybe went to the odd Cov rugby match, and got pulled in when the Man City of rugby moved to Cov.
The. Equivalent of casual footy people who liked premiership footy and went to the odd city match, but weren’t really interested in anything but the premier league , then had Chelsea or Man City move to the Ricoh... all of a sudden they are season ticket holders at the Ricoh

Wel done liquid gold! At last rather than indulging in the finger pointing an idea of something that tries to seek a solution.
A question and not an accusation; what is the position of the trust and how are they planning to galvanize support for the survival of the club?
Harnessing the supporters clubs and associations and any interested party to bring this brinkmanship to a close is necessary.
I am sure that most will want to go to games to support the team rather than spout bile at the owners so how about giving thought to uniting behind Coventry City football club and put forward ways of engaging with Wasps and seeking solutions?
I want to join/support a group that is guiding the support and has a vision for CCFC rather than another EDL equivalent foaming at the mouth mob.
It will be interesting to see the mood at the Luton game and to see if any of the stay away fans can find a reason to actually come and support the "survival of their club"

There's been a fair few comments deriding the numbers of our home support. Yes, 10,000 doesn't seem very impressive for a city of 330,000, but I think we need a bit of context here.
  • One MAJOR trophy since promotion to the top flight in 67.
  • Perennial struggles in the top division for 34 years.
  • Decades of spectacular mismanagement.
  • A slide down the divisions from 2001-17.
  • Not one top six finish between 1967-2017.
  • A disastrous move to a ground 35 miles away for 2013-14.
  • A pervasive enmity towards the clubs current owners.
When Stoke City were in the top flight, they suddenly had the 'best fans in the world' as they packed out their stadium. Everyone was fawning over their 'fantastic support'. Their attendances in the Championship promotion winning season? Just 16,000. In the preceding seasons, 14-15,000.

Make no mistake, most clubs have fair weather fans. When the sun shines and a club enjoys regular or semi regular success over the years, that builds and consolidates support. We simply haven't had that.

I can't go because I live 3000+ miles away, but given the litany of woe in the last 5 decades, our support isn't bad and I would never criticize it. With success it would grow significantly.

And as someone has said, despite our support being so 'pitiful', as a third tier club struggling with uncertainty, we can still attract higher attendances than our rugby premiership landlords...

Wasps have no interest in the legal action you utter retard

It’s a lie
That's why I would like Sisu to call their bluff. They are in reality never ever going to win this legal battle, so drop the court cases, call Wasps' bluff and see what they say then.

They still persist in being awkward and reluctant to do business and it will turn many people against them. We then start a campaign urging people to boycott Wasps games.
