Err no don't think so mate

We're the only club in the land that has to sell players apparently. Thank god we've got Dave Boddy to sell them for peanuts, otherwise we'd be screwed, I'm sure Burnley would never have heard of O'Hare if it wasn't for Boddy hawking him around.

Maybe, but it's a bit silly if you're an agent to undersell your client's talent as you're supposed to be trying to get the best package for them

Unless the smaller the transfer fee the more the wages and the more the agent fee.

I'm not sure the so called big 3 we refer to is completely accurate. Surely MR and AV have got to be 2 of those 3. So who is the third? Maybe O'Hare, and I seriously don't want him to leave, especially not to another championship club. But as long as MR and AV stay, I don't think the ship will sink.

It's more likely to be Burnley's agent
COH has been great throughout but with the personal terms on offer very few players could resist
It's unlikely that Callum or his agent will be making waves
They could have done after hearing of Fulham's offer but kept quiet
But our club are playing hardball which is great
It shows the risky tactic of giving our most valuable players long contracts last season is paying off

This is just from the top of my head but...

I was speaking to a former Chairman of a PL club last summer and he said something pretty interesting. He mentioned that the industry is actually a lot more collaborative than most would think, in terms of fellow CEOs being more than happy to bounce ideas off each other, especially those in the EFL, and within reason are fairly transparent in terms of sharing the club developments, what they're trying to do to raise income etc.

So first and foremost I'd hope Boddy is building positive relationships with other club CEOs to do just that. I'd look at what clubs are doing and and see how CCFC could replicate or build on the commercial side of things.

I'd also look at how to get more out of our more significant sponsorship deals in order to maximise the sponsor's investment beyond solely just receiving standard advertising benefits. I've spoken to people within Leicester Tigers and a fellow Championship club and they're currently looking at marketing their partners personally or through a local agency as a part of their package by forming more of a brand collaboration and tailoring to their needs in a more bespoke way. It's a great way to attract and retain better sponsors. We definitely don't do this and why I've always opted against advertising with the club.

I'd look at what else can be sponsored and be more creative with it. I notice clubs have individual sponsors for instance Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, and we don't.

I'd create an events calendar. After dinner events, golf days, race days etc. Boddy seemed to initially push those pre-pandemic so I'd like to see that get up and running again as if done properly I think they actually work quite well. A few clubs set up bespoke business networking groups which can be fairly profitable if done right. It also offers the club a great opportunity to source more partners.

I'd also probably look at arranging more contra deals given the club's lack of available budget. I know they've done something similar with Dallas Burston with housing youth players/new signings so I'd probably push that further to mitigate irritating costs. This again boils down to being creative with their offering to ensure that the arrangement is commercially beneficial.

Fisher was right in his recent article there are a plethora of ways clubs are getting creative now to Crawley pushing their own NFT kits, or Peterborough United's new bond scheme. I'd rather we kept it fairly basic for now though and try not to reinvent the wheel as the get rich quick schemes more often than not don't work and if anything is a sure way to agitate fans. People will have their opinions against this but I'd personally keep a close eye on potential Blockchain sponsors. As Crypto becomes more regulated the noise within the industry suggests Blockchain companies will essentially overtake betting companies and would probably pay a decent amount in sponsorship as they're still fairly new to market.

It wasn't the owner directly. It was loaned by MSD Holdings and has a near 10% interest rate attached.

You're right - I'm seeing this with some of the clubs I work with. I've just started working with a L2 club and it's one of their key priorities to look at how things are running on the commercial side of things. A friend of mine has started there recently as Technical Director and we had a chat about the commercial activities they'll be looking at. Sounds exciting for them if it comes off.

One point another person made earlier about investment in staff. There's still many, many companies in the services sector really struggling to employ people. The pandemic and Brexit has really hit the likes of hospitality and other service provision industries quite hard.

A few of his posts have been pretty contradictory as of late. However, there's seemingly a lot of Chinese whispers surrounding O'Hare at the minute though and I'd imagine those probably extend to within the industry as well as there's narratives likely coming from all sides - O'Hare's agent, the club and Burnley.

Potentially what he could be hearing and relaying is very much a combination of rumours, speculation and snippets from the above.

Yeah Covid obviously stopped the events but what I found/find a bit strange was nothing really was planned last season, especially when things began to get back to normal, and like you said I don't recall hearing anything penned in the calendar for this year either.

It's a different dynamic now though. As shown by the end of season awards if the club puts on a decent event it'll be well attended.
