I agree, Haynes and Lamieras should have more time but the other 4 are just dross.

Not a bad call. Clearances with his feet would be f*!#ing immense given the size of his shoes. Is there anything in the rule book that say's you can't pour a bucket of water down your opponents shorts whilst defending a corner tho?

If it means you back at home games then I hope there's no rush!!

I wasn't at the game today and wasn't listening on the radio, but there seems to be a huge amount of negativity and depression about a cup game where we played our reserve team? Did anyone expect our first team out? To be quite honest, I'd already resigned myself to the possibility of getting knocked out at this stage and am quite happy we have no distraction from the league now which is tip priority.

A cup run is always nice, but some people seem to be over the moon that they have their outlet to vent all their negativity through again. Must have pretty miserable lives

Funny how RCC missed a couple of crosses on Tuesday yet no one gave him grief?
Not saying Burge is any good just saying I don't believe had RCC, our player that the score would have differed.
RCC struggled a bit on Tuesday himself funny that when your defence is struggling so does your keeper.

I suggest you look at the ratings thread for Tuesday. Many a poster there marked RCC down and said he had a bit of a dodgy game.

Gutted we lost today giving potential financial rewards but actually, thinking about it, I'm actually not too bothered.

Losing to a lower league team in the cup happens. Not just to us, but every team in the league has suffered it at one point.

We had potentially 9 players out today who would've started...practically a B team.

We're out of all cups...no biggie. We're still top 6 in the league and if we're doing that and not playing amazingly, imagine how we'll do when they start coming back from injury.

Today....no biggie chaps. Yeah we lost, but we're still in the hunt for the main prize.

Now I'm heading for another Grey Goose and Coke. Peace out!

Yep. And a team that on paper should have been good enough to win.

So why would he have done any better today?
Just feel posters are being a bit harsh, we have let in a few goals in the last few games so why pick on burge?
We all knew that we would let in at least a couple just expected to score one more then them.

It's not the end of the world, but does raise concerns about what happens on jan if Liverpool and Newcastle recall Kent and Armstrong.

Newcastle winning away eases the 'bring back AA' campaign up in the north east - so may not have been such a bad day as at first seems. Hopefully secure a lump at centre back, Maddison will soon be returning and all will be rosy in the garden

Yes the Ref was poor but then maybe didn't want to embarrass our penalty taker

Wasn't convinced by the first as it was a bit close, but the second the defender was a good 10 yards away so difficult claim ball to hand, so I was convinced it should have been a pen.

Same as when we lost David McGoldrick. We pick up somebody else who, at first glance, seems grossly inferior but works out just fine i.e. Leon clarke. I trust our manager to go ringing round Premier and Championship clubs to see who we can give a half season run out to. You never know, it could already be sorted or we might have a deal in place to keep Armstrong and Kent to the end of the normal season. Playoffs could be 'interesting' if they both stay as they normally wouldn't be available beyond the last league game.

Why does everyone keep saying if we didn't have Kent and AA" or "what happens when they go back"
They're here. And it's not exactly an accident that they're here is it? If they weren't, other similar players of the same quality would be here. Similarly if they go in Jan Mowbray will replace them. People are mad for a little moan though aren't they

Lol. When you saying replacing mcgoldrick with someone grossly interior you mean 2nd top scorer in the league and someone who had a proven track record of scoring goals in league one?

So I went to my first match in nearly two years today! me and an Arsenal supporting mate went up and I was so dissapointed and thought I'd share some of my thoughts.

1. Fortune offers absolutely nothing as a lone striker. There was no movement whatsoever through the middle for the first 60 minutes before Sambou came on.

2. Sambou looked feisty, he looked like he wanted the ball and generally harried the defence a lot more. Did more in 30 minutes than fortune did in 60.

3. Lameiras has a touch of class about him. He has incredible touch and poise on the ball. He was joint with Murphy for me as our best player and my impartial mate really rated him.

4. Murphy is better than our level.

5. Thomas gets too much stick. Way too much, he in the first half was the only one who attempted to move the ball with urgency. Yes he made a rash tackle for the free kick but that should not have resulted in a goal.

6. Phillips offered very little and didn't look ready for first team football.

7. Haynes offered some impetuous and looked better going forward in the second half than the majority.

7. Burge was nervous and that cost us the two goals. He didn't look comfortable on the pitch and his head dropped after the first goal. Yes that is a mistake on his part, but you see that kind of error at the top level. He has to stay near post in case one of the players gets a touch on it and it sneaks in the far corner as he is flat footed. Forgivable as a mistake.
The second goal however, fucking dire and happened as a result of the first mistake. He was anxious and didn't want to claim anything. Woeful goalkeeping.

8. The central defenders didn't look bad. But didn't inspire great confidence. Just looked average.

9. Stokes was anonymous.

10. The referee was atrocious. Truly awful. I think the odds in the casino were better than the odds of him giving a penalty. 3 good shouts and I thought one was absolute stonewall penalty. Some of his decisions were frankly perplexing. One were Murphy broke through the middle of two defenders, only to be squeezed between the two and tripped. The foul then given against him?!?!

Fair comment Stu. Kent less so as we'd have Maddison to come back. Armstrong is the key. I don't know why but I have feeling we'll tie him up to seasons end. He seems to be enjoying it, Newcastle are picking up points and McLaren is happy with the way TM is developing him.

Fair point though.

I think when we were shit last season there was an acceptance we were shit so no one really moaned about it as much.
Now we're a good league 1 team everything that's not perfect gets jumped on and amplified x100.

I remember the 2-0 away win at Walsall last season and I said that was our best performance of last season, if we put in that performance now the forum would probably go beserk because of the level we've been playing at this season

Maybe it's me then, but I looked at that team and was all but expecting a defeat to be honest. No surprise at all for me that we lost the game.

Vincelot and Armstrong are key to this City side and having to bring Thomas and Fortune in severely weakens the team. Then we had Burge in instead of RCC and he has a lot less command about him and then you have the bench that was incredibly weak and that left us very little leeway in being able to change things.

We lost too many key players from our squad for the game yesterday from Tuesday's game (Cole, Kent, Armstrong, Vincelot, Tudgay, Charles-Cook). It's not just about starting 11's, it's about the squad too and the ability to change things when needed.

I don't think we can be too hard on the team. Burge and Phillips have both been making mistakes, but had to play and Thomas has hardly kicked a ball in anger in months. We also know that Fortune is no goalscorer and that with Armstrong and Tudgay missing we had next to no firepower.

Think when we reflect it is hard to criticise the team too much.

Was it nine first team squad players unavailable (RCC, Willis, Reda, Vincelot, Cole, Maddison, Kent, Armstrong, Tudgay)? How many clubs at this level could absorb that loss of quality?

George Thomas away on loan too, so he would surely have been in ahead of Sambou and Lateef.
