This could be interesting

Is this the dedicated team that Neil was on about or is it the husband and wife team?

Why are CWR getting somebody from Cov Council on and not Warwick Council?

It's almost as if they are lining up to try and push as much negativity as possible?

Hopefully they'll quickly see they're fighting a losing battle. Pretty sure Maton wouldn't have been expecting the response he got to his tweet.

How far from the boundary is it? Hate to piss on people’s chips but it’s my understanding that on developments within a certain buffer the neighbouring council gets to weigh in.

Still doesn't answer why they get CCC on rather than Warwick Council

Is it going to be the same Head of Planning that used " delegated powers " to reject a hotel application right next to the Ricoh? Same person who was going above and beyond to try and get the Higgs sorted for Wasps?

Its quite funny seeing who on social media is annoyed and scrambling at this news and who welcomes it. Sadly you could easily have predicted who would be the ones who seem to not be entirely happy about it.

Maybe Gilbert has another book to announce

Trying to work out the business case from Warwicks end here though, why not just build and operate their own? Bringing in a supermarket makes sense when it’s outside money looking for locations. If Warwick want student housing on their own land there’s nothing stopping them.

I think it’s more that they could use the stadium and there’s sensible links in health and sports that work for both. They have the gold standard football management course there as well don’t they? Lots of reasons to bring in a sports team.

This is what I can’t get - I’m intrigued to see what Warwick uni get out of it

They’re based in Cov and have more Cov connections I’d guess?

Maybe he’s coming on to say he’s found a space in the city centre and wants to offer it for free? Let’s find out.

Was more just something I’d remembered from working on planning applications, especially in London where councils are cheek by jowl that neighbouring councils can chip in on applications outside their boundary, wasn’t a direct response toyour post really.

Getting a say is very different to being the council overseeing the planning application.

I know are media, trust etc aren't very supportive of the club but surely if you get to the point where you've got a viable plan supported by the club, EFL, the uni and the council it comes under (Warwick), any messing around by our council would be called out.

Like when Maton went on and named a site that would be suitable for a stadium that already had new houses all over it?

Exactly, I doubt there would be silly games as they wouldn't want to piss off the uni.

I mean my position has been for a while that any messing about inside Cov would be called out too and that’s why Sisu needed to put an app in and force their hand.

I’d also not expect other councils to view CCC how we on this forum do. There’s more solidarity between councils than you think.

That said, I never thought “council messing” was a serious prospect and still don’t. Just for those that do think that pointing out it’s still possible.

In terms of location, id argue this is even worse than the Ricoh..the transport links around there are overwhelmed already and the public transport is crap so the majority are going to have to go by car. Still, beggers cant be choosers

Genuine worry that the word Warwick will be in the stadium name and the confusion will continue. Can’t count how many acts I’ve seen at the Arts Centre that think they’re in Warwick.

Honest question: if 29k people work/live at the uni, I assume that’s mostly in the week so at weekends/evenings will it really have an impact? As has been said there’s already a lot of plans in place to improve transport links to that area anyway.

Guess it depends on your default position. I can totally understand that if someone bullshits you for six years you might have reason to be cautious about their future promises. I believe the Brothers Grimm write on this topic.

People seem to be jumping on anyone that doesn’t take this as proof positive a stadium is definitely happening, but that’s not really fair. It’s understandable to be sceptical given the history of the project. Same as every time CCC announce a shiny plan for the city centre you’d question it given the debacles with other projects.

I'm not jumping on any one who's sceptical, and I appreciate that may not be aimed at me, but I'm just wondering if anyone's got any reason beyond they always bullshit?

The location is a bit of a masterstroke really. Doesn't come under Cov Council but everyone involved at the council, media etc has always accepted the University as part of the city, particularly when there's any credit to be taken. Pretty hard now to start jumping up and down saying its not in Cov while still trying to take credit for anything else the uni does.

I'm exactly the same mate, it's the linking with the uni in public that makes me think it's the best stadium news we have had in a long long time but I understand people being mistrusting after all the false dawns we have had in the past few years but this does feel different

I mean for me, it’s less that there’s a new reason not to trust them, more than there’s no a new reason to trust them. We’ve been here before and got nowhere so it’s still very early days.

That said I hope it comes off and I think it’s the second best place behind the city centre for a new ground.

I think he means that people have more trust in Warwick Uni.

We haven't really been here before to be fair.

Just a reminder to everyone, if anyone's forgotten, that Warwick University did host the 1970 British Chess Championship, and also are ECF club of the year for 2019.

I also claim an unlikely story of once playing on top board of a Uni side without actually going to the Uni

But Warwick wouldnt be able to stop Sisu from pulling out if that’s the plan, they wouldn’t even be aware of it. Just like the architects and Garlick likely weren’t aware last time was a scam either.

Ultimately it still requires Sisu to want to see their end through. Sisu still haven’t invested anything but PR capital into the project. Until money changes hands really for me we aren’t any closer. Even if this plan sounds a lot more realistic than the last one. Long way to go yet.

If a potential stadium is where I'm thinking (near the sports centre) then that is one of two sites the University have identified for a major parking hub. Their plan is to close the existing car parks around the campus and move to two large car parks on the edge of the site. One would be near the sports centre (basically off the mini roundabout where you go straight on for the arts centre / uni and left for cryfield if you're coming from the A46), the other is off Charter Avenue (could run park and ride to a ground from that one).

They also have an existing park and ride plan they use for things like open days.

I don't think its the huge issue some people want to make it out to be.

Fair enough.
I just don't buy it's a ruse to get us to St.Andrews for 5 years. I think they've got a years goodwill on this before people will expect to see it fleshed out with more than this initial statement

Welcome that to be honest. Much better to have a bit of professionalism and just keep quiet and get on with the job. Any info will likely come from the club and / or uni, the council can just be left to get on with their job.

Still if no-one from the council involved will come on not sure its much help getting someone from another council on instead.

Living not too far away from the Uni I've been pleasantly surprised to see the local face book group, who are usual in uproar about pretty much anything, has been virtually all positive comments so far.

It’s CWR, they probably just want someone to talk about planning implications to fill ten minutes. I doubt they’re planning to quiz on the specifics. What would WCC say? It’ll all depend on the application so all they can do is give general advice.
