Besides G we have the presidential election to look forward to. Would love a charitable wager that Sanders beats Trump if he wins the primary...

Some policies were popular granted, but others were ridiculous, i.e. free broadband.

The Brexit policy was a disaster but to blame this for our defeat is ridiculous considering more people voted for remain parties (Labour, LD, Green SNP) than for the Tories or the Brexit party. Corbyn was a massive, massive issue and the main reason for the defeat. The poll the day after election stating that 43% didn't vote for Labour solely because of Corbyn, whereas only 17% said it was because of Brexit.

The Conservatives beat Labour in every social class. We have a Conservative government today and for at least five years because of Jeremy Corbyn, not because of Brexit. It's a shame his arrogance and those sycophants that surround him trumped everything else.

I never ascribed it to just one thing. But both were influential along with a master charlatan leading the other side

Granted, it wasn't just one issue, the main reason WAS Corbyn. Whether you thought he was a "man of peace" or a racist, the fact is he wasn't trusted and the baggage of his past was always a hindrence.

Of all the times we had to be saddled with Corbyn, it was NOW. That is the most tragic aspect of all. Corbyn had May and Johnson. The most dreadful right wing PMs. A half decent opposition would have wiped the floor with them, would have held them to account. Now, we have Brexit and Johnson. Things really couldn't get much worse.

Oh, RLB. That would be much worse.

The Tories picked Johnson purely as he turned polls around as London major and beat Livingstone

He is like a punch drunk boxer now but still would beat Corbyn every time with one hand tied behind his back

Oh and if I was a Labour strategist I would at all costs remove Mcloskey from any media presence. He’s like a caricature from the 70’s and is a symbol of every reason never to vote Labour - best avoided

Makes no difference. Many think Thatcher fucked up and yet even from a position of negative ratings wiped the floor with Kinnock

THey're going to have to. We need to win 124 more seats at the next election just to get a majority of 1. We need a leader who attracts those middle class voters, plus voters from the Home Counties, etc if we are to get into power. RLB, Burgon, Butler aren't the people to do that. Burgon in particular is an electoral disaster. An ex-Tory voter is going to go for a Long-Bailey/Burgon "dream ticket". This is why I dispair so much at the lack of understanding from the current leadership along with McCluskey, etc. If RLB gets in then the Tories will be in Downing Street for at least another decade.

Starmer is going to get my vote, he always was when the final list of candidates came through. I don’t think RLB is the answer... not as a leader anyway.

I will always be thankful for Corbyn for 2 things. 1) inspiring young people to care about politics again 2) finally setting a clear distinction between Labour and the Tories. It’s a platform that Starmer can adapt and build on.

Does Trump automatically get in as the current president or could the Republicans pick someone else if they wanted to?

Dig a bit deeper, the market's been OK but the situation for most Americans hasn't changed. Plus blowing a massive hole in the deficit. Plus against the most popular senator in the country who has strong appeal in the mid West. Many other reasons to believe he'd lose that fight

Other candidates are free to run against him in a primary but his approval with Republicans is enormous so no point

Sanders has been shooting up in both state and national polls recently but it will effectively hinge on 'Super Tuesday' when tonnes of delegates are up for grabs.

seriously though, I saw these comments recently...I’m no Clinton fan (not by a long stretch) and appreciate there’s no love lost between the pair but bizarre to be so critical when Trumps the alternative ! (if Saunders chosen). Brutal !

Hillary Clinton says 'nobody likes' Bernie Sanders and won't commit to backing him if he's the Democratic nominee - CNNPolitics
