Don't quite get the argument, TGP. Doctor Who gets sold all around the world and is very much a flagship programme for them.
Lots of BBC programmes I don't like such as Call the Midwife and Death in Paradise and EastEnders etc, but you know what, I just don't watch them. I don't complain about my TV licence paying for them.
The last time I saw Dr Who, William Hartnell was the Doctor, fighting off Daleks. Thought it was daft then and still do. :emoji_grin:

More concerned about Chibnall taking over. Not a fan of much of his work on Who / Torchwood.

Disagree, Marty. You have to remember back then it was very much a masculine world and men snared up pretty much all the major parts in anything.
If any character was ever going to b a woman I would say Doctor Who is the perfect choice. We already have a character who can regenerate and become young or old, vibrant or craggy. The Doctor can be pretty much anything or anyone.
I have no problem with it being a woman. Will simply judge her on her performance when the show airs.

Nope, they needed Hartnell to leave, he had early onset dementia.
The original creator, Sydney Newman, tried to get the show runner at the time to cast a woman as the doctor in the 80s.
Its already established in the show that regeneration to a different gender is possible so its not really a problem from that standpoint.

Well I'm really looking forwards to it and if people think it childish I would counter that by saying it is no more childish than Star Wars and in fact, Doctor Who has a lot more social commentary and moral compass about it I reckon.
If anyone thinks it childish I would urge them to watch the episode Amy's Choice. There are a number of excellent episodes to be found, but as I said earlier in the thread I have been a bit disappointed with this last series.
