Long term loyalty membership

With the imminent difficulty of getting away tickets this coming season, the loyalty of fans should be supported. And I'm talking about those of us who were there with meagre attendances watching our boys in Div 2. The points system should stretch back to then for those who've stood by the club and shown devoted loyalty, not just over the past couple of seasons. For my part I've supported our club since a kid, 1965.. but today my work situation and living in London means I don't get to all the games I want to, but my loyalty is absolute and I feel my support and people like me deserve something for long term dedication, which will not falter.

If you've been living away and not been able to build up the points due to that, your only choice is probably buying the away membership scheme. There is no simple solution unfortunately, and whilst away allocations in the PL are generally kept at circa 3k, you may well struggle. Hopefully you can get to cup games, and should we get relegated, there will be a few championship grounds you can get to (Blackburn being one). I've followed City for a similar length of time, but accept because I've missed a few away games, I may not be top of the pile, despite being at Carlisle in 1975.

Current system is fine and with the new ballot system even those on low points who come out of the woodwork complaining when there's a big away day pending shouldn't really have anything to moan about.

I'm one of the supporters who've lost out due to the points system, to give it a bit of context:

Had my first ST in 1978, by the time I was 18 I was going to all the away games, and didn't miss a single one (apart from Newcastle when no away fans were allowed in) in around 20 years. Had an away ST from it's introduction in 2000 all the way up to the move to Sixfields (which I boycotted) as I couldn't have one as I no longer had a home ST.

Stopped going in late 2010's due to a combination of wife/kids/covid and my dad succumbing to cancer (we went to the games together for most of years watching CCFC). I have a ST again now with my oldest son, just renewed for next season.

Now - i'm firmly in the camp of having the points system, I think it's by far the best way of allocating tickets. The supporters who have built up the points should get first dibs, absolutely no question. For people like me that's just bad luck, when circumstances allow me and my lad to get away tickets we'll get them. Fairly sure we'll end up joining the ballot scheme, for my lad more than me, as long as there is a system in place to link the two of us together and get tickets for us both (after all, there's not much point him getting a ticket for an away game and not me).

Enough games have gone down to a low enough points total over the last few years to allow people who were desperate enough to get points to buy them, no good moaning now you don't have enough points. There has to be a cut off time wise for points , and 4 years seems to be a reasonable one to me.

I've said on here before that L2 was fun and it's been a great ride ever since. The ones who deserve the badge in reality are not those of us who watched L2, not even those of us on cold nights away or going to Brum or being part of the massive 375 at home. No, the real badge should be those of us who endured the dross served up throughout our decline into L2, which tbh for about 10 - 15 years until the Checkatrade (arguably without the pre Christmas half season under Mowbray), they were the real darkest of times, wondering if we'd have a club to support, let alone a Premier League team.

With regards to points,difficult to prove records that weren't digital, but would be nice if each season they removed the total that you got something. 4 years is fine, but ive just lost 500 points and replaced with 190. We even bought ST's during the covid year to help out when we didn't need to (1 would've got the tv pass but all 3 renewed). Bar Northampton I've had a ST for 40 years. Luckier than most that it's been possible I'd agree but if there were eg 10 points for each of the past 10 seasons or something it would be nice recognition.

Doug did say at the secret online meeting of the 3500 that he was considering, if we agreed, to end that so that he could give decent concessions to U18's.

We all said "fuck the kids ", (with suspicious enthusiasm by Father O'Toole).

The points system was bought in a few years ago - that was the start, plain and simple.
The argument of a closed shop is ridiculous - lots of games over the past few years have gone to general sale, including the opportunity to get points in league cup games. But people don’t want to go to the lies of Cardiff away on New Year’s Day as it’s not attractive.
The simple fact is that we have had a prolonged period of success, this breeds new and returning support which is great.
but also with that comes a sense of entitlement- “I wad a season ticket between …..”
The ones who were with the club when the points system was introduced and therefore went down and up the leagues again deserve the priority
People need to stop thinking of ways to gatecrash - ideas such as points gained for shop purchases is ridiculous

And for the record I’m on 2400 points.

I agree. There is a guy on here that used to do a spreadsheet which showed the amount of games that went to general sale or a lower points total. It proved it wasn't a closed shop. Even Derby away, first away game of last season, went down to about 900 points.

Exactly this. The main bulk of the initial points and point where it started, was for those of us that purchased a ST to a season we all knew full well we would never get the chamce to actually use, for a ground that wasnt even in our own city. It was ST Andrews where the points system dated back to, and started when away games started to become more popular.

Like you say, i never had an issue getting a ticket in L2 for Carlisle away on (if memory serves me right it wasnt NYD that season) 2nd Jan. So why should people that couldnt be bothered to go then, have points matching mine and go ahead of me now we're playing Chelsea and Man City away?

* And for the record, i dont actually have a ST anymore. I lost my job and moved to Yorkshire 3 years back so couldnt afford or commit to one. So im now way down the pecking order and will probably not get to an away game this season. But I dont want to queue jump ahead of others that have put the miles and effort in.
