Yes, maybe he thought it was a quicker way out. I don't know. By the time he had turned and seen the crowd he was stuck there with no way out.

Its road rage pure and simple. He even looks to be aiming for people as he drives

If any of us had 40 or 50 angry blokes smashing your car windows whilst you were in it I'm not sure how we would react. M aybe it was panic.
Time will tell.
I would have thought that being an ex marine he would have had some clarity of thought though.

The driver hasn't been charged with any drink or drug offences. Is it possible that he has genuinely taken a wrong turn and got caught in a crowd that has turned very hostile very quickly and panicked when his car was attached thus causing the injuries to people?
He clearly hasn't gone down the road at high speed like some of the Christmas market attacks that have been publicised in the past ie 40-50mph.
I'm sure the evidence at the trial will come out and confirm his state of mind before and during the incident and might give a little more clarity on the events.

I don't think he got in the car that day with the intention of mowing people down like some attacks we have seen.

But once he was amongst the crowd he clearly lost it and was intent on running people over, it doesn't look like panic to me.

I completely agree with you other than he wasn’t going 40-50mph.
his actions require a stiff sanction and prison time but I think what you have outlined is what I think happened

He's very lucky nobody died (yet). If they do, then I don't think he'd see the light of day again as it sets a dangerous precedent. Whatever the circumstances and justification, there will be outrage with any sentence whatever length. I'd be amazed if it was less than 15 years and probably with a minimum 8 to serve, even with everyone recovering.

I don’t see any world where he gets a whole life tariff. Assuming they don’t uncover some evidence that this was all premeditated - and it certainly doesn’t seem that way so far.

I’m not sure how much this had to do with it, but if you seriously believe the papers weren’t actively trying to source other useable photos of the guy, or were only using the school photo because they wanted to portray him as an innocent kid then you need to lay off the conspiracy theories.

I was referring to posts celebrating his ethnicity rather than thinking about the victims. And that in my mind is equal as race bating from the racists. White, black, Asian, shouldn't matter, it should be about the victims first second and last!

It’s a discussion forum. I think it’s perfectly reasonable for people to talk about things like this without it just being all ‘thoughts and prayers’. To draw an equivalence between people who don’t do that, and out-and-out racists, is quite odd imo.

He kept going, even when there were people on the ground under his car. It was deliberate, for my money, even if he was having some form of "episode". But why was he arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit through drugs (quite specifically) if he isn't charged with that?

Again spectacularly and intentionally missing the point.

My post was in reference to Pete's on page 1 'Always the brits'. He was trying to be funny about the racists on X or other SM. Not only was it not the time only a couple of hours after the incident, but the fact that someone can revel in the fact it's not someone of the ethnicity that will bait the mouth frothers, is nothing to celebrate or try to win a few likes from. Imo it was ill-judged and unnecessary. Agree it's not all 'thoughts and prayers' and I think you've seen enough of my posting history to know that's not me either, but there is a balance about respect and I deemed his post provoking.

The sad reality is that all of these sorts of attacks, including religious extremism, are caused by mental health issues to differing degrees.

As if any of that provides an excuse! I am very surprised by the rolling back on the scale and severity of the charges compared to the arrests cited above.

You do know how suspicion and charging are two different things?

I imagine he wasn't in the most calm state so they probably suspected that and tests proved otherwise.

Looking at the charges there's dangerous driving across a number of streets, including the one he lives on. My assumption would have to be that hes gone on some wild tear through the city for whatever reason and ended up in the middle of that parade. We'll find out when it goes to trial, it does seem like a very odd set of events though.

If it’s classed as terrorism; life without parole

If it’s a driving offence: six month ban, six points and a pedestrian awareness course.

Someone hit pedestrians in Leicester with car now. All been at an event together, so this one more targeted, but seems to be the cowards current weapon of choice. Never heard of until a few years back, but now seems a regular occurrence.

Easy weapon to use, effective for mass casualties and hard to stop/police. Like you say though, cowardly. Have a scrap with who you've fallen out with.

Can only assume it's "a man" because there's not 1m people in the area?

Obviously the "scousers" of Twitter have cancelled and tried "going after" a comedian.

He is also not a comedian. Well, not in the conventional sense of the term, where someone makes you laugh. He tried his hand at it for a while, using his silly Estuarine whine reminiscent of Andy Parsons off Mock the Week, but now seems to have adopted right-wing politics and "citizen journalism" as his access to fame and fortune. The true mark of a c*nt!

Didn't he say something like "black players can't take penalties?" And then added the white players scored (after a game, I think that was after our Euro championship exit)
