Hardly blind hope to think that individual errors AND a lack of killer instinct in front of goal will not continue for a prolonged period. The underlying numbers are still OK.
Hull’s underlying numbers should be seeing them relegated

Not to worry, I get the idea with your inevitable win over us in 3 games, it will help kick-start your momentum and belief a little more again which will ultimately help your cause. We may actually drop a few points in the next 3 as we play your downfall, then Ipswich's downfall, then you guys at the CBS, so that gap could still well be there and quite possibly increased; from you to us at least. Your home game against Oxford helps too.

We're just far more focused on the games we can win, which ruling out the match against you (and Bristol City of course, despite them being utterly clueless tonight!) we'd stand a good chance of winning each one, though inevitably we won't.

Of far greater interest to us as it's less cut and dried is the 18th April when we travel to Ipswich of course. They're formidable at home, we're pretty decent away and I'd like to think surely all our injured players who haven't been de-registered as our physios just give up on them may finally be back by then.

Plus starting the league since Hellberg came (so last 12 games form) we'd be top, which means whether they've had a hell of a good run or not, we've outperformed Ipswich under his tenure.

We got worse when our reputed two best players came back to the fold. One couldn’t score to save his life for umpteen games and the other demands the ball all game , loses it and leaves holes all over the midfield. BTA was a big loss too but now the clown is out again.
Thus far in the window we’ve recruited 3 wingers, when one would have been sufficient to go with a midfielder and possibly a new forward for me. If I was real greedy I’d have liked to see a new left back too.
Maybe we can start playing again today 🙏

This club is nothjng but a tease. 25 years of mainly pain and crap. 3 years of heartbreak in recent years, and now we get teased with a huge lead at the top and throw that away. But at least we can make the rest of the country happy now that were so rooting for our failure

Well done if youre still positive. Fair play to ya

I'm remaining positive. We only need a point a game to make the play offs!

i see us top of the league in both

everyone in december was saying “let’s see where we are come january shall we”

end of Jan we are top of the league and everyone’s still moaning

it will become a self fulfilling prophecy if we aren’t careful. Need to believe
In what? We have been awful for 7/8 weeks.

Adding Armstrong and Sarmiento to their first XI makes it closer for me, along with having the best CM in the league in Hackney. The difference between the sides in a few weeks won't be ability though, it'll be confidence and energy. They just have much more of it plus a manager willing to adapt to what's in front of him.
I mean they didn't sign Armstrong but Sarmiento has contributed 0 goals and 0 assists.

The difference between the sides in a few weeks was indeed confidence and energy, and a manager willing to adapt to what was in front of him. Just not the way you thought.

That's how it looked at the time, it's now flipped around.

Having read this thread through again I thought it would be interesting compare the results of the first half of the season with the second half. Obviously it would be better to do this at the end of the season, so I have taken games 1 to 20 and compared them with results from games 21 to 40.
Game 20 was on 9th December against Preston.

Games 1 to 20
won 13
points 44
scored 51
conceded 22

Games 21 to 40
won 12
points 39
scored 32
conceded 20

Those 2 runs of games were very similar, we scored less goals in games 21 to 40 but that was to be expected with 7-1, 3-5, 0-5, 0-4 scores early on. So the "blip" resulted in 5 points fewer, when compared to the first 20 games.

But 'the blip' in our away form has been negated by a really good run from late February onwards which is included in the 21 - 40 figures.

That doesn't meant 'the blip' didn't happen or was exaggerated, it just means we've put a run of great form together and made up the ground we lost.

We've also dropped more home points in the 2nd group of fixtures which levels things up slightly, 8 dropped compared to 4 in the 1 - 20 section.

I didn't say the "blip" didn't happen, but the thread was questioning whether it was a blip or a blowout. Interestingly, looking at the bigger picture regarding our away form, we have won 10 of our 20 away games and are 1 point worse off than Millwall who are top of the away form table.

Our home form never really changed and we were getting a lot of injuries and illness - look at the bench vs Birmingham and last night

But the issue was that our away form fell off a cliff for two months
As mentioned, we've dropped 12 points at home, if we'd done that by losing 4 on the trot at home there would have been a similar reaction, but as weve lost points sporadically it wasnt an issue for most, (there were a few overeacting, in my opinion, to the Oxford draw).

And as stated throughout this thread, its clear Lampard was seeing what some of us were seeing which is why we signed Onyeka. I think I may be right in saying we haven't dropped points away since he signed

I admit , i shit the bed with the mid season form , spoke to my old man yesterday just said i felt a sense of desperation during that period that i was desperate for us not to fuck it up and it just felt like it was slipping away .

I really never had enough faith in lampard to sort it ( dont know why )

Its a long season full of ups and downs but apart from that period weve been pretty sensational

Well thinking we were going to blow it will make it all the sweeter when we finally make it!
