Nor me, but reading back, there did seem to be some sort of contagious mass hysteria last night because we didn't sign anyone! I assume a signing broadly follows this -

Identify a player
Approach
Negotiate
Agree deal

Everyone loves a new signing, but what player that we wanted would be a) good enough and b) happy to be back up for O'Hare?

Of course not, he's injury prone, on big money & never proved himself at this level but if he's:
A) A former player or
B) "From Cov"
Then our fans will always say we've missed out somehow.

I’d love to have him back but like you said Nick-just not proved in this league. Loan to Hull ideal-he needs matches and he needs a run of games injury free.

He wouldn’t be guaranteed that here.

I also would have accepted "scored 20 goals in the Scottish Championship" or "ran really fast against Solihull U23s".

It's obviously a good thing. But do you honestly believe that any received definitive interest from clubs? If they had I'd wager a sale would've probably been made.

It's not like we were swatting away bids left, right and centre. Unless you naively believe Boddy's narrative.

Congratulating the club on not farming out players in the January window is an odd position to take.

I’m not congratulating them I’m asking someone whether it’s a good thing
I honestly believe interest was received but no offer anywhere near what we’d need to replace
I also believe that the model shmmee referred of buying cheap, developing and selling and reinvesting is in need of a rethink to progress from where we have got to

At best the interest received would've been enquiries. I refuse to believe any bids were formally submitted. Strange how other bids were reported in the Championship yet ours managed to be kept under lock and key?

All well and good saying it needs a rethink but what's the alternative? It's the only real way we generate significant income. The only way to overcome the obstacles that have arisen in the last couple of years with regards to the model - lower divisions of European market being closed off, EFL market subsequently becoming even more inflated etc etc. - is more owner investment which isn't going to happen.

We need to go back to the model we had when Sisu took over which means buying the best young L1 talent really. Which you won’t do for nothing. We should be looking at the likes of Twine and Sykes in L1 to move us forward but they won’t come for free.

The market has completely changed though since we were last able to do that. You can't get prime L1 talent for £1-2m anymore really. The asking price has now doubled, even tripled in some cases.

And it's your kind of post that I don't understand. There's always a ceiling and at some point the progress will come to a grinding halt. We're simply not going to continually improve season after season. That POV is unrealistic and completely unsustainable. All it takes is one bad window and the house of cards will come crumbling down.

At some point the bubble will pop.

Why are you ignoring the evidence of the last 5 years?
It’s a fair question to ask what’s different from 5 years ago when fisher said we couldn’t sustain a championship club

Or to make more money from other sources. We won’t be getting investment that isn’t a loan from the owner I don’t think. Let’s just give up eh

Tell Dave there’s no point
Tell mark he should leave
Tell the players we can’t compete
Tell the fans not to bother
Ffs let’s get behind the ckubv

How am I ignoring evidence? You can't honestly think we're going to continuously improve in this league season after season with one of the smallest budgets in the league?

And so has the return. Maddison went for £2.5m and was sold for £22.5m. Wilson £3.3m to £20m. Konza £2.5m to £12m.

And only 5 players have ever gone for £6m or more from L1, only one in the last 5 years. And that was a 27 yo Sunderland player they’d bought for £10m.

We got behind the club in record numbers only to be told that actually, sorry, it won't make any difference to the budget this year, we had unforeseen costs.

Am I allowed to argue that someone perhaps should have done a better job of foreseeing them?

Yeah and as a strategy it's all well and good, but SISU aren't ever going to inject that kind of cash into the club so it's irrelevant. I've already said this to Sky Blue Pete.

I did say tripled in some cases....

We’ve shown decent returns from Prem castoffs for about £1m which is good business. I just think generally a player is more likely to get to Prem level coming up than bouncing back from being released so if your strategy is to sustain the club on player sales then you need to accept the cost of stock has gone up.

The budget will increase year on year but not ever enough to give us a top 6 budget.
Are you thinking there’s a rich fan that is willing to gift £15m a year for no return? If you know their name get them in touch with Ms Seppala

We aren’t anything like £15m a year from a decent squad. More like £2-3m

How will it increase year on year Pete? Attendances are unlikely to increase, nor is commercial revenue. So again I ask please enlighten me on how the budget will increase without further investment from SISU which is only likely to damage the club??

No I'm not you've plucked that out of thin air as you have with your other ridiculous points.

I don't disagree with the strategy I think it makes sense. That being said there are obvious road blocks - mainly from an owner who's mindset has changed completely compared to the last time we were in the Championship.

The next time you meet “Dave” could you ask what clubs these bids were from as they have not been reported by anyone else?

Despite other 'significant bids' received by Championship clubs being heavily reported in the media throughout the window.
