I have found myself at many crossroads in life, done things I regret, found myself in the depths of despair, and wondered if I could go on.
But I've never been so low that I've found myself in a designer outlet centre in Swindon

Well, it has Ralph Lauren, Hugo Boss, John Lewis, Fossil, Nike, Calvin Klein and Lacoste shop apparently.

I bet a lot of people from Bristol and surrounding areas go. Just like how people from Coventry go to Bicester..

On Bicester - find it amazing that it attracts more Chinese tourists than Buckingham palace

Might be worth contacting the BID people about this idea, Daz. Best i've heard by a long way.

BID will just tell you to contact IKEA as they own the building and have a 999 year lease on the land

Its a bit of a Swedish Elephant as the Orchards people wouldnt be too keen on a another shopping centre - the biggest thing anyone can do is make parking cheaper and easier so that folks are encouraged to come to the city centre

I've come up with a solution.

Turn it into a massive legalised brothel. Women can drop their men off their while they go shopping. Sex workers are off the streets which will decrease some social issues and tourism will boom. You could even put a few cannabis cafes in there and call it little Amsterdam.

Forgive but I don't see shopping as a cultural event

Fair enough, but what is culture? Part of it is surely what people do with their time and nowadays a lot of people spend a great deal of time shopping. More so than theatre, museums, galleries etc. Watching YouTube videos and almost constantly staring at your phone will in the fullness of time be seen as part of our 'culture' at this point in time.

For some certain shops/brands are the equivalent of their church.

Being cleared out.

Won't be reopened it seems.

Was never much chance of a clearance sale anyway. Easy enough to just redistribute the stock to other stores.

Need to get something done with that site pretty quickly. Won’t give a good impression if the first thing visitors to the city centre see is a huge empty building.

Yeah. get something decent in there to give them false hope of a decent shopping experience before they hit TJ Hughes and the pound shop

We did, but this is much earlier than planned. Rest of their stores reopening in the coming weeks.
