Just seen that it's closing in the summer.

What a waste of time building that was. It's going to be quite hard to fill that unless it is divided into loads of smaller shops.

In a nutshell, not enough people shopped there.

How busy do they expect it to be? Regularly causes huge traffic jams back onto the ring road so unless they start getting people in by helicopter how are they expecting to increase numbers?

Although maybe that’s the problem. The city centre traffic management is so bad these days there’s constant jams. Are people now avoiding going in unless absolutely necessary.

It wasn't ideal when it was busy as you would be queuing right up to the roundabout.

Will be back to the Birmingham one if IKEA is needed!

Is the site big enough for a new stadium?

Bit of a blow that. We go there quite often, was there on Sunday getting a few bits and pieces.

It will be a big blow to Coventry too and the city centre. The timing isn't great either what with the city of culture thing. The City centre will be even more of a ghost town.

Probably the only place in the place in the city people travel to from outside of Coventry. Big blow this.

    bad news for the city.
From a personal point of few place makes me claustrophobic and fuck knows how you'd ever get out of there if there was an emergency.
Once got trapped in an aisle while buying some desert plates between two groups of loud, hyperactive Japanese tourists taking photos of fuck knows what. Place is a living hell.

Yes, when we were in the on Saturday, there were quite a few Brummy families there. It's always packed with students too, kitting out their flats, etc. A massive blow to the city this.

The cafe bit did my head in. There were literally people running businesses from there with their laptops and having meetings etc.

Will miss the meatballs and chips though :(

    A bit different.

Going to IKEA for some furniture is slightly different than your usual everyday shop. IKEA was a reason to venture into the City Centre for many who wouldn't otherwise.

Can't see many retailers wanting to take that place over. Feel sorry for those losing their jobs, of course. Wonder if the University will find some use for the building?

Weirdly enough we were on the top floor in there when there was a fire and my Mrs who was 36 weeks pregnant at the time had to evacuate using the stairs. Great laugh.

If a company like IKEA struggle to maintain the building whilst operating a business then I can't see how anybody else will be able to use the building efficiently. Such a big blow for the city this.

Only multi storey. 3D football anyone?

Fuck the SkyDome off level the lot and have a combined football and ice hockey stadium

Sadly life isn’t like Sim City

I am convinced that a stadium in the city centre is the right solution to both CCFC and CCCs problems though.

We live in Rugby and got sick of queuing to get into the car park. Now we drive past and go to the one in Wednesbury.
It'll be converted into student accommodation.

Surely driving to Wednesbury takes longer than queuing to get into the Coventry store?

Much easier to order online and get it delivered then to physically shop for the stuff. Changing shopping habits.

Which is why we need non Retail attractions in the city centre. Like a football stadium.

Have you never played Sim City?

You can just break out the bulldozer and slap a stadium down. None of this pesky private tenants with rights or commercial viability nonsense.
