Didn't someone write that he plays off the left wing cutting in? In which case, why not try:

------------------Godden-----------
Simms--------------------------------Sakamoto

Then we get Sakamoto in too!

Even if it's so we can see Sakas' party trick - that little drop of the shoulder and skin the defender that he does at least once every time he plays...and even though we all know he's going to do it, it still seems to work! Beautiful

He had a 17 game spell at Sunderland (7 goals) that has influenced everyone's opinion of him, the reality is he's a poor footballer.

If you look at Mark McNulty and judge him on 5 months here, he'd be world class, but the reality is he's failed everywhere else. My biggest fear is that Simms isn't a good striker and we've pissed money up the wall.

Im more concerned about Wright. £3m ish for a 22yo Prem kid is about the going rate. van Ewijk will pay for them both. £7.7m on a 25 year old and you expect them to hit the ground running and show their value if not immediately then pretty quickly.

Go and watch his performance against Exeter, (yes it was a meaningless friendly that meant fuck all) he was shite, and he hasn't improved, he went from first choice to third choice out of three in less that 4 games, if we can bring in another striker in Jan, then he doesn't make the bench when everyone is fit.

Just in the previous game you pretty much said that’s what he was doing.

Yes, I'm concerned about Wright too.
I think he's better than Simms (just) but he's nowhere neat good enough for this league.
You could argue that Simms is still young and can learn to improve I guess, but Wright is a big concern.

Wright and Simms. What is it? 11 goals in total and 1 goal. It isn’t good enough for £15 million committed.

Im hoping he’s in an adjustment period. I’ve just also got worries whenever a manager wants to “smooth the rough edges” on an unpredictable and pacy forward.

We won't throw away what we have paid for him, we'll work to integrate and improve him. He is struggling with a big fee expectation and settling into a rebuilt squad, but he's young and we will give him time-we HAVE to after what we spent. I agree it doesn't look good now, but neither does Wright.

I do see your reasoning but the midfield is concerning me considerably more along with Robins not trusting Sakamoto enough to put him on the pitch when we’re crying out for some energy.

His subs blew 3 points against Lesta and a further 2 this evening.

I get that, but the lack of impact from Simms and Wright is a massive issue.
I'm not talking about goals (or lack of them)
I'm concerned about a lack of general quality and work rate.

If they were playing well and working hard but not scoring I'd be happy and be patient etc, but I've seen nothing to suggest they are capable at this level, which is a big concern.

The problem is that we have signed too many players to integrate at the same time. And too many talented, young players.

There is no way Robins can hope to field them at the same time

Let’s revisit this at the end of the season rather than not even 2 months in.

Agree, I think when this is addressed, things will link better, and it's then we will see what our strikers can do. It feels like they are having to drop quite deep at the moment to compensate, which was ok for Vik but we have different style strikers now meaning the midfield need to plug the gap and bring the ball up the pitch more.

I think changes will be made in January, if not our lack of goals will end our play off hopes very prematurely.

They look a bit lost, which I would put down to being new signings with big fee expectation. Simms in particular looks very worried and Wright is starting to. I think sometimes what looks like "lack of workrate" is being a yard off the pace due to these things rather than lazyness. You know what it's like, if you have ever played sport: if you're doing well you buzz about, when it's going wrong, more things go wrong and get on top of you. They both look like strikers that need confidence. Too earlier to right off, but fair enough to be concerned.

We're not creating enough either.

I fear that our ability to make changes will be limited.
the club made a statement of intent in spending £15 million on Wright and Simms.

You shat on my post about playing more direct, but do you not think that Wright from his Turkish league highlights looks like a man who likes to play at a much quicker tempo? Please no turds.

Perhaps it’s just me who thinks so, but a lot of his play reminds me of O’Hare. We knew Palmer wasn’t fit, we put him on anyway when there was a perfectly decent alternative and Ayari didn’t seem to be flagging either.

To see out the result it needed Godden taking off for Saka.

One thing you will get from Tatsu is high-energy pressing (and given time, stepover!)

You get more than enough to justify bringing him on when the midfield is clearly flagging. Palmer looked knackered but as I said earlier it’s like the manager would have made these changes anyway and at the same time.

I think he doesn't quite see him as an AMC, as he is normally a wide player. I think he's holding him back too much due to the language barrier too, giving him time to settle-sod that, we've seen already that he speaks/understands enough English to make an impact.

Correct on the first point, just from what I’ve seen he’s got the attributes you need for a high pressing skilful AM.

Just about enough from-Swansea, was it? to suggest he can adapt. If he plays that role though I want us getting him in wide positions when we can.

Playing Godden as a lone striker is one of the most batshit mental posts I've seen on here in a while. And there's plenty of competition.

My first game this season.
A step up in quality overall in team over last year in first half. Off course we miss Vik and Gus who are both absolutely brilliant players who have funded uplift. However looks a big mistake not to at least try an get someone to replace Gus to an extent. Forward opinions don't look very encouraging.
After 55-60 minutes, quite concerning the energy levels.
Very unimpressed by Simms and Wright was just OK. Godden is a limited player who like last year has to play because of the other striker options.
I fear the overall better squad will be undone by limited midfield creativity and ineffective forwards.

Did Binks get booked for the incident where he looked to take a swing at their player? If not I’d imagine a ban is incoming.

Let's not go too mad, aside from not stopping a ball into the box we were on for an excellent win away from home.

My view on Palmer has been expressed and his defensive limitations shown.

We're a good side not far from being a very good one.

Just got back after another shitty journey home. I swear we're cursed for traffic on evening kick offs, seems to be a pain in the backside with road closures everywhere we go.

Edit: suppose I should add some views on the game too lol. Largely ineffective never really looked like getting a second. Tbh I called it at 1nil to remove Godden and throw Kitchen on, could have pushed Joel into another DM and held it. All the front 3 rvery poor Godden makes intelligent runs but has no pace, Wright's first touch was abysmal and Simms added nothing. Definitely a payer in Ayari vut has zero positional sense and imagine he'll leave a much better player for Brightons benefit but we can't afford to over use him yet. Defensively a few errors too, hoped we'd get away with it but didn't. Kelly continues to surprise me after about the third season I've written him off. Fadz probably pick of the bunch again would've been Milan but gave some silly fouls late on and doesn't get back enough, although that's modern wing backs I guess. Like Da Silva more each time, think he'll be Mr consistent.
