They don't have to make many, but it's the impact, if Eccles hadn't have been booked, then no complaints, but he was and so should have been Hirst

I'm not disagreeing with that. But it doesn't necessarily impact on the result. Fans cling on to this notion the end result would always be different is untested .

Well obviously it does, who knows what Would have happened, he could have given him a second yellow and Ipswich may have won 5-0, but at least the referee would have been consistent in his decision making

It's a bit of a strange take, isn't it? Would Ipswich still have gone on to win 3-0 with ten men for about an hour of the game?
Whether our 11 should have done better against their 11 is another argument altogether.

Eccles was booked for shanking a shot over after the whistle so yes Hirst should have been sent off by the parameters the referee had set.

As Oggy said, if he doesn’t give Eccles a yellow, there’s not much to moan about. He did, which makes it look shambolic when he doesn’t call the second incident.

It was a poor decision but ultimately we didnt get it and we just werent good enough

We weren't poor first half. Why not blame the ref? He booked Eccles, then didn't book Hurst? Later booked another Ipswich player. They all did the same thing, he bottled it. Even Ipswich fans are posting the same, in their forum.

He kicked it away, after being called offside. He knew ,as well. Wasn't like he hadn't heard the whistle

It most certainly impacted the game as he wouldn't of been on the pitch to score the crucial second goal.At one nil with ten men they would of sat in and defended the lead. But games finished and we lost its how we react lose at Preston and it could be the start of a spiral the wrong way.

I will also point out that their centre mid committed 4 fouls inside the first 15-30 minutes the last one a certain yellow on Eccles when he got nowhere near the ball. 5-10 minutes later Grimes slid in, got the ball and was booked for his first real challenge of any note.
We then had our 2 midfielders on bookings for the rest of the match. That has an impact on how we play.
On top of the non booking for their midfielder, Hirst, their keepers deliberate hamdball, etc etc.
It wasnt just one bad decision we got. He was at it all game and affected our game and game plan and ultimately the result was influenced by him in a number of ways.

Consistency is king I think often hard because things happen that are slightly different

He was happy to book their players when he had to.But there was no way he was ever going to send one of them off.
The annoying part was knowing he would give Eccles or Grimes a second yellow without a thought.

Let's say two players do exactly the same infringements - one a foul, the other kicking the ball away.

First player does the foul first, gets booked, then later on kicks the ball away. Doesn't get a second yellow because it's not 'serious' enough to see them sent off.

Second player kicks the ball away first, gets booked, then commits the foul and gets a second yellow because it is serious enough to send them off.

Absolute nonsense. It's either a booking or it isn't. Whether it's their second or not should play not part in the decision.

It wasn't just the kicking the ball away either, he killed the game at every opportunity so it was much harder to get momentum.

Example is the free kick against EMC for no reason before their 1st goal.
