How’s the ref explain that! (7 Viewers)

Yes, the ref cocked up, but we shouldn’t be looking for a one man advantage to win. It was one of those games. Their keeper made 2 excellent saves. Rushworth didn’t. It’s been the other way round in quite a few games this season. onwards and upwards.

What crowd noise? Didn’t he stop then kick the ball?
Of course he heard the whistle. He shot was then one out of frustration, lashing at it. I can't believe some are saying the referee didn't influence the game. Obviously the Hirst 2nd yellow (his first was a horrible challenge on Bobby Thomas) being the big one, but then the booking for Grimes. It was a foul (his first of the game, may I add) but it wasn't a yellow card. So Eccles and Grimes on yellows as our CM pairing after 30 mins. Also the Mason-Clark free kick (awarded against him) which led to their first goal. I think it was the other way round.

Yeah he wasn’t great but they played us well and the reserves/unfit players we had to carry was too much.

Whilst I do not necessarily disagree, but could an argument not be made that the referee's failure to send off Hirst gave Ipswich the advantage, instead of giving us the advantage we should have had were the rules applied consistently?

As I keep saying, the referee set the standard, at the request of Ipswich players, who appealed for Eccles to be booked, that he would book players who kicked the ball away. Expectation of the referee applying the rules consistently was broken, and this clearly has a mental impact.

And yes players are professionals but they are also humans and it's surely no coincidence that the game shifted after that moment, along with yet another wrong decision that directly lead to their opener.

Seen a lot of Ipswich fans say Hirst didn't hear the whistle due to crowd noise
Same could apply to Eccles then

Yes he did you can see him stop and then kick the ball away, Hirst that is.

Ipswich Advantage? well, not much has affected our team this season, so probably not. 11 v 11 we still could have won. We just didn't. It's gone our way in a lot of games this season (eg missed tap in for Middlesboro to go 3-2). Cant complain when it doesnt go our way. And yes, the ref was useless and it was a clear booking for their man.

Their opener? I assume you mean the "foul" he gave against Mason-Clark? Did you see how many passages of play went by after the free kick was taken? We should have done better, defence was all over the place.

Unfortunately, shit refs are part and parcel of the game in the EFL. We just have to get on with it, and win regardless. ;)
