How’s the ref explain that! (17 Viewers)

The ref bottled it and it’s cost us the game. It epitomises just how frustrated fans are with the game.

Two like for like incidents refereed completely different. A yellow card offence still warrants a yellow card whether or not they’ve had their first card.

Strong reaction on Tuesday please!

Just look at Anthony Taylor in Leeds-Liverpool. Have to rely on VAR to reverse an absolute stonewall penalty.

Clueless twats, the lot of 'em.

I believe we lost the game because Ipswich scored so late in the half we had no time to equalise whilst we had the momentum. Just watching Leeds v Liverpool which explains my opinion quite nicely

If Preston are on the attack in midweek, is Rushworth allowed to come out and juggle the ball to stop them?

Or is it just Ipswich allowed to do that?

I had visitors around so not fully focussed. Are we saying Hurst should have been off for dragging shot wide after he was whistle offside? Or did he blatantly kick ball away another time?

Eccles was booked for shanking a shot over after the whistle so yes Hirst should have been sent off by the parameters the referee had set.

Ah ok. Don't like to see players sent off for that. Silly rule.

I get that it's got to be fair but I'm with lampard. It's wrong but at same time not something you wanna see so not something that will keep me up at night.

He thought About leaving it but simms would have had the ball then and would have been able to get a shot off so grabbed it.
Red card again. And they should have been down to 9 men then.
I didn’t see the incident itself in truth, all I heard was the Mrs saying the “keepers handled it outside the box” but when I’ve got in, I’ve only seen Eccles setting up a free kick on the left hand side.

Frustrating if it was a clear an obvious scoring chance that the keeper prevented, but given it’s not been mentioned to Frank during the post match presser suggests that maybe City or CWR at the least, they don’t see that as a big contentious moment.

I don't think we should ignore the fact a good couple of Ipswich players asked for it too. Think the referee only gave the booking because they asked

Obviously it's down to the referee, but I don't think Ipswich could have argued because they absolutely asked for that to be the standard too.

That was the worst decision of the season by a mile.

Things like the MVE non-penalty, as bad as they are, I can understand because of the pace of the game, there's lots going on, view may be obscured etc. It's a difficult job.

But that today was ridiculous. He's stopped play so nothing else to focus on. It couldn't be any clearer, having already booked someone for the same offence. He bottled it, simple as that.

I think it’s only a matter of time before the whole thing is overhauled.

Watching the Ashes and the review system (which is now quicker and “fair delivery” is dealt with straight away before analysing crucial decisions) one can’t help but think that a similar system is introduced in football. I think Jay Bothroyd alluded to such the other day.

I predict that in a few seasons managers will have the ability to call “time out and review” a couple of key incidents per match. Review successful - keep your review. Unsuccessful - one less left, like Test cricket.

We have VAR and goal-line technology. I think the above is next.

As an aside, remember what was a big turning point to goal-line technology?

The Lampard England “goal” about 15-20 years ago v Germany.

One of those times I wish we could hear his explanation, but of course we'll never get the luxury of that. He'll probably offer a lip service explanation to Lampard or one of the coaching staff, then sod off home feeling really pleased with himself for a job well done and that'll be that.

Was he the only reason we lost today? No. Poor defending cost us, and we can't keep having to rescue games like we are at the minute because it's going to catch up with yoy eventually. But that doesn't mean the ref should be allowed to get away with such disgraceful inconsistency, especially when there are examples of it at this level pretty much every week now.
Paul Tierney is a “Premier League Referee” just for those that didn’t know today.
If he is correctly cautioning Eccles then he has to caution Hurst aswell who of course remains on the pitch and scores the 2nd. It is a basic error and he has left himself open to criticism.
Mr Tierney will know that he has made an error and as a match day coach (obviously not Premier League level but MFL level) if this happened (and it has done) , I would relay that information to the Referee in the debrief after the game in the dressing room in private. He will no doubt be contacted by the relevant parties after the weekend-but that is no consultation to the team that has been wronged, its a key match changing decision.
It’s not the first gaff though in regards to Mr Tierney……

Nah the big headed c**t never has to justify or explain any decision so will continue to be fucking incompetent until he retires

I thought Eccles booking was harsh, so by definition the same applies to Hirst, but once the ref had set the bar as he did he should have sent Hirst off. Instead he bottled it, and the excuse being perpetuated that Hirst didn't hear the whistle is nonsense. Until that point I thought we were on top and the better team, so against 10 men I would have expected us to win. Once they scored though we were relatively toothless, then when Hirst himself scored it was obvious it was going to be one of those days, and in the end they deserved their win. Its important we bounce back on Wednesday which hopefully we will.

Looks even worse from here.

He's basically just decided to go and catch the ball outside the box because he knows the ref won't send him off.

There were so many incidents, but the ref missed the hand ball , just in front of us skyblue fans , just blatantly put his hand out & it went for a throw in …….. just another booking he missed 😩😩😩😩

No one is, they just want to know why simple decisions go against us every week.

Come on every team can say that every week due to supporters goggles. Refs still get more decisions right than the fans.

Controversial I know.

Agree with this.

Today's was inexcusable, though.

It wasn't misinterpretation of an incident or getting a 50/50 wrong, it was not treating a bookable offence with a booking purely because the player had already been booked. Even that, in itself, wouldn't be an issue, as it was hardly serious foul play, except that he'd set a precedent by booking a player for exactly the same thing earlier in the game.

Sure. Shame we have had 4/5 horror decisions against us in 7 days.

What is your judgement based on. Your view or the refs. Because it comes down to what the ref sees.

Let's face it VAR despite countless replays from different angles still only muddies the waters.

So why not grow a pair and get on with the game. Because that is how football has been played most of my life. The history of football is built on mistakes by player's, manager's and referees.

Why fuel Talksport with a week's worth of analytical bollocks that changes nothing.

Based on the decision against MVE and the Hirst one today. Two major decisions.

I don't want VAR.

I think he got that one right to be fair. I don't think that's a red card. Haven't watched it back but I don't think it prevented an obvious goalscoring opportunity.

Yep, unfortunately those are the rules.

He knew that, hence why he came out and caught ball in no mans land.
