What’s sheaf on? 10k a week? Id prefer 3 Ben sheafs in a squad screaming for depth

Probably. But our income is also probably higher than it has ever been. We’ve got more ST holders than we’ve ever had. We are talking about one step outside the PL. £20k/week is at the top end of what’s sensible, but Hamer is at the top end of what we can expect at our level.

It maybe of course that Robins and King have discussed all of this and Robins has said he thinks he can thinks he can progress the club more quickly having a larger squad on more modest salaries than he can a smaller squad with 1 or 2 on much much higher salaries.

I’m not saying which view is correct but Robins has just signed a new long term deal at the club when his stock in the football world is at its highest. I doubt therefore he has done so without feeling comfortable with the level of planned investment in the squad and infrastructure, and our approach to dealing with Vik, Hamer, Sheaf etc …

We’ve competed the last two seasons.

I want us to be backed as much as the next guy but honestly I’d prefer this money and his transfer fee to be spread out across multiple promising talents.

The fact is we need to forget the sentimentality and ego and sell him for as much as possible and get 3 or 4 players in the door.

Lack of depth was what stopped us getting promoted this year, let’s crack on

We’ve competed this season. We fell off half way through last season. This season was the lowest points total for the play offs in years.

what concerns me is what Doug does if we say finish 15th. robins clearly doesn’t have the tools to regularly be top 6, will he be thrown under the bus?

3 Ben Sheafs? Fuck that, I want 8 Jamie Allen's. Because having a team full of bang average footballers is what every fan wants.

Agree with the above. At the moment Robins priorities are a whole new defence, at least one midfielder and a striker to replace Walker. Vik and Hamer are here for another 12 months why rush to sell them, the transfer window is open until the end of August. Sell Vik or Hamer or both now yes we might be sitting on 20/25 million quid all very nice but all the prices go up for any purchases we might want to do.

Doesn’t make him wrong - this model is not workable in the championship - as quoted by Tim Fisher.

I’m not saying throw 100s millions at it, but if you want to challenge you need to buy better players, or else you’ll continue to stagnate and eventually get relegated. See us and Ipswich and to an extent Birmingham

I wouldn’t say Millwall are a better or bigger club than us, but they’ve just spent 2m on Nisbet

I prefer to be better by spending cash on the foundations first, to produce multiple Hamers in the future, rather than the spunk and gamble approach.

Now if the owner has the cash to buy a couple more Hamers right now the spread the risk and improve the team then fantastic, bring it on. One Hamer alone doth not a team make.

Quite simple.

Anyway, this is all getting incredibly tedious and circular, so let's hope he either signs a new contract or sods off sharpish!

Or we could spend an extra £500k on Hamer's wages for a year then get a fair bit more for him with a couple of years still left than if we sold him now when his contract is in it's final year.

So for that outlay we get one of the best players in the league for another year maybe giving us another crack at promotion or still make a profit overall to bring in multiple players if he moves on if we don't.

Or we get less because he gets injured, we don't replace Gyokeres as well aswe'd like or sign a defence to play for his contract, and instead we end up with eight Jamie Allens playing full back, centre back, and centre forward.

Or we sell one Hamer to buy three or four future Hamers, two of them work out so we have two Hamers instead of one.

And what happens if those 3/4 future players get injured? Or turn out not to be as good.

Or Hamer could go on to have an injury free season while every single one of the players we bring in gets injured? Why sign anyone because there's a risk they might get injured or just not do well.

And the chance of us spreading out the Hamer cash and bringing in someone of even close to a similar level is extremely small. To think we'd get two is optimism bordering on lunacy.

Why is it lunacy to suggest the people who signed Hamer can sign another Hamer?

Were you once of those people who decided it was lunacy not to sign Walsh...?

He's not tbf, he's great at what he does but you'll do more damage with a Hamer and a Sheaf than 3 Ben Sheafs.

So you consider a Robins a shite manager who can't judge a player, and isn't able to unearth the likes of Hamer and Gyokeres?

You don't just buy Hamers very often. It's more likely that we would end up with a Waghorn, a Kane, an Allen and a Dacosta. We will never progress that way.

For what it's worth I don't think we will hold onto Hamer or Gyokeres anyway as they will want to progress quicker than we can offer. We will have to use the money wisely, but the chance of finding two Hamer equivalents in one window us low.

It’s great to just stick your fingers in your ears and shout “the club deserves better” but unfortunately over here in the real world you need money to make the world go around

“Over here in the real world”? We play in a division where the wages to turnover ratio is around 125%. If you want to play in the real world, we eventually have to play somewhere else.

The manager makes a world of difference too. Terry Butcher anyone? Just watching oggy having to kick long to Gally and Nuddy the smallest lads in the division for a season was an embarrassment. Something so obviously wasn't working but the manager didn't seem to have the nouse to fix or else the character to face up to being wrong.

The manager and coach are the same, and have the final say. I'd trust their judgement, wouldn't you?

I mean you're right, we don't have Fisher anymore to sign off I guess.
