£8.5m is a fair number for the length left on his contract.
If we got £17m which you mention above for Gyokeres and £8.5m for Hamer that could definitely fund one great rebuild. Personally I think it’s too much of a rebuild for one transfer window, we could get the money but find ourselves in a relegation battle

We’ve done it before.

If Vik and Gus go well likely need 4/5 first team players, which isn’t unheard of.

We’ve signed double digits in one window under Robins before. It was basically the norm in L1/2. I’m not too worried. I’d expect us to hold some back for Jan as we always do, and we may well hold back for next summer too, but I can see us bringing in say 5 loans and 5 signings pretty easily.

Issue is, this is a little bit like comparing apples and oranges.

Frankly, it was easier to recruit in L1/L2 as most of the signings were low cost by large and even with all of the off field issues the club was still one of the more attractive propositions in each respective league.

The Championship is a completely different kettle of fish. The stakes are higher, as is the financial outlay for signings and the level of competition we're up against is far greater.

We can easily get bodies in but getting the right ones in is quite clearly far more difficult at this level, especially when factoring in the budget Robins has available.

Which is why I've said for a while the number of signings we need is a bit of a double edged sword.

You don’t think losing Play Off Finalists lead by one of the most stable managers in the country who has a record of player improvement is a draw?

It really depends doesn't it on the player and their own ambitions and circumstance doesn't it? And fundamentally what they deem is a desirable trait when joining a club.

Robins is undoubtedly a draw, especially on the loan front/for young players, but looking at it objectively there's far more to a player's decision making when joining a club than who the manager is. Pay, location, ability to progress their career with/without the club, who they're playing with, size of club, club ambition etc.

It's such a multi-faceted and complex decision that unfortunately is largely dictated by what the club can offer - both in wages and in transfer fees when looking to acquire said players in the first instance.

I don't really think that us being in the PO final last year is much of a draw at all really. It's yesterday's news and nearly half the team that was present on that day will have likely moved on by the end of the window, including the team's two most integral players potentially.

Just look at Huddersfield season last season as an example to highlight why that just isn't necessarily as much of a selling point as you perhaps might think.

You may as well say look at Luton last year. A far more apt comparison really.

I know you’re one who likes to pretend we’re some tiny backwater club, but we’re not really. We’ve got decent crowds with a reputation among players for being supportive, a great team ethos, play in a good modern stadium, have history at the top level. I could go on. Yes you could join a relegated side, but ask McNally how that can go, or yes you can join one of the big spenders (ask JCS…), but outside of that I’d be pushed to find a better team in this division to join if you’re a young ambitious player. We are far more likely to not only develop you, but also play you rather than sign someone else, and play a reliable brand of football that is unlikely to change if the owners get twitchy.

We're not a tiny backwater club, and you'll do well to find a post where I've ever even made reference to that, my point is we hardly stand out against the competition in the Championship and our biggest achilles heal is that 70-80% of the league are in a position where they can offer higher wages to their players than we are - as well as transfer fees.

Robins and Adi are both undoubtedly a significant draw for young players, which is why the club has consistently done well in the loan market over the years. But look at the Egan-Riley scenario last summer, he was practically in the building about to sign on the dotted line then Burnley came in last minute and he turned us down. As stated, there's far more to a player's decision making when joining a club than who the manager is. That's not really something to refute.

While the examples you've given are something that can indeed be used by the club as selling points when trying to recruit, if you think that massively sets us apart particularly from the rest of the league then you're incredibly naive.

I don't particularly buy in to the narrative that our crowd/stadium is a massive draw either comparative to the competition. I'd imagine for the forthcoming season we'll be slightly higher than mid table for average attendance when you account for the clubs coming up from L1 and those that are coming down from the PL. Also 12 out of the 24 teams in the Championship have 30k+ capacity stadiums.

Leeds will pull close to 38k week in and week out and that's before the cheating parachute money. Leicester will be a big draw too and there's the other recently relagated sides. Sunderland are a big club. We can't out-compete these clubs in the casino and we need a full squad of players. This means the club has to reckon up properly what it is spending. There's no magic fairy riding into town on the back of filthy oil money and slave labour.

Trouble is, we were run like a tiny club. SISU became scared of doing anything, both investment in the team and behind the scenes. But they were not in a massive mess.
