My Opinion is Wright has been poor but when he came on against Rotherham i watched him very closely ,he was the only player making runs and pointing where it needed to go and on every occasion the ball was never played to him, the player cant play if the correct balls are never played by are midfield etc. By this time Simms was not running for anything just standing knowing running was a waste of effort. We need to play some early balls to Wright I think to see him in a better light.

Yes I must admit my perception is that he tries harder than Simms.

Shipping out Wright after 12 games would be one thing, and something you could explain away with homesickness etc….Doing the same thing with multiple signings in the space of one window is a great way to tell future transfer targets and their agents that we’re an unserious and unreliable partner to deal with. It would be a disaster for our reputation.

I’m not serious (well, maybe about Collins, seems a waste and I refuse to believe we can’t find a better all round keeper than Wilson).

This is true and by the same token Robins needs to take ownership of his decision to spend a small fortune on two strikers.
He has to back his judgement and give Wright and Simms a run of games.

100%. Acting like Wright has to "prove" himself, with the odd 20 mins here and there, is ridiculous. He's already proved himself, according to the club, that's why they spent over £7 million on him! Just fuckin play him, and if it doesn't work out then that's on the management and scouting team. It's not like we have an alternative who's banging in the goals anyway.

Robins is acting like he's picked up a 19 y/o prodigy forward on loan, and he needs to prove himself in training before getting game time.

I don’t think we needed to buy another keeper this window (you almost never need to play your backup and we still have Moore) but Collins was cheap, we had the cash, and the expectation is that he will become the #1 eventually.

Thomas has been shaky lately but I think he has potential and £2 million is a fair price for a player like that, a gamble we can afford to take. No need for serious questions about either player imo. Different story for Wright, and for Kitching if he doesn’t get into the side soon.

I genuinely believe that it was a good window, ruined by Hamer leaving unexpectedly at the last moment. The only question I have is over Wright. It would be great if we could bring in a midfielder in January who can play a similar role to Hamer. Collins is young for a keeper, so plenty of time to develop into a replacement for Wilson if required.

Simms looks the better bet. He was unlucky not to score a couple on Wednesday and overall is more of a threat

I think Wright and quite possibly Kitching were horrendous overpays, which we can ill-afford if they don’t start recouping that value soon.

I think an equally big problem with the window is failing to identify players who will come in and expect a certain standard from their teammates. Wright, Simms and Sakamoto all seem like nice polite lads who won’t ruffle too many feathers - and there’s nothing wrong with that! But bringing three of them in at once and expecting them to replace guys like Gyokeres (who terrorised his own teammates as much as his opponents) has changed the team dynamic for the worse from what I can tell.

Really good point - you would hope this may come in the shape of an aggressive number 8 in January

Simms gets shots on target most games. He's been "unlucky" not to have scored 3 or 4 more goals after good saves or blocks.

No idea how it counts as unexpected when people had been talking about it all summer, and does 20 days before the window closes really count as 'last minute'?

What we'll never know, because GIMOC is our source, is how much the club were led along and thought he'd be staying.

It's fair to say if he'd gone when Gyokeres did, we'd have had time to bring in replacements more effectively (and yes, I appreciate we're talking Wright here!)

The overreaction on Wright is weird. People seem to want him to fail. I think he actually looks a better player than Simms in a lot of aspects, but struggles to get into games - more mental than physical or technical.

If we could sort that out we'd have a player on our hands. But would take 5/6m for him in Jan if offered.

20 days to bring in a replacement for Hamer? I don't know. Even if you've got one lined up, and they're still available, doesn't necessarily mean you can get the deal done in that time. And you're not going to want to bring in just anyone.

Of course not, but it's not last minute. If they didn't have potential replacements already lined up given the likelihood of the event then it is even more concerning. The club didn't get someone in for one reason or another, sometimes that happens, but blaming that on a player leaving 'last minute', instead of looking at the clubs handling of a situation when they had plenty of time to plan and take action on is clutching at straws.

Can't say he has impressed me and the fee does seem steep.. but.. fucking hell some of the bile on here is way over the top.

He has played 551 mins for the club so far. That's just over 6 matches total on pitch. He has 2 goals and 1 assist, not great but he has only just fucking joined. Let's get off his back and at least give him a decent run.

Genuinely feels like some of you get a buzz out of slagging off players. Weird

Just for some context, Vik scored 3 goals and 0 assists in 1,028 mins of Championship football during the 20/21 season. It can take time for players to settle and work the league out.

I know the age and fee mean we'd want more of an instant impact. But it's difficult to come into a new league and join a club that failed to recruit a creative midfielder

Hamer leaving unexpectedly - if thats the case, the club should be criticised for poor planning.

Hamer was possibly the reason we made the play offs. It was to be expected he’d be subject to interest and given he had 1 year left it’s even more likely he was to leave.

with 1 year left they should have been planning for his exit - as they did with Gyokeres

I had expected a far better return from Simms & Wright by this time. However, I'm left wondering if the system we are playing doesn't fit with the players.
Playing two up front with Godden + Simms/Wright just doesn't seem to work. They're is little linkage play between them and aimless long balls out of defence for Matty to try and head on just leads to any opposition getting possession again.
We still line up with two defensive midfield players sitting in front of the back 3. Neither of the two show regular ability to pivot play and send quick balls out to the wingbacks or into the channels.
Hence our transition from defence into attack allows too much time for teams to be "set" with most their players behind the ball.
Should we switch to the box formation or to one sitting defensive midfielder and adopt a 3-3-3-1 / 5-1-3-1 formation?
Currently, we don't have a midfield player showing expansive pivot play.....role on January and sign one please? I'm hoping they're not as rare as "rocking horse muck".

Can plan all you like but if he only decides to leave 2 weeks before the deadline what can they do? Robins himself said we couldnt get some over the line, purely down to timing. All week they have been criticised for recruitment and you are endorsing panic buying here.

Sounds like Robins was alluding to Wright in the pre-match press for West Brom, where he basically says "people" have been taken by surprise by the quality and intensity of the Championship.

This made me have a quick look at the stats, as seemed about right to me, but Simms might actually have the lowest xG per minute and Wright the highest. That was a brief look doing the maths in my head and could be wrong.

As others have said Wright was poor in the games he’s started though.

Out of the strikers, this would be correct. Surprising!!

It’s got to the point where I think we should just start him and Simms up top for an extended run and see what they can do. We’re never going to know unless we actually play them together.

I seem to recall that didn’t score as highly as I’d thought at the time.

Just checked, possibly wrong on that? It scored 0.68 so just over 1/5th of his total xG.
