We can’t afford to lose Gyokores and his goals and Godden and his goals in one window. We then become too reliant on Simms and potentially Vente (if we get him) Godden is injury prone yes but can score and will get us 8-12 in an injury hit season and as he did in the final can change a game. So if he stays fit could get more. It’s a lot of goals to lose from a side in one window when stability is required if we want to try and push again.
Not being negative here but think we need to hold the basis of the team together, there is a good team spirit and camaraderie. Hope Simms smashes it, I worry about the step up if we bring Vente in and think Sharp is passed it.

Dropped to £2.5m… obviously not as good at negotiating as King Doug King

Swansea have £2.5million bid for hotshot Yates accepted by Blackpool

SWANSEA have had a £2.5million bid for Blackpool striker Jerry Yates accepted. The hitman, 26, scored 14 league goals for the relegated Championship outfit last season. Three other second-tier club…

Very good signing if its 2.5, proven player at a good age shame if we miss out but im sure Robins will have his eyes on alternatives. Couple more in this week with 1 being a defender would be nice.

Elliot Simms at an initial £3.5m is a better deal for me - he’s the better player with more growth potential!

He did have several assists. A very credible amount. No-one can argue with the stats, but when you watch games - particularly this season, he became increasingly selfish.
Stats are a good start, but not everything. There were loads of times when Godden was throwing his hands in the air in frustration at not being picked out - and I have slightly more sympathy for him than Gok.
Again, not a big criticism of Gok coz strikers need to be selfish at times.

The Birmingham penalty left a sour impression on me, so has maybe coloured my opinion.

I thought we mainly debunked this myth at the end of last season. Fairly often it felt to me like Godden was making the wrong run and being difficult to find however when Hamer etc made a late run in to the top of the box and weren't crowded out he would play the pass. Often if he was head down towards goal he went on to take the shot but most strikers who back themselves would.

Part of this might just be Godden wanting more 1st team football but Robins just can't offer that, as he looks to build and improve on last year. Godden might just be seeking one last signing-on fee as well, given his age.

Vik was selfish. As much as you need that as a striker, there also a balance to it being too much. Up until the last 4/5 games I thought he was too selfish. He’d miss a great side pass because he kept his head down. Not for the want of effort but lack of awareness through selfishness.

Then around the time or the QPR and Huddersfield away he was scoring and assisting and I saw a difference.

Definately keep Godden.

He is a championship level finisher all day long. He has his weaknesses as will Simms will do too!.

Godden is definately part of a strong squad for me.

The number of times either Godden or Allen were totally unmarked and waiting for a tap in only to hold heads in arms or their arms outstretched in bewilderment. They both would have had half a dozen more goals for the season. He seemed to get better as you say in the last few games and especially the great ball for Gus at Wembley.

With QPR being interested, then I wouldn't mind Chris Willock from them, Godden plus cash

The reason Gyokeres had so many assists is that he is a very good player who makes lots of chances. It is clear from watching him that he can be selfish and to an extent you want that in a striker and we often benefitted from him being so. However, there were times when he should have passed to teammates and this is an area of his game he still needs to work on.

Correct. Odd that BBC seem to have included them when nobody else does.

Either way, Gyokeres did more than his fair share of creating for others (bear in mind majority of this list is dominated by set piece takers too):

Can’t both things be true at the same time? Vik created a lot of chances/goals, and yet was also a very selfish player…

I rate John Swift, might be available WBA in a bit of financial pickle.
If Hamer leaves might be worth an inquiry.
Ex Chelsea too.

Furthermore many of Gyökeres’ goals were effectively created by him from nothing much. The assist for the goal vs Wigan at home - undoubtedly our best solo goal since Huckerby vs Man Utd in 1997 - was awarded to Josh Eccles who hacked the ball clear of the penalty box. Gyökeres headed the clearance up into the air, brought it back down and while controlling it turned his marker. He then ran from his own half to score.

And a lot of those assists and goals from Gyokeres, I would say he’s probably the only player in the league that would’ve been able to create the situations in the first place due to his bullying. Let’s hope Simms can grow into doing similar.

As for Godden, he’s a great finisher, clever mover and someone I think we should definitely be keeping. Proven goalscorer even if we have to accept some injury spells.

Yeah, absolutely. I think he took the wrong (selfish) option on many occasions but most top strikers would probably do the same. I think MR said similar in one of his post match press conferences. I also think such instances stick in the mind though & are actually overplayed by supporters.

Someone has text me to say that they've seen Godden at Gatwick airport today. Could he be on his way for talks with someone?
It will be a shame if he moves on.
