Any head of a union who doesn’t let one of its countries leave when it wants is a dictator!

Love it when Brexiters argue against Scottish independence (or when Remainers argue for it)

Assume Goldsmith will be turning down his peerage.

And we all know the rumours of Farage being in the New Years honours can't be true as he told us himself that he wouldn't accept anything in return for not running candidates against the Conservatives.

Fair play to you Grendel. Corbyn losing in a landslide and announcing he's standing down has done nothing to dampen your complete obsession with him!

Still no sign of the Russia report but it has emerged that Johnson attended a "caviar-fuelled Christmas party" hosted by former KGB agent Alexander Lebedev the day after the election.

Where do you get that from?

The weather rate per 1000 of the population 2010 (when austerity began) to 2018 is actually generally lower than the 10yrs prior to austerity from what I found.

UK: death rate 2000-2017 | Statista

Even dear old factcheck says the quoted 120k deaths due to austerity cannot be proven from the data it is claimed to be from by the...wait for it...Ash Sarkar (Left-wing commentator)

I think it more a part of their education as they mature to see that the further left you look, the ideals just become more unrealistic the deeper you look.

Wouldn't actually knock them for seeking a way to make it work personally as I think in an ideal world, the wealth health gap between rich & poor would be much better balanced & society overall would benefit. The "how?" is the biggest problem imo.

You do see this goes both ways at both ends of the spectrum right? The belief that deregulation and tax giveaways on steroids will lead to prosperity has been debunked with disastrous consequences on each occasion it has been implemented. Most of us would agree that a balance of socialism and capitalism is the way to achieve a rounded society. The difficulty comes in where to draw the line between the state and the free market. Again I think most would agree that education and healthcare should be free at the point of use but for instance they wouldn't want state run fast food companies.

It just confuses me sometimes that people can see the benefit of more egalitarian policies but think they're too difficult to achieve so vote for the opposite.

Yes I see it from both ends...but Tory policies are not as far right to make them so unrealistic to implement as the Labour left policies are...especially in relation to the current state of play imo.

I mean...I see the benefit to me of a 4 day week. Especially if I get paid the same annual salary. Otherwise, it isn't going to work for me...just one example

The 2019 manifesto was deliberately non-committal so as to make the primary focus on Brexit, but the 2017 one for example went on about mass expansion of grammar schools. A hugely expensive idea that would widen and entrench social inequality. Taking what they've done over the last decade to the point that secondary education is now completely privatised but because it wasn't all done in one go it doesn't hit the headlines. Schools are now run as businesses and the impact of that on classroom teaching has made my job considerably harder.

Labour's manifesto this time was one imagines a 'what the fuck' wish list made because they knew they weren't getting in. The 2017 manifesto however contains little to disagree with and the polling on those ideas backs me up. The dialogue in this country has been dragged to the right for years so that Thatcher's wet dreams are now seen as moderate positions. But proposing a £10 minimum wage makes you a Marxist.

So are you saying the overall death rate would be lower if it wasn't for austerity?

I am confused as to how you can actually specifically claim that someone died specifically because of austerity...especially when the actual death rate is little different over the time period austerity has been in place from when it wasn't! In fact it is a tad lower.

As for the disabled, I'm not sure why you raise it? Is it relevant to the discussion?

For the record though it doesn't matter what scenario you paint, There are always cases where people suffer as a result of checks & criteria, which is very sad, but the system usually finds a way to get around it's own rules where genuinely needed.

Of course some would suggest a system where we just don't have rules & let everyone & anyone take however much they want from the country's coffers whenever they wish.

Why is JOB smug? A very clever chap and critical of all parties but he quite rightly focuses on the Tories most as they are in power. A very talented jounalist/presenter harsh but true and not many of them about holding people to account for their comments and opinions. Farage was destroyed by him. His criticism of Corbyn was bang on too. Boris wouldn't go near an interview with him in a month of Sundays. I can't think of another jouno who is as insightful of him. Makes people think.

Are you suggesting 20k fewer police and hospitals failing left right and centre has not affected number of deaths? I saw it with my own eyes in Cov hospital with my old man passing away in a corridor lined up with a dozen others in 2017, with only one overstretched doctor in sight. Please think harder before you type in future.
