Do you know what I was thinking during the Disney dragon riding scene?

"We could have had five more minutes of Bronn porking those slags!"

Although the only moment of genuine intrigue for me in that episode was Bronn's dilemma regarding being sent to kill the Lannister bros. That's going to be interesting.

I bet he is glad they were interrupted. Would have had his banjo clean off. Not even a bit of spit on it.

I dont get Samwell suddenly being bothered about his dad and brother. I thought he hated them?

Well his dad sent him to the wall for no good reason so he should have hated him but he seems very loyal. Not sure his brother did anything out of order to him.

Was glad to see him have some balls and Kaleesi will no doubt suffer for her past transgressions.

Also wonder if Bron and cersei will be seen in the same room? I read somewhere they hate each other.

Oh yeah I remember reading something about that. Did they used to go out with each other?

I know a guy who worked as a junior camera operator in the studios in Belfast. He said Lena Headey, who plays Cersei wasn't nice to the crew at all. She wouldn't speak to anyone and once got a runner sacked for ordering her the wrong type of coffee.

They had a "thing" once, and apparently she made it clear to the directors she would not appear in a scene with him.

It was okay but clearly a scene setting episode. The dragon riding bit was a little cheesy and the big reveal to Jon Snow was a little unwhelming but it was a fairly decent start. Nowt compared to the start of the last season!

The Independent also had this to say about his performance in the latest episode, so linking to the odd good review doesn't change the fact that he's ropey as hell.

"The big climax is Jon learning his heritage, the climax of a theory the most ardent fans of the books will have been wondering about since 1996. Kit Harington’s shortcomings as an actor are abundantly clear by this point, but we have to cheer the poor lad in, like that bloke in the Olympic swimming when everyone else was disqualified. Go on Kit, you can do it."

I'm genuinely glad you and others enjoyed it. I wish I had too. I was giddy with excitement today. Maybe I was too excited and expecting too much but I'm rooting for things to get better.

But the fact he has had many very good reviews of his performances surely tells you he CAN act.

I am sure this is the way he has been asked to play the role here.

And I just played back the scene again and I can totally understand why it was played out like that last night. It was just the enormity of it and it failed to sink in.

I don't think it was the acting. Would have been easy to do the histrionics, but they had the scene deliberately underplayed.

Made sense to me.

I also think you have to factor in that he has a decision to make - does he carry on nailing his aunt? does he claim the throne for himself? (meaning he probably won’t be able to bone his aunt anymore) - then there’s the small matter of the Night King. I wonder if he’s thinking he keeps this a secret (a nice parallel with the secrecy of his parentage) until after the battle. If he dies it doesn’t matter.

I was glad the pace dropped a bit for one episode at least. Last season was breakneck so missed some of the little bits that make it as good as it is.

Haven't watched one episode.
I don't get that channel and won't pay more to get it since I'm already paying way too much.
Lots of people seen to rave about it but then again they did about Harry Potter, which I could never get into.

Must avoid this thread. Currently binge watching GOT series 1 to 7.

Got to series 6. This is a bad thing.

Stage acting is a completely different beast to film though, so I fail to see how a few good reviews for a play make his GOT performance good.

Anyone I've spoken also voiced their disgruntlement at the performance.

It's all subjective though innit.

Yeah.

Personally I don't think he is that good and it's all s but flat from him, but I do think he is being asked to play it as such.

He was a bit dull in the Spooks movie too.

You're right. Stage acting is a different beast for sure.

I have been saying this all day today!!! In the books it is made pretty clear that only Targareyns can ride dragons which would indicate the night king is a targareyn somehow. Not quite sure how Rhaegar would have made it north of the wall however after being pummelled by Roberts warhammer.

I think the Night King could be a Targareyn/Stark hybrid.... would work with the Song of Ice and Fire mantra... and again why he’s interested in Jon so much.

Bollocks. The ice lord can do anything he wants, it's nothing to do with heritage. Can the Targareyns throw javelins so well that they can take down a speeding dragon?

The ice lord is an Olympic champion who travelled back in time to pork Khaleesi. That's my theory anyway.

I think Varys will meet Daenerys, Bronn will meet Bran, Melisandre will meet Sansa, Grey Worm will meet Greyjoy and whole thing will go batshit crazy.

No - there is also a theory that Mance Rayder is in fact Rhaegar - who is still alive in the books.

Yes, the King beyond the wall. He didn't die in the books as Ian said. Well, not for certain.

But he died in the TV show so that theory cannot hold much water can it?

Well it depends if it impacts on the overall arc of the story.

As much as I like it as an idea it is unlikely to be true. That said in the books Rhaegar was obsessed with the Azor Ahai prophecy - so if he were to end up beyond the wall, his desire to unite all the separate clans in a fight against the White Walkers has some logic to it. He could be the one to reveal Jon’s parentage to him rather than Bran and then die in a fight against the WW. It wouldn’t affect the overall story arc too much.

Just a bit of tinfoil there...

Well, they made it look like he’d died in the books. Red priestess made the guy they actually killed look like him.

Think you’re right though, but that’s the reason for this theory.

Shit episode. Another hour of calm before the storm with boring, pointless conversations.

Can tell they're ahead of the books because the great dialogue you had in previous seasons isn't there.

*Spoilers*

At this stage they are somewhat taking the piss with tying up loose ends. An 1hr15mins opening episode could have set everything up perfectly.

Fans have waited nearly two years for this and it feels really stunted and dragged out. The writing is definitely suffering too.

Saying that, I still enjoyed it. Tormunds giant breast feeding story had me in stitches. Overall I thought the funny parts were executed better than the dramatic elements.

Anyway onto next week where surely to titty fucking christ something will happen!!

I enjoyed it too. Trying to build the tension before the battle. And now we know what the night king wants?

The continued slow build up was expected really, but next weeks better be a humdinger.
