Bit of a stupid comment but realistically it was harmless. Not much point in complaining as nothing is ever going to be done about it.

the only point i can think of that interview is public reassurance to the EFL that they are doing everything they can (whilst actually doing very little)...... with "its not my fault guv" being the tag line.

There is nothing that has changed that should give him confidence is there?........ Gilbert is saying mid or late March for the Supreme Court. Neither Wasps nor SISU have changed their stance. The club isnt apparently incapable of changing anything but all of a sudden all at club stretching every sinew to resolve it?

What else is going on?

Have to agree i am somewhat sceptical of this 6 mile rule...... in the end if not kicked out at Special meeting the EFL would have no choice but to allow CCFC to rock up at a ground share

A few years ago the EFL told Bob Aisnsworth there was an 8 mile rule.

As I said to Nick, I'm sceptical too but if what the club is saying is untrue surely the EFL would put out a statement refuting such comments. Regardless of the circumstances surely a football club can't claim the EFL have said something when they simply haven't?

Part of unpublished unaccountable EFL decision making process. I can see them being the next target for SISU.

Not really, the EFL don't seem the type to put out statements every other day like that.

I am being cynical but I think that is bullshit to try and put the pressure on. I can't see how the EFL could even enforce 6 miles from the city centre if it came down to it. They would open themselves up for their own legal action.

I don't think he slipped that in as an afterthought. It was intended for him to say that.

Has this been confirmed by the EFL? If not, I'm not interested in speculation one way or another. The only people who can confirm whether they have told the club 6/8 miles or not is the EFL. Until then it's all conjecture.

On reflection I ask as many on here to send email complaint to Talk Sport, I’m sending one to BBC too. Why should he or anyone else for that matter use national radio to disrespect our football club and it’s supporters if nothing else it might teach Talk Sport to be more respectful.

No you're right in being cynical because I'm baffled by why they haven't reiterated what they have said to the club in their letter. I was thinking that. The only motive that comes to mind is the EFL and the club are working together to put pressure on Wasps. But, realistically is the EFL allowed to do that as that's not exactly above board and like you said, it probably would open themselves up to legal action. Plus to put it simply, they don't seem that generous.

I believe CCFC "Tim Fisher" has a letter stating that Coventry City Must play within 6miles or 8 miles, but is twisting the FACTS.
This letter may concern the building of a NEW STADIUM. So that SISU doesn't come up with 'our only option is some FREE land outside Wolverhampton'

However I do not believe the EFL will Kick us out of the football league, For example: if 'the smurf', who now owns Nuneaton Boroughs ground, could improve Nuneaton's ground to Football League standard or ground sharing with another Midlands Football League/Premier League club.

Basically the Butts is our only other option, other than the Ricoh, in the City and that is a long way of being fit for Football League football.

Exactly. Which then opens up the question of why have they let it slide. Yes, they might not put out regular statements but surely if a club has claimed they've been told something by the EFL which is factually false, the EFL would put have to put a statement. To cover their own back if anything, as somewhere down the line they'd surely be questioned over the legitimacy of such comments. Regardless of the circumstances the club can't publicly lie about an apparent correspondence that has never even taken place. Even at the end it's still smoke and mirrors with us.

You would have thought the EFL can't just make up random rules on the fly for our situation. So either there is a rule around stadium location which the media can confirm with them or there isn't. The only reason they would need to give us something specific was if they were relaxing the rules due to our situation, for example if it was normally 10 miles but they'd allow us 20.

I've just called the EFL and asked them if it came to it would we be allowed to play outside of Coventry.

They won't provide a straight answer, they referred me to their statement and said in daily discussion with CCFC and mentioned confidentiality etc.

When pushed on what the EFL rules state about being based away from home area they pointed me to Section 4 Clubs 13.6

Each club shall register with the league & no club shall remove to another ground (temp or perm) without first obtaining the written consent of the board, such consent not to be unreasonably withheld and the board shall be entitled, if granting consent, to impose such conditions as it deems appropriate in all the circumstances.

So it's at the efl boards discretion to let us play away from Cov if we had to.

I said in this situation I'd rather temporarily play away from Cov than go out of existence

Either way it makes them look like a bit of a joke and sets two precedents. 1. If they're creating a rule out of nothing then where does it end. 2. If they're relaxing rules for our situation then surely clubs in trouble might argue that other rules should be relaxed for their given situation.

So even if we pass the initial vote with the 72 members we are still at the mercy of the EFL board?

Thing is, it's impossible for them to enforce it while there are clubs who rent stadiums.

If they were to say "Coventry City must play at the Ricoh or they are out of the league" then stadium owners will see it with pound signs in their eyes.

Every situation is going to be different so there will be discretion.

Exactly they can't really do much so in many ways they have to remain objective. Which is slightly contradictory because it means they can't act in the best interests of the club; not without facing some sort of backlash anyway.

Is it really pound signs for the majority of stadium owners though? It probably would for some but I disagree that it would for the majority. If a club no longer plays at their stadium because the ground owner has squeezed every last penny out of them then surely as an asset it's more or less useless for said ground owner, as one of their main sources of income from the stadium has gone. Unless they decide to flatten it and build some sort of housing development on it they effectively have a useless asset on their hands that is more than likely losing them money. Even if a ground owner decided to go down that route it would be far easier said than done as they could be faced with anything from protests, to legal action to potential delays from the council. It's certainly an issue that clubs will be wary of but how much of an issue it will be is something that is down to conjecture and conjecture alone really.

With Charlton re-listing The Valley as an Asset of Community Value I can see a lot of clubs (who own their grounds) going down this route to protect themselves against rogue stadium owners anyway.

If anyone is willing to challenge this "6 mile rule", there are lots of clubs that would fail it. Barnet (7 miles), AFC Wimbledon (13 miles), Brentford (12.8Km from London city centre). Heck, most of the clubs in London fail it. And of course, there's Manchester Utd Grimsby play in Cleethorpes, not Grimsby (though they are only 2-3 miles away from the city centre), Oldham play 5 miles away from their city, almost in the neighbouring town of Horwich. Thanks to a 2017 article in the The Guardian for mileage figures.

Brentford isn't a city/town in its own right, it's just an area of London.
