I turned Fractured off after about 5 minutes because again it was really boring.

I stuck with it and it does get better. It's not great, but worth finishing.

The King on Netflix is pretty good if you can appreciate a slow build up, I enjoyed it. 7/10 movie with a solid lead actor.

I read after I watched The King that he has dual American and French citizenship. Speaks French in the film too

Joker.
Film 8/10.
Phoenix performance 9.5/10.
One of the best leads I can remember. Darker than dark performance.
As said massive nods to King of comedy and I didn't realise that De Nero and Zazie Beetz were in it which was a nice bonus.

The Irishman - 8.5/10

Great storyline, typical classy Scorcese direction and some immense acting. Pesci gave a brilliantly layered performance. No one does simmering rage like he does. I also enjoyed Al Pacino who was over the top as ever. It's quite a sad film and doesn't glorify the mafia way of life which Goodfellas and Casino did.

It loses points for the use of de-aging effects which make half of the film look like a computer game. The technology isn't fit for purpose yet. It's something I just couldn't get passed and it definitely hindered my enjoyment. It's also about 20 mins too long.

It's definitely a must watch though. It's just a shame about the effects.

can't wait to see this film, read the book years ago and loved it.
The de-aging special effects seem to be dividing opinion. Some people seem to have a real issue with it. Listening to the film review on 5live Mark Kermode was OK with it but Simon Mayo wasn't.
Part of the reason Scorsese went with Netflix is because supposedly they have the best technology for that sort of thing and apparently he was insistent on using the same actors rather than using younger actors for the earlier years.

I wonder if that is because there is a strong theme about friendship running throughout the film and for him De Nero, Pacino and Pesci that's particularly relevant as it's probably the last time they will work together.

I think the de-aging either bothers you or it doesn't. As Clint said, on Mark Kermode's film review show Mark said the effects didn't stick out to him whereas Simon Mayo said it bothered him a lot.

I was in Belfast last week where the film is out in all cinemas and it was in a Imax screen so I couldn't resist. I think it will be suited to home viewing though because three and a half hours is too long to be sat in a cinema.

I can see why Scorcese wanted to use de-aging. The film would have looked odd if other actors were used for the younger characters. The problem I had was that it just wasn't executed well enough to allow me to feel immersed. When people age so do their voices yet they stay the same throughout. The shape of the faces stayed the same but with wrinkles removed. DeNiro's eyes were turned bright blue which made it look like he had cataracts. They also modified body movements. DeNiro beats someone up as a 40 something version of himself and he looks like a robot.

Apart from that it is a truly great film and I'm eager to see it again. I think the effects will look better when not blown up on a cinema screen.

Been to see Le Mans 66 as I am a bit of a petrol head - very good 8/10 immersive on a big screen- interesting storyline - racing shots were effective as you were in the story - ex Batman Bale makes a good disruptive Brit - Corporate interference in full vogue !

How does Bale's attempt at a brummie accent go?

Mark Kermode reviewed it and said his accent travels the length and breath of England.

Watched Once upon a time in Hollywood last night and I honestly don't know what to make of it.
Very peculiar premise, not sure what Tarantino was trying to achieve. Pretty quirky though, some good cameos, Mike Moh was funny as Bruce Lee, though I don't think the dialogue hit the heights of some of his films though

Bales accent was not regional but it seemed to remain constant - the storyline sound and the close ups sort of brought you by any finicky issues - he does have penetrating eyes !

Loved it and will go again - class acting - in a way as LeMans 66 it is a pastiche on true event with clever juxtaposition- soundtrack also very good

Green book - one of the best films I've seen for ages. True story. On Amazon or Netflix, can't remember which. Dead easy to follow if, like me, you can't follow complicated plots.

enjoyed it, wasn't quite as intense as I thought it would be given the subject matter. Two leads were great.

Free Solo

A documentary about a man who thinks it's a good idea to climb huge dangerous mountains without the aid of ropes or anything safety related.

It's as gripping (pardon the pun) and nerve wracking as any huge blockbuster film.

9/10

I actually watched Dawn Wall the night before Free Solo. I really enjoyed that too. These guys have grit and determination I could never muster. I find it hard enough getting out of bed never mind pulling myself up a mountain.
