This was a race of the old head and the young gun. It's a given that both drivers are a class above anyone else in the field and both have the best equipment. Red Bull used their team (Perez) to optimum advantage whereas Mercedes left Bottas out to roost.

Verstappen now is like Hamilton when he came into the sport. Brash, unafraid and sometimes reckless. He will calm down and ultimately will become a good champion. This season hasn't shown that side of him.

And the FIA have been getting it wrong for weeks. For the complainers about the Turn 6 incident on the first lap, they only need to think back to Brazil. If the FIA had penalised Verstappen for pushing Hamilton off the track at that time, this may not have happened or Lewis may have been required to give the place back giving us a different race.

Not a fan of Red Bull and their tactics but congratulations to them for consistency.

In a way this is true - Hamilton fucked up in Baku. Verstappen crashed, Perez was first. If hamilton settles for second rather than aggressively t trying to take first and spinning off - he wins the world title. This loss was his own making

Apparently Masi didn't follow the rules anyway. All lapped card should have overtaken, then the SC ended at the end of the following lap. He let five cars through then immediately ended the SC. Rules 39.12 and 39.13 of the 2021 FIA Sporting Code. In this instance, that would mean the race ends under SC.

Can't see how they can get anything out of it though. What can they reverse, when it's neither Verstappen's, nor Red Bull's, fault?

I've watched this sport a long time. That's the most farcical end to a title I've ever seen (I wasn't around when Prost and Senna had their incidentz and I wasn't into it when n Schumacher and Hill/Villenueve had their incidents.)

For me, it's not about who won it today. It's the manner it happened. I said after Mexico Max clearly deserved to win. Lewis on the basis of the last few races deserved it too.

What I object to is the race director deciding something, having Horner on the blower, (Toto isn't innocent in this either, by the way) and then suddenly that decision is changed with one lap to go. Once the race director has made a decision, that's it. It should be stuck to. That's the way it has ALWAYS been.

Horner said to him " Give us one lap"
Thats all they needed. They got it. It's pretty unbelievable.

Doesn't explicitly say it HAS to happen though does it, it's at Masi's discretion which is the problem imo. He makes it up as he goes along meaning inconsistent judgements throughout the season.

I think the bit of it that does have to happen is the "following lap" bit. That's not so open to interpretation, and in this case would have meant the race should have ended under the SC.

Will anything come of it in terms of the title? Probably not. Not least because the FIA won't want to admit to an almighty cock up. But, if it means Michael Masi is in some hot water over his conduct, then I'm all for it. I think if you're a Max fan or a Lewis fan, the one thing that can be agreed on is Masi has acted "questionably" at times over the last few seasons.

This could be interesting though... If Verstappen did indeed overtake under safety car that's a slam dunk penalty I'd think?

Need to see it again, I know he got alongside but did he actually get ahead before the safety car line?

The problem is that even if the race director was wrong, they're not going to depose the just announced World Champion - they just won't do it on that basis - if Max had done something wrong, they may have done.

They obviously decided not to follow the rules because they wanted it to be more entertaining with a race to the finish.

Maybe some people like that but it's definitely not for me.

If the message "LAPPED CARS MAY NOW OVERTAKE" was sent to all teams, it wasn't was it?

With regards to overtaking under SC, I've always understood that as long as you were behind at the start line, you were OK.

I expect that merc‘s protest is based on Massi cocking up the safety car restart, (which won’t gain them anything I suspect) but have given him an “out” by showing Max did overtake him, even for a split second, hence deserving of a 5 second penalty.

I doubt this will succeed, as the FIA will not want the publicity ?? of changing the result.

The FIA won't have wanted any of this type of publicity. I bet if Masi could go back in time he would now have red flagged the race so it would have been a straight 5 lap fight to the end with both on new tyres.

I don't know too much about F1 , but my question is this .

If max and Lewis were both driving In the exact same car, who would do better

If I were Verstappen I'd need to win another championship after this farce. Until then he'll always seen as the driver who won in very dubious circumstances.

He’ll win back to back Championships now I reckon. I don’t see Russell being any different to Bottas in the Merc 2nd car and I expect Checo to take 3rd in the DWC next year meaning RB get the Constructors too.

You know what, wouldn't that be great? Hated him in the past but seeing him emptying the rubbish bags at Silverstone and the way he's become a little more relaxed I wouldn't mind seeing him having a go.

Brundle said best season he's ever commented on. Defo alot of stand out moments.

Lewis taking out max at Silverstone
Lewis hunting down lando when it rained final few laps
Verstappen driving over Hamilton's head
Pit stop undertakes all season long from both contructors
And obviously max wiping out a 11 second lead in a few laps of final race

Crazy season!

To be fair Verstappen didn't 'wipe out an 11 second lead' - the SC did. By the time actual racing restarted he was literally right next to him.

Formula 1 isn't at all fair after some of the things I've seen this season. I'm not a F1 huge fan but I went my first ever F1 race, at Silverstone, this year.
I doubt I'll go again.

I also went to my first race, that race was incredible. Take away the stewards now. It’s been an incredible season, either Max or Hamilton deserved to win. I’m a massive LH44 fan. But Max got there in the end.

Like I said in an earlier post, Hamilton blew it himself. MV deserved to win

After Rosberg won, Hamilton was a man possessed the following season, with a better No2 I expect him to win next year.

be interesting to see what toll has been taken on Verstappen this year, the pressure was immense. It’s a shame Hamilton is at the back end of his career - I’d love to see 10 more years of these 2 going for it

Well max talking about next decade so can't see him doing a rosberg.

Hamilton will defo be back to win it next year. Think he may have mentality like Ronaldo. Father time can wait a lil longer
