Just how shit were we tonight, appalling defending and really sloppy mistakes all night. Fuck all upfront either

They are just walking through our defence and they thankfully have fuck all upfront

If we want to play like this it needs to be a back 5 and the midfield needs to offer protection, defenders made catastrophic mistakes but the midfield was useless.

To be fair though, we left out 7 players who would have normally played.

Oh,and Delph is not even approaching anything like international level.

The difference when Henderson replaced him was quite palpable.

Just back in and saw the score. Glad I never watched it now. But like the boxing at the weekend never saw that coming !

I'm sure we've all seen some shocking defensive displays in our lives but tonight is right up there for me. These defenders have plenty of experience, if they were capable of playing nice passing football they would have been taught it long ago.

Like watching Andy Webster try and play out from the back for us!

Like we aren’t that good and Southgate is not the right man? Boring football, one bit of good play tonight in the build up to Lingards disallowed goal the rest just bilge. The bloke has been given a free ride cause of how lucky he got last year.

Keep passing sideways around your penalty area and the inevitable will happen. Not rocket science. Interesting to see what percentage of our passes were backwards, sideways and in the last third of the pitch (i.e. near our own goal) I'm all for a system, but......

Sometimes you just gotta get rid of the ball.

Love the idea of playing out from the back but you need the player's to do it.

What happened to the England band by the way? Makes a nice change not hearing that crap going all all game.

And you have to be sensible.

Some very poor decision making tonight at the back. You need to know when to bring the ball out and when to get rid of it quickly to then go again with the system.

Yep, but it was just all the Champions League players and obviously Southgate thought they were too tired to start tonight.

Normally they would probably all have played

We looked worse when Kane came on, think the obsession with certain players based on their name needs to stop before it gets silly.

Pretty sure Wilson would have caused them more issues.

Kane was a vampire tonight, just sucked the life out of our attack.

As for John Stones, well. I'm not sure the word has yet been placed in the OED to describe that cluster of a performance from him. I get that we want to play out from the back and all, but Stones became the biggest threat to our defence all on his own. Mind you, we seemed intent on giving something away all night. There's a time to pass it, and a time to lump it. We seemed to get caught on the wrong option too often.

Always the same in these cheap booze stag doo locations. Nothing in Montenegro and nothing in Russia. Whereas in Seville, Amsterdam, Dortmund and now here there has been issues. There was over 16000 in the ground. Around another 6000 have traveled without tickets. These idiots that are turning up and causing trouble are mostly not intending to go the games. I’m sick and tired of it and really hope we’re not playing in Prague in October. It’ll be the same there. I’m not quite sure what can be done to stop the problems. They’re not members so the threat of a ban is pointless.

does ruin it for the real fans like CJ. When I was a young bloke I used to get involved but I do look back and think .. what a prick I was. Lucky to have not got punished far more than I did and although I brought shame on my family and my Dad in particular....it’s a bit of a running joke in the family now.
I’d never take my kids to an England away game..... just not worth the risk.

Sensationalist bollocks.

Bet you weren’t saying that last summer when it was ‘coming home’.

When Southgate first got appointed I thought it was another safe appointment and the wrong one at the time, however, what Southgate has done in a short space of time is impressive.

He’s completely changed our style of play, has integrated many young players, has started getting them playing like a team again and this is going to take time and there was always going to be games when it didn’t work.

England in two semi finals in two years? I’ll take that all day long!

I'd liked to have seen Maddison and/or Foden in the middle of the park as then there would have been someone capable of releasing Sterling or Rashford and breaking their lines. Once the Dutch pushed their whole team forward we ended up playing poor man's ticky tacky (excuse spelling! all around the edge of our own area, and didn't have the capacity to adjust tactics. Even a long ball would have had their back 4 turned, then we could have pushed up. You have to be able to adapt if Plan A doesn't work.

Foden instead of Delph might have made a hell of a difference.

In saying that though, a plank of wood instead of Delph would have made a difference.

Surely that is his England career over.

He got lucky. The draw and route to the semifinals was kind to him and the minute England came up against any sort of quality they were undone.
Put who you like in charge and deploy whatever systems/tactics you like, the reality is that England will always fall short in terms of quality. Over the years there have been “quality” players around but the club bias/rivalry has got in the way when it comes to England being a unit aswell.

Same as me. I look back and think what a lunatic I used to be, always getting involved in fights at games in the 70's and 80's. It was a case of fight or flight !
Fair play to you though you came through it unscathed and not like me had to go to prison a few times before I saw sense.

Im really not sure why Southgate was trying to play it from the back when it was clear from the first 5 mins. everyone was being man marked.

Like other have said Kane once again killed the game. The whole style of play changed. He drops far too deep. When we needed to stretch the field due to the marking

Southgate like many Cov managers isn't the best with substitutions.

His mistake last night was going with players like Kane over young, fresh players. All of his subs killed any attacking momentum we had.

Does that really count as an actual semi final? World Cup yes.

Schoolboy errors - something we have seen at the Ricoh - dreadful - seemed like a reserve team - we either want to win or not - should have played the best team - Stones wouldn’t make the Sky Blues team

For me it feels on a par with the confederations cup or that world club thing Liverpool will play in now, it's a proper competitive tournament and all that but while it'd be nice to win I'm not really that arsed we lost. The big appeal of it is how it affects the Euro qualifiers.

I don't get this. As you're someone who used to be involved but have since grown up, then why deny others the opportunity to run free and let off steam? They will grow up too. Vandalism is bad sure, but lots reacting to authority in such a sanitised world, having a drink and fighting with like minded people. I'm not saying it's right, I've never done it, but it doesn't bother me either. The police are often heavy handed from what I've seen and I'd wager many of them enjoy it too. All this self righteous super-England fan stuff is pointless imo.

As for taking your kids, it's no different to watching City away. Often there is trouble if you're looking for it, but it's equally easy to avoid and I've not heard of a single incident even in the sensationalised headlines where families have been caught up in anything. Half those moaning would probably join in the chanting if they were in among it and had a few beers. Some of it could be labelled xenophobic, some probably going too far, but as long as it doesn't overstep the mark into racism or vile hatred, then I think it's all a bit of a fuss over nothing.

Compare the anger and look of that woman shouting 'Nazi scum' at a Trump supporter, who many of you moaning here probably agree with - and that was in England, nothing to do with football but a lot less made of it nationally as it doesn't hit the same rhetoric. I'm sure she regrets her actions and many of the football lads will too, but sun, alcohol, heat of the moment, I woudln't judge them too harshly.

All of his subs? I thought Henderson for Delph improved these dramatically, as Delph didn't even seen capable of even getting the ball under control.

Maguire, Walker, Stones and Delph were all dreadful.

Southgate should have used this as an opportunity to play Phil Foden, whose touch is excellent.

Foden and Delph are both at the same club, but Foden is already head of Delph in the pecking order. I know they are not quite the same type of player, but still.

Shame Loftus-Cheek was injured, because he would have surely been ahead of Delph too. (No, that is not a sequel).

It was suggested by a few last night that this is probably harder to win than the Euros. To win it we would’ve played both Spain and Croatia home and away, Netherlands at a neutral venue and Portugal away. Same goes for Netherlands as they’ve had to play both Germany and France home and away, us at a Neutral venue and Portugal away. Both of those are harder than any other tournament fixture lists.
