Ellis simms (50 Viewers)

I wonder if it's worth trying to convert him into a centre half. We all know we need another and others like Dion have shown it's possible before. I remember Clough saying something like any CF could easily play there. Simms has the height and occasionally shows pace and strength. Would be just as much of a threat from set pieces.

Don't shout me down, only a suggestion (runs to get tin hat) :)

You mean the lad who can't time a header and doesn't like to use his size?

There was people that took a dislike to him pretty early on for some reason.

The guy had a 19 goal season for us the season before last so clearly can score. It's down to the manager and coaches to get the best from him.
Not me, backed him for absolutely ages. I'm not sure why people are so tetchy about fans forming an opinion on a player over a long period of time. There's only so many times you can watch someone play totally awful before you just have to accept it for what it is.
He should be moved on and we should be looking to improve on him as soon as it is possible to do so.

Thought he made some good runs off the ball when he came on, and his raw physicality does give teams something to think about. He still should have done better even today when he came on, but if Ellis Simms is our first option off the bench then we are in a very good situation in terms of strikers.

Yes he did, but on one occasion he was played through and run into the penalty area but lost control of the ball, if he had kept the ball at his feet he probably would have scored and that's his problem.

As for it being down to the manager and coaches. I'm not sure what to say, total hogwash. Simms always seems to have a get out with some on here.
You might have a point if players were showing no improvement under Lampard but honestly I'm struggling to think of any more that haven't at least stayed the same. Many have improved beyond all recognition.
Simms has to want it and I'm not sure he does.

I wouldn't trust his first touch as a CB

No one took an early dislike to him at all, that's complete hyperbole.

The fact is that people who watch and assess a player on his merits could see he couldn't jump, or control a ball, or head a ball or use his strength to his advantage.

He's a pretty poor player who had a good half a season and that's him done
Much like Mark Mcnulty.

Some people did but that's not really the point as people do that for everyone including Haji 'Shite'. We have people who write players off before they've even signed and it fucks me right off.
But Simms has been here ages now, people see what they see and most now agree he's not very good, including Lampard I think.

People were posting donkey pictures after a couple of weeks! And the same for Haji, with some vile language chucked in too 🤷‍♂️ 😡
Don't underestimate how quickly people can jump on players, or how bad the misjudgements can be.

A lot of people didn't like Rudoni to start with, basically because he wasn't O'Hare I think, which is absolutely laughable now. Another level entirely to O'Hare.

Further to this point, I've just seen in City Unseen, Lampard talking about BTA coming back to pre season in great shape and putting in everything to improve his standards. At some point the player has to take personal responsibility. Good for BTA.

The Donkey pictures didn't start until he'd been playing for a few weeks, it was obvious to some (myself included) that he was a poor player by then.

I got pelters on here when he went on his (all too brief) scoring run, but I always maintained that he was a very poor player, and I stand by that assessment.

Haji started poorly, but was always a level above Simms. He took time to settle and adjust, but that's usual for a foreign player coming to the English leagues. Yes he got some stick, and occasionally still does when he goes into his shell and cant be arsed. (Playoffs vs Sunderland for eg) but he will always be better than Simms.

Simms is third choice now, behind Wright and BTA, hes only ahead of Bassette because Frank has obviously frozen him out, and I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up behind Obikwu by the end of the season.

Simms needs to move on for his own good, and im sure we'd be willing to take a loss on him to move him on, but unfortunately, no one seems to be interested in him ..... I wonder why?

He's got some of the attributes, but I'm not sure about his defensive positioning, which in fairness takes time and experience to learn, and his aggression, which perhaps isn't an obvious trait...

@Calista

As I said, no one was on Simm's back when he came here, he had a chance to be a fans favourite, but (again) as I said it only took a few weeks for people to realise how poor he was (he couldn't even trap a ball ffs, and still cant)

Ive no idea what your trying to prove by reposting my comments, but they make perfect sense to me.

Sadly Ellis isn't working out at all in this system. Seems to be a genuine likeable guy but just doesn't appear to be good enough. Hope he gets a move and we get a reasonable fee
