Sunderland and Ipswich involved cause they'll do well through ifollow which will fill some of the gap they're going to have refunding home tickets sold
Factoring that in, how many of our fans would be OK with not wanting any of the ST money back if there were no more games played? I would punt most would be happy to not burden the club with that headache.

I can't imagine weighted PPG has ever been mentioned by the EFL, didn't it only come about when Prem teams kicked up a fuss about having more home games left than away?

I've never really understood the weighted average, just because you've beaten Bolton, Tranmere and Southend at home doesn't mean you'll then go on to beat City Rotherham and Oxford if they were your remaining home games. To add genuine "weight" you'd have to include lots of factors such as form, strength of opponent faced/to face etc.

I dont understand PPG at all, it always comes back to you are just guessing the future! May as well pick numbers out of a hat as to how many points you end up with. I really dont get it and dont think its the right way to go at all... I don't know the right answer but i dont think there is one!

but, we're the champions so i'm happy to let it slide on this occasion!

It would only take a very small sneeze to finish the season. Why go through the hassle of employing ‘Wheezy and Sneezy’ (Former hospital porters) at Ryton. Just end the season now.

Playoffs should be played. It is wrong to promote a 3rd placed team. A mini tournament played at a neutral venue would lesson the health risk, so makes sense. 8 instead of 6? We need to look closely at the current table to draw conclusion. There is just one point separating 3rd and 8th. Oxford though would have a case for saying they would have been 2nd not Rotherham, with another game played. Rotherham's form over their last 5 games played is shockingly bad tbf. Sunderland are out of it, playing 36 games already. Posh and Wycombe have a case for being in there. Posh have the best goal difference than anyone, which suggest they are a better team than Wycombe. Weighted PPG looks less fair than just PPG. I think its a strong case that both Wycombe and Posh are in the playoffs. I think Rotherham should be in the playoffs with them. They are by no way safe in 2nd place. Oxford won their last five games and looked set to replace Rotherham. CCFC are far ahead in 1st with a game in hand, so no dispute there. If we are looking for sporting integrity the playoffs for League 1 should be:

Rotherham
Oxford
Portsmouth
Fleetwood
Peterborough
Wycombe
Yeah but apart from Ipswitch, Oxford's great run of wins was against teams in the bottom half of the table. Their previous 7 league games only saw them win once.

Rotherham United chairman Tony Stewart speaks out as League One clubs fail to agree
By Paul Davis | 15/05/2020

Tony Stewart

ROTHERHAM United chairman Tony Stewart pointed the finger at the 'Magic Six' as he revealed a split between clubs had prevented a vote to end the League One campaign early because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Third-tier sides met this morning via a conference to try to thrash out a solution but were unable to reach an agreement and a follow-up meeting is planned for Monday.

Most clubs are believed to favour calling off the campaign now because of the financial impact of taking their players out of furlough, introducing Covid-19 testing and playing behind-closed-doors matches which would generate little income.

There would then be a vote on whether the current top two - Coventry City and the Millers - should be awarded promotion on a points-per-game basis.

But Peterborough United, Oxford United, Portsmouth, Fleetwood Town, Sunderland and Ipswich Town - the teams generally just behind the top two in the league standings - are adamant the season should be played to its conclusion.

"I don't think there were sticking points," Stewart said this afternoon. "I think what happened was Rick Parry (EFL chairman) decided to open it to whoever and the magic six, and I am sure you know who they are, are thinking that they could have got to higher heights.

"Then there was a split with the lower clubs saying they couldn't throw money at things.

"There was a split but I do believe if it went to a vote it would be for a cancellation.

"I am going to have a word with Rick Parry, because the testing, everything that goes before you kick a ball, all that comes into play.

"Here we are we another meeting that is going to kick on to Monday and Tuesday. I am like most chairman. I am frustrated by the indecision.

"We need a decision on whether we fulfil the fixtures. The other option is the best option."

League Two clubs today voted to call off their season and have automatic promotion and play-offs but no relegation.

Stewart, whose team had played 35 of their 44 fixtures before the league programme was suspended, added: "I wish we could be as decisive as that. It is ridiculous. I believe there are two options now: one is to fulfil the fixtures totally and the other is the top two will go up, three will go down and the next four from the top will be in the play-offs."

MORE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

Attempting to finish the season:

"There are anomolies with regards to the 'no tackles' issue and contact. If we do return, it means we've played 35 games in one type of game and the next nine in another type of game. That's not taking into account that along the way someone could get the virus and the impact of that. There's the travelling. You can't get a hotel. There are lots of things that seem to be an obstacle. I can't see us overcoming the obstacles that are there. It is quite frustrating."

Next meeting:

"They have allowed us to ponder the meeting today. I am hoping it is Monday. We were told there was going to be a decision by this Wednesday, then it was going to be Friday and now we have got the weekend. We are running out of time."

Frustration:

"Meeting after meeting. I just don't feel as if we are moving forward. We seem to be talking about the same thing. If I was to assume anything I would assume the problem lies with the Premier League. Without money coming from them or the Government, I can't see some teams getting to Christmas."

Speaking to Parry:

"Because we are in the second position, I have not been vocal. I need to try to get some persuasion into a decision being made so we know what we are doing. League Two havemade their decision, not only the decision not to play but also the decision on where teams are sitting next season. They have got all the time now until August or whenever to prepare."

Covid-19 testing for players and staff:

"The comment in the week would be that the EFL would pay and then we got an email saying 'This is the cost' and that it would be borne by each club. That is in the clouds at the moment. Chairman like me are laughing at it. We have been starved of cash. We have not earned a bean in the last seven or eight weeks. We are not selling season tickets and sponsors aren't jumping out of the water. Everything is on hold but expenses and costs are still there."

the 'magic six'. Haha!

Just stepping back from this a bit, fans need to understand that sport always produces winners and losers. Without winners and losers it ceases to be sport.
Everyone, if they are capable of putting aside club loyalty, know the outcome should be fair. We know that luck plays a part too, but here's the clincher:
There's a difference between unlucky and unfair. If a bird shits on your head but not mine, that's unlucky but it's not unfair.
Some clubs will miss out, that's unlucky but it's not unfair - provided the formula chosen is carefully calibrated.
PUSB
By that rationale wouldn’t the fairest thing be to scrap the whole season - null and void it - and pretend it never happened?

I have never really been a fan of play offs, exciting yes but a team that did considerably worse over a season can get promoted. All this fuss over play off's people forget for years it was the top three. Play offs are there to generate income nothing else
I like the playoffs, not only does it give you the best way of going up it keeps the season competitive. Without them the season will be over in January for half the teams and fans would give up. Last season we were never realistically going to make the playoffs but hitting a bit of form and not being too far behind added the excitement. If our only hope was 3rd nobody would give a shit.

It does take the shine of it tho mate and will always be remembered as “that season” Shame we won’t get to see Liam Kelly lift it infront of the fans

It does take the shine off it that’s true. Also gives Sunderland another stick to beat us with for the next 40 odd yrs. I can’t fucking wait!!!
Gives us that trophy now, 3 defeats all season whilst playing every game away from home?
That is Championship winning form & all the other league 1 clubs know it, if they were honest with themselves.

This won’t be popular but if it does come down to play-offs ‘the Ricoh would be in a good
Position to lay a claim to hosting them.
Logistically central for all the clubs involved, close proximity to and easy access from the
extensive Motorway network, Stadium and hotel under one roof, I know hotels are currently
Closed but if it’s being played over a period of days ‘I’m sure permission would be granted
for all the players staff and officials to stay there for the duration.
Pitch might be a turn-off though.

Rugby union has just rejected it because the pitch can’t handle a few games. Football will go nowhere near it.

Couldn’t respond under your message. You were saying we weren’t good enough for automatic.

I don’t think that’s too bad. Oxford won 9 games in a row and still couldn’t catch us. We met have a defeat or two (we lost most of our games early on. We can score goals and won 3-1 at Oxford when they were on another good run.
The two best teams are at the top no doubt about that.
