I don't think it is, to be honest. Addiction is incredibly powerful but many people don't take responsibility for their actions/understand it's down to them to change their behaviour.

The issue is Pete believes people can be cured.

Child abusers like all people who are addicted to unnatural urges are manipulative and want to find a way to carry on with their desires. There will be zero accountability. Even if you can get 10% not to relapse 90% will and all it does is make these people better at covering the way they operate

With help and support I agree

You will still be end up with 9 out of 10 abusers eager and ready again to abuse again which is why they must remain incarcerated for ever or put down

I prefer rehabilitated rather than cured and actually with attraction and addiction I completely accept that the urges won’t go away
I am far more interested in people understanding that, owning what they’ve done, understanding why they did it, the impact on the victims and them to work out what they can do to not reoffend
I believe that’s possible for many people involved in addictive behaviour.

Well that’s not what we do
It’s also not what the evidence says in other similar countries or even our country for many offences

They just don’t get caught doing it again. Fuck me you are out of your depth

The nativity is astonishing.

I prefer doing what we can to stop people offending to be honest but I’ll challenge what I can to ensure we don’t leave our communities and institutions more at risk than less

Way over 99% of those convicted will be released so why not do something to make their chance of offending less

What’s the percentage of people being raped even reporting it?

Youre saying you’re the expert rather than those that work in the area
Ok

it’s like nicks answer about being friends with violent mates
Instead of saying no he made excuses for their behaviour

Give me evidence that shows you can’t rehabilitate offenders especially those convicted of a sexual offence

Woah
I’m not arguing with you
One of my biggest issues has been diets and I think it’s a very similar issue

Slipping up and having a takeaway is again very different to sexually assaulting a child.

I'm not sure why you keep trying to play it down.

Look at that man in Gregg's, bet he has a wank and is eating a sausage roll. Must be the next Ian Huntley.

What you're getting at, maybe not meaning to is to normalise noncing. Wasn't there a thing set up back in the day?

I've said I've got a mate who was arrested for a scrap outside a night club years ago and it's not comparable to somebody who harms kids, who I know would have backs turned on them, if not a slap.

I found it interesting that you would make excuses for their violent behaviour that’s all
You need to get your mind sexual offences

Where did I say that?

Pete, with all due to respect. The game you're playing to try and "gotcha" doesn't work. Normal people aren't friends with convicted / proven nonces.

You keep trying to spin it like it's a bloke who had a drunken fight. It's fucking weird.

I’m absolutely not and I think you’re being mightily defensive

I'm not the one trying to play down people assaulting children and saying it's ok to be mates with them.

How do you really not see what you're writing? Then you have pathetic, childish responses like this.

Hmmm, Id imagine it was more a throw away comment. Doubt they could ever do something like that in power

The bigger issue here is WTF was the society doing not only banning Reform but then that embarrassing public announcement about it. Just virtue signalling bollocks

I’m no fan of reform and worry about them winning the next election but it’s stuff like this that is likely to only increase their support. They’ve shown at council level they can’t deliver and I would imagine would struggle in a debate about what they’ve got to offer so have them along and debate them!

Definitely invite them now and get them to explain why they'd cut the funding.

Think the most optimistic prediction on here was he'd last until the end of the month so still got a while to go.
I thought they'd keep him in place until May as well, so he has to carry the can for the inevitable LE bloodbath. Gives the party a reason for getting rid of him in terms of policy/delivery and giving someone else a relatively blank slate.
