I'm sure Grendel is furious given that he was talking about the inflationary effect of wage increases.

Smacks of another group of people that have spent little or no time actually teaching.. just theorising about it. To be fair it’s not exclusive to Blair… too many grifters in this sector too.

Coventry councillor apologises after using 'appalling' racial slur

The Labour councillor claimed she was unaware it was offensive after messages were leaked
www.coventrytelegraph.net

State of this one!! Surely no room to criticise anyone

Yes, get that. Never heard it before though.

A new one on me too, but in context it appears that she knew what she was saying and the apology a little hollow.

I think it's a term that's OK if it's used by a Jewish person.
I've heard it but didn't realise it can be offensive, but if in doubt, don't say it.

All rings so true.

It's so striking that the BBC just never points out the negative impacts of Brexit even when the links are so obvious. In the review of the papers programme on BBC news there is always a look of panic on the presenters' face whenever one of the guests points out the damage Brexit has caused.

The points she makes about the ridiculous way in which they try to prove they are not biased are so true. Having to have a lunatic view to balance someone who represents the views of the majority of experts isn't balance. Question time is unwatchable now because of this.

Also notable that any in depth and intelligent programmes like Dateline London that challenge the populist views are being closed down.

Only in this sort of environment could people like Johnson and Truss become Prime Minister.

Yeah but she bullied pregnant wife beating Rod Liddle over his pro brexit rantings that he wrote from his home in the USA.

Clearly its all about perception.

Plenty of polls and independent reviews and fact checks show the BBC to be about as fair as possible.
Fairly equal split in those that view it as left leaning, right leaning, liberal and conservative/traditional in its coverage.
As long as those doing the wokey-cokey thinks it's a tory mouthpiece and all the gammon heads think it's a commie lgbt establishment...its doing a good job.

....and speaking of jobs....oh look...Emily's got a new one!

They do - I was involved in one of them! Although I haven't checked recent research to see if that still applies.

Where she's definitely right is in the imbalanced balance, where you have to get the counter-view on for a response, regardless of whether the counter-view is a ridiculous loonish minority. There's a difference between fairly showing two sides of a Brexit debate, say (and even then her economic example is fair as to when two sides can be disengenuous), and two sides of something where consensus is almost entirely in one side, and the opposing view is a distinct rump of nothing.

When people criticise the press, especially true of a lot of current cabinet members who are using the old witch-hunt analogy when it comes to Boris. Someone pointed out recently what Tommy Docherty sometimes said in jest about being sacked as manager by Manchester United. The press got me the sack because they kept printing the results.

They're all using the Trump playbook now.

Ride roughshod over law and common decency then act the injured party when called out on it, claiming witchhunts and bias. For some reason there always seems to be enough people willing to lap it up.

I don’t think too much will change. Stupid idea, public outcry, u turn, lie, lie some more making sure that there’s a flag in the background, avoid difficult questions by going missing, we got brexit done, vaccine rollout. Just with a less convincing liar who won’t carry the same sway as Boris. I say less convincing, anyone with half a brain cell could see through the lies, I guess I mean without a liar who’s capable of lying with such a conviction that it’s the truth.

I was reading something the other day that £75B was paid out in dividends (don’t recall if it was one specific water provider or the entire sector) only £5B was invested in infrastructure since privatisation. That on its own is an argument for public ownership. Think of the investment that could be made in cleaning up rivers, lakes and beaches.
